- coloradobluesda... Video by Noah Nethero / nynoah proprietor of Tuesday Blues in Denver. This is a little video that I shot to advertise a month long progressive lesson series taught by Ben Collins and Jessica Miltenberger. This was not choreographed or rehearsed. In fact I gave them only a few min warning and said go. This is what came out. Don't they dance beautiful together? We are lucky that Denver has such talented and wonderful dancers . Not to mention, our scene is vibrant and ever growing; with more rockstars of the future starting to dance today.

Equipment used: not much, I used a canon S100 and I have practiced to walk dead level. So the reason for no shake is my ninja walk, some zoom (very little) and RUclips has a new feature that smooths out video. But if your video is not next to perfect in smoothness already, that filter feature will not work. I want to get a steadicam of some sort and take even more videos. Which is right up there with my dream to get the new Canon 5d MarkIII.
Year after year I search this video again and again and sill its the most beautiful dance act I have ever seen!
This is easily my favorite blues dance video. I love how it so beautifully communicates the intimacy of the style without objectifying either party. Mmm, so lovely.
There's a realm that occurs here where an allegiance to the music offers more wonder than any power gained from a mandate to a social construct.
This is one of the most gorgeous things I have ever seen.
Well, I bookmarked this a few years ago for a Dance playlist. No good if you don't play the list, right? This makes me proud to be part of the human race.
I miss this so much. The dancing, the Merc, friends, all of this. Makes me wish I was back here on Tuesdays.
A person who gives up freedom for security will lose both in the end.
A friend of mine invited me to a blues workshop. I didn't know what to expect, but as soon as the basics went out of the way...All the styles I've had experience with, bachata, salsa, tango, cha-cha-cha, it all sort of came together in one coherent whole, accompanied by my favorite music. I had the time of my life.
They move so well together, that was just perfect!!!!
I can't watch this enough! Such a beautiful dance.
I'm very much in love with blues dancing right now. The two teachers in this video just make it look so beautiful, smooth, and gentle. I don't think I've ever loved a dance more, ugh take me now
I love this reminds me as a kid my aunt & uncle dancing❤
This is my go-to "what the hell do you do every friday night?!" video.
My waist is sore from practicing my contra-body walks after watching this.
Gorgeous! (The dance, not my contra-body)
That was so satisfying to watch! I'd love to see them in person! Bravo!!!
so light and natural. beautiful :)
I absolutely loved this! Blues has such passion and is so much fun to dance and watch. Great job!
Besides all the obvious things - technique, lead/follow, musicality - the 2 things I love are Jessica's spins and all the lovely soft triples
Went blues dancing for the first time this weekend and really liked it ^.^
Perfect! Silky smooth, sweet and elegant. Wonderful video.
Glen Crytzer with Mischiya Lake "New Years Blues" from Album Harlem Mad; one of my favorite new Blues songs!
Whats amazing is how much shit I got for Djing slow sexy stuff like this on Tuesdays nights about 15 years ago at the Merc. Everybody was like "Squirl nut zippers!!!" We stole a blues basic from Herrang in 2000 and started teaching it in Denver and there were about 10 people who could kind of do it. Now look! Awesome! Good work y'all. Amazing how good music will keep people dancing till dawn.
Great! To me, as a blues dancer, there are so many things to keep in mind!
Beautiful blues dancers. Holy crap. We should have them teach in Aus. Connection was amazing and they click so well together. Makes my heart melt and also makes me want to go Blues dancing :P
I've been blues dancing for a while, this reminded me how much I need to work on my musicality. Inspiring! :)
wow.. brother. exelent..! exelent.
...so beautiful to watch, flawless. And I loved the slow glide of the camera, it feels like you are right there on the floor with the dancers.
Cheers!
Magnifique!!
Pour moi, c'est ça la danse!!
Bravo!!!
Gorgeous. Now I just have to convince my significant other to do this with me :)
Wow, lovely and hard to believe it's unrehearsed but I'm totally new to blues dancing.
Very nice. I wanna dance the blues.
Music, dancers and camera amazing!
loved dancing at the mercury cafe when I was going to CSU.
It's easier than you think. Just keep on working on leading with your core and connection between two people. The possibilities are endless. There is a great article on the concept of PTED, which is about connection principles. Do an internet search for "joeandnelle" They have some great videos on drag blues too.
Wonderful dancing, wonderful camera work. Loved watching it.
Thank you so much. Really the dancing by Jes and Ben is just so magical.
Love love both of YOU!
moonlight of spirituality and spirituality of moonlight..smooth and silvery..
My goodness... This is AMAZING.
WANT TO DANCE WITH THIS GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sublime, único.... jazz, blues, son ritmos sensuales, con sabor, textura, color. Sobrados!
Love this. Love dancing.
impressed with camera work.
Thank you :)
Ninja, indeed! Well done, Noah.
I'm totally in love with this video! It's fantastic, so gentle, so beautiful! I watch it again and again and it inspires me so much! I wish my blues dancing (and especially connection with the partner) was as good as Ben and Jessica's one day.
By the way, what is the name of the song playing?

Ezekiel Schloss Wow, thank you so much!!
Ezekiel Schloss interesting. It reminds me a lot of summer time.
iv watched this 3 three times now. im surprised there arent more comments.
I love everything about this! Good job :)
Wow! Hats off to both of you! :))
Ben and Jessica, more videos please! You two are amazing! Just a couple more songs?
so beautiful... thank you for sharing...
I love this!
Dude if that wasn't hot I don't know what is! Bravo!!!
Beautiful! Me gusta mucho!
Daimn, apart from the ugly sneakers, this was bloody brilliant!
In Bens defense of his shoes. He does own dance shoes and put them on after the video. There was no pre-planning to this video at all. He was just practicing and goofing around with Jes before a class they were teaching together. I asked to shoot a video short I could use for promotion to get people dancing. It was supposed to be 1 min long. It was so magical I just kept on shooting to the end.
Bendito seja o blues...
really nice. thanks for sharing this.
vous dansez trop bien ! ou peut-on apprendre à danser de cette façon ?
Ben Collins, you're a good dancer but... what are THOSE!?!
Jesse Funnell Are you referring to his shoes? In Bens defense. I gave him NO warning at all when we shot this video. He was practicing for a lesson and I said hey... lets tape you two dancing. The magic was just their dancing with no forethought. I am so thankful to have been able to capture it, street shoes and all.
Haha yeah I know. His shoes just look a little worn down. I don't want to hate on him.
+Jesse Funnell Dancing is not in the shoes
+Jesse Funnell
Oddly enough, the fact that they were so worn down made them dance pretty well. That said, while the dancing is not in the shoes I cannot stress enough the importance of good footwear for protecting your knees.... and also Noah isn't kidding we literally had a moments notice, I'm always glad to remember that it turned out as well as it did!
@@CollinsBenjaminJ Benjamin, hello!
Is there a way I can contact you about the blues dance classes? Tried to reach you on facebook.
Its great fun too. Welcome to the community.
started to watch and fell to thinking.
wow that was amazing :)
Name of song is always nice.
Fantastic. Simply put, fantastic.
I am so very eager to start dancing again. (Ex-Lindyhopper.)
This is whats referred to "Blues dancing" right?
Luka Jovanovic I would say yes, but it also has some drag blues influence.
+Luka Jovanovic (DynamoKid)
(Late to the party...) Thanks!
Short answer, "Yes" to "Kinda/Depends"
Long Answer:
Highly dependent on your view of what "Blues Dancing" is. This is probably best described as a modern interpretation of Classical Drag Blues and Ballroomin' with elements of lyrical Jazz and several other ingredients for flavor. Just like Swing, Blues is a family of dance styles and music with a wide variety of possibilities. The movement shown here is mostly just what comes out of Jessica and I moving together and is not really intended to represent more than just our style.
No! Once a Lindy Hopper, always a Lindy Hopper
This song...where can I get it? It sounds like Amy Winehouse, but I can't find it.
omgggggggggggg! siiiiickkk! wwooooow!
I see moves from Tango, and the music sounds 2/4 as well. Am I right?
nice!
oops...never mind, I see it is Meschiya Lake...awesome song
I've been looking for things to shoot with my new Nikon D800 (5DIII eqiv) and steadicam. Let me know if there's ever something I can stop by for! Thanks!
I think I need to do this. I’m only 15 though so I probably can’t go to clubs or bars. Lessons are too $$$ for me. I’m also kinda tall and have dyspraxia, it’s mild but it messes with my coordination a bit. Still I want to try it
Though (private) lessons are for sure one of the fastest ways to learn most dances have a group lesson before that is ~$5-10 and will get you a solid foundation. (This video was actually a promo for the lesson series Jessica and I were teaching that month) After that, the best training is time on the floor. Be brave and have patience and I am sure you can enjoy dancing too. Best of luck!
Muy bonita de dinde son amiga, atte lucy una amiga.
a dream

The thoughts expressed in these comments are the reasons many people get turned away from blues dancing.
You mean the repeated appreciation of the beauty of both the dancing and the camera work?
How do you call the very last little jump at the end? I whould love to learn how to lead it. Please help !! :)
Which one?
What song is playing?
megansyl1 It's called "New Year Blues" by Glenn Cryzter and His Syncopators, with Meschiya Lake on vocals. They're one of the best swing bands operating today.
I used a canon S100 which is a really light camera that takes great video and images. I also walk like a ninja. But I am going to invest into a steadicam... quick someone get me one. :D
What's the name of this song? Pleaseeeee!
Men, WHY THESE SHOES !? but incredible video.
And so why can't I find blues/tango in Dallas?
Don't know about Dallas but I'm pretty sure Austin and maybe Tulsa have some. Good hunting!
Bóg stworzył bluesa. I dopiero wtedy kobietę.
lovely dancing but would like to see the lead changed at some point... that would make it real dance!!
Jessica and I often swapped roles in the formal sense even though we didnt strictly do it in this video. In a call and response style and in my own (and I think Jessica's too though she is more than capable of speaking for herself) theory of "leading" the "follower" has as much control over the content of the dance as the lead does, possibly more. I am a huge proponent of learning and dancing both roles but I must disagree that "real" dancing requires a change in roles.
привет
Like y subscrto.
That was too sexy. I bet this is illegal in North Korea.
Haha, perhaps predictably then the style went over big in S. Korea. ruclips.net/video/e_B_R05o21I/видео.html
Make a man blush :)
