Such a great shot with the sky tree in the back ground! Seems like a cool idea if it had different things. I think Kyde had the right idea with improving the store.
Thanks guys. I’ve enjoyed this way more than I thought I would. Especially that i felt was there with you trying to figure this out. As always, you make enjoyable yet laced back videos 👍🏻
That cart limitation reminds me of the launch of Shell Petrol Station POS system (currently in use Globally on all Company own site) back in 2010. One of the branch I was working on was part of the pilot launch and the Point of sale (POS) use to get stuck after scanning 12 items! Some programmer thought "no one buys more then 12 items at a petrol station" and "desk jockeys" at Shell HQ didn't bother checking with the branches. Took them another 6 months to sort that mess out on an application at that time was ready for launch globally to replace the old POS and back office systems.
Not the most exciting Kyde and Eric video but I got nothing going on, so I watched it all til the end. Come on, you spent the first 25min deciding what drink and snacks to buy.

There needs to be a better way for the bot to know what it has for it to be 100% convenient. Super fun though, I remember having that 'the future is now' feeling when I first used it :D

@@kydeanderic haha that's a little better, but I think I'd still feel safer in the MOPU Room since there's no real chance of anyone coming over. Unless of course you fail the age camera thing, I guess xD
I think the only way that those machines could succeed especially with being attached to a convenience store is to do something like what Kyde had said. Basically focusing on more grocery style items and quick essentials. For example things like bread, rice, simple toiletries and meds. Because right now why would you go through the trouble of putting another app on your phone when you could just go right to that main store? Also side note Japan’s actually pretty on with the trend of oat milk it’s only just started to show up on shelves here in the US within 2020 and the cafe I work in only just now added it to the menu for drinks same with the Starbucks in town too.
@@kydeanderic Or maybe go down to Borough Market and chose something from whichever country you like. Alas, no Kaide and Eric choose to eat from vending machines. Sorry about Covid. Hope you can make it back on a long holiday visa one day!
I somehow imagine they just placed multiple normal vending machines behind that wall and a poor little robot just goes around feeding them with coins, then delivering everything to the front. As for the alcohol, if that not-so-multi MOPU is open 24/7, I doubt a real person will have to stay awake through the night just to check customers through the cam. Maybe the age verification already happened with the credit card, because only adults usually have one? I hope adding the e-sheep doesn't require age verification.
Australia is very backward when it comes to shopping experiences. We introduced self checkout years ago and there has been very limited testing of mobile apps to scan products on our phone and self checkout. Shops are introducing click and collect however that relies on a germ bag picking up your goods and delivering them to your car. So if you want to avoid covid germ backs here in Australia then you are out of luck.
Our local store does business customers to scan your goods with a phone and pay. We use this service which is awesome however it has not been widely adopted.
Both your criticisms seem on point and positive. It is shocking that they don't accept SUICA/Passmo. Do they take Apple Pay? Even when you are extemporaneously riffing the videos are fun to watch (and always with good information)!
Hmmmm ok…. Well the ability to pick up that’s essentially “contact free”… is a new thing with covid here in Canada so I see the benefit to it… BUT if the selection is very limited and you need to go in the store to get the rest of what you want then it kinda defeats the purpose. This would make total sense if everything in the store was available to pre order on the app. A delivery option for the store would be cool, saving you actually going to the store. This is becoming a big thing here with many stores delivering via apps like “skip the dishes” and “Instacart” and such… Interesting Edit to add: 6 items max is kinda a bummer… and again defeats the purpose of the whole thing 🤷♀️ Wow also the 3rd party pay thing… just annoying!
I suspect the camera links to a remote place which is manned and a real person will check you look to be old enough for alcohol. I also suspect this is not a 24 hr thing so if you try to buy that whiskey for ¥1000 at 3am it would not be on the menu. Give it a try :) Greetings from England.
Maybe it was doing face recognition to buy the alcoholic drink. Interesting set up. My guess is that you guys were on camera as it is a test only a test for which you paid hard earned $$ 😉
