I remember talking to chris in 04 and he was excited for what he described as the bands biggest paycheck.. It was to play chasing safety and a 16yr old girls bday party for $10,000
I talked to Aaron in 04 as well, we were talking about halo 1, and how I could whip his ass. I tried to talk him into allow me to go on the bus And play him 😂
Disambiguation grew on me over the years, it’s probably my second favorite now. Knowing the whole background now, you can definitely hear what was happening in the band.
Love this record also, did you hear the two new songs they did for the anthology record in 2013? Same line up. I love those songs too. Wish they played them live.
Man IMO define the great line felt the most natural out of all the albums.. Up until the new one you guys just dropped. I'm so seriously glad that Aaron and Spencer can do the bro thing and push past their own separate issues as well as whatever issues that they may have had with each other creatively, and still have the vibe, the fucking punch and presence to bring the whole show down in a quick 30 min set even now like they never missed beat. These guys are vastly responsible for my taste in music being as refined and unique. I love how transparent and up front these dudes can be and I have always been a straight hair, lip ring,Chiodos band tee, checkered black on white Vans diehard screamo kid at heart. We appreciate you.
it's better when you think you've heard anything and then you get a Lost In The Sound Of Separation -style album and it speaks to where you are in life and on top of that or better than that, the songs are actually everything you've loved about the band in a modern or advanced -sense, I guess speaking to the "where you are in life" point (when you started out along the lines referenced in the video, The Used and My Chemical Romance).

Underoath has been my favorite band since I was in 5th grade and still continues to be. Listening to this and their album run-throughs brings back great memories I’ve had with this music I still listen to today
I will always admire how open Underoath have always been about their struggles, their beliefs, their feelings and their opinions on their music, each other and the band over the years.
I’ve been an Underøath fan since I was 11 years old- I’m now 22 (I’ll be 23 in a month). Lol this band has been my favorite band for almost 12 years and I love it
I was at one of those Changing of Times tour and definitely saw them on Warped on '02 with Dallas. After he left, they toured with a vocalist named Matt from a band called Winter Solstice.
The dallas era was my favorite underoath. Acts of depression slaps to this day . Also dallas went to be in maylene and the sons of disaster. Spencer came from a band called this runs through
Me siento orgullo de haber encontrado esta banda de manera accidental y no por la influencia de alguien más. Fue desde el 2007 y siempre estaré agradecido de haberme acompañado en buenos años de juventud. 🤘🏻🤘🏻 greetings from Chile 🇨🇱
Lost in the Sound is my absolute favorite CD of all time, Thank you so much for giving us some insight into it's creation. It sounds that the issues and different ideas you guys had at the time really made it such a unique master piece of music. Thank you!
"Lost" is definitely my personal favorite of theirs, because it was such a struggle for them it's remained one of my go to albums when I'm having a hard time, just makes it that much easier for me. Fuck I just realized it's been 3yrs since Erase Me came out, here's hoping we can get a new record soon 🤞🤞🤞
The Old UnderOath trilogy: Act of Depression Cries of the Past The Changing of Times The Middle UnderOath trilogy: They’re Only Chasing Safety Define the Great Line Lost in the Sound of Separation The Modern UnderOath trilogy: Disambiguation Erase Me Voyeurist
I’ve loved UØ since the first time I heard Act of Depression and Cries of the Past. But the first time I heard Disambiguation I thought they hit another level. It still is consistent on my listening rotation.
I was first introduced to underoathe in the mid 90's by my friend Eric Gouge. I saw underoath play live several times. Dallas was the vocalist and Aaron was really young, but an amazing drummer. Back then it was one guitar and one bass. I remember that the guitarist had a unique beard. This was at the refuge in Tampa if my memory serves me right.
I loved telling ppl at shows and scene parties back in late 04 and in 05, that i got to see underoath at the 2004 warped tour. Underoath was pretty popular in the metalcore/scene days. Least here in utah and slc, they were.
49:56 - Why we've stayed with you for all these years? Well it's simple. First and foremost, you're all amazing individuals and we will always support you because of it. Secondly, your music is out of this world. There's no competition! Take care, stay safe, and keep being awesome! Love from Sweden 😃
I know this video is old, but I remember seeing Underoath, I believe, at Dallas’s last show on Warped Tour. I believe it was 2003, not 2002. Been a fan of Underoath since 2001 🤩
Hope you're watching kids. This is what it's like when artists do what they want, not pumping out short-lived money makers! Not mentioning names, but ask alexandria if you're curious.
Love Underoath! The live shows lately have been so amazing. Incredible execution with extreme nostalgia. If you like UO, you probably won’t think we’re anywhere close and you might think we’re whack, so you shouldn’t listen to Long Goodbye.
came to say the exact same. even if they didn't pen the lyrics, the christian themes and push is all over that song & all throughout what they used to talk about in between songs at their shows. of course It's fine, we all knew what the deal was back then, but they can't sit here and lie like they didn't used to embrace it haha
@@bryantmiller2142 Everything I'm finding about the song credits Spencer and Aaron Gillespie along with Aaron Marsh for writing the lyrics, so I definitely think they had a hand in writing it.
Too bright to see, too loud to hear. 100% about faith. I don’t care whether or not they’re a Christian band anymore, it’s how they try so hard to dismiss their old music as not faith based. It’s like “dude, I get it, y’all don’t want to be associated with Christianity anymore, but y’all were and that’s ok.”
Disambiguation is their best record, imo. i started listening in 2004 after a friend burned me a mix CD which had Reinventing Your Exit. i went out and bought TOCS and FOB's From Under the Cork Tree same day. to me, it's awesome that i can literally never predict what they will do next. i remember back in 2010 when they put up just the audio of "Illuminator" on their website and i sat there and listened over and over trying to imagine what the song could possibly go like vocally (i wasn't listening to bands like Norma Jean or Every Time I Die at the time, so any frame of reference i had for that kind of fast and chaotic sound wasn't there yet). they're always surprising me and i love that they can do that. even if i don't think every single thing that they do is the greatest piece of songwriting in the genre ever (for example, when i finally heard Illuminator, i didn't love it though i really do now), it's important that they're doing what they want to do so i can get new music at all lol
People should stop being the thorns choking these guys esp.Christians community, let these guys follow their guts, grow as much as they want in their music. These guys are awesome legends.
Random but so cool that the rebirth tour date at 39:04 is the same day as my birth date! So sick!!! (Planning to get an UØ tattoo next week for my birthday too !)
Top 5 Underoath albums ranked: Define the Great Line Cries of the Past They're Only Chasing Safety The Changing of Times Lost in the Sound of Separation
Lost in the Sound of Separation is their best album. Act of Depression & Cries of the Past are cringe-inducing angsty albums that were clearly written by teenagers. The Changing of Times improved upon those two albums slightly. Chasing Safety was solid, but was over-produced and too polished. Define the Great Line was an amazing genre-defining album that pushed their sound in the best possible direction. But with Lost, the guys cemented their own personal sound - fewer poppy sing/scream gimmicks, more aggression, more authenticity, more creative lead guitar, more diverse song structures, etc. Disambiguation was good, but it lacks sonic variety; too many of the songs have the same industrial vibe. Also, Driftwood meanders a bit, and In Completion is a really lackluster closer. Erase Me was an embarrassment - look, you can make softer and more traditional songs, there’s. nothing wrong with that, but the problem with Erase Me is the songs are often derivative and uninspired. And many fi the lyrics from Erase Me are downright corny. The singles from Voyeurist seem better than anything from Erase Me, so I’m cautiously optimistic at the moment. But yeah, Lost is their crown jewel. It’s the only album of theirs that I feel fully represents who they are and what they wanted to do. It ditched the fake sheen of Chasing Safety, and it improved upon Define in every conceivable way. Side note - if Aaron and Spencer want to make more melodic music (along the lines of Deftones or whatever), they can do that with their solo projects like The Almost or SleepWave. They both already have outlets for their more melodic inclinations, which is why it frustrates me when they try to push Underoath in that direction.
Now that I hear this as an adult, seems to me they had an identity issue. As in because most of them grew up in Christian homes and they like heavy music they had to be a Christian band. If so why recruit a non believer to be your frontman? They were young of course. Seems as they grew up, specifically Aaron, figured out they really didn’t have a conviction about their faith and hence where they stand now. Curiously, I’ve Grown the opposite.
When Dallas started the band it WAS an explicitly Christian band, but it evolved as people grew and probably as members changed also. Although, during TOCS they were still an explicitly Christian band as well. Notice, Aaron was always the most vocal about his faith and he was the only original member. Not that it mattered to many people. If UO was never a Christian band, they'd still be my favorite.
I don't think they recruited a non believer. I believe Spencer was christian at first but grew from it as time went on. As I've grown I've gotten less spiritual. Some do the opposite it's natural.
@@bigtakeshi true. Aaron even said he'd miss shows because he'd be out in the street preaching to people and stuff like that. Tim was eating out of dumpsters. They were kids when UO blew up. We can't imagine what that's like mentally
@@auroraofstars some of the lyrics are over dramatic. Christian metalcore is usually fine but when it’s written by teenagers it usually doesn’t pan out
Dallas Taylor went on to sing for Maylene and the Sons of Disaster for 11 years, and got into a near-death ATV accident in 2016 and hasn’t made any music since.
I remember hearing about underoath in 2004 with reiv enting your exit and its dangourous business waling out your door on fuse and thought they were cool. I found them again in 2021 with there new record erase me and thought they were still good and then I bought disambigious and they're only chasing safety again in 2022 and been a big fan since then.
Aaron is mixing up Survive, Kaleidoscope with their Live in Koko album from London. Both were live albums, Koko was not a DVD. SK was the DFTGL tour in 2007 before Lost in the Sound was even made. Live in Koko was 3 years later, during the European LITSOS tour, when Aaron left directly after the tour. I'm sure all their tour memories get mashed into a giant blob of "WTF was that" moments though LOL. Desolate Earth...The End is Here is essentially a CHRISTIAN song. Spencer literally screams "I FOUND GOD, I found the strength of the Believers...Oh God save us all!" It wasn't an explicit worship song and their music wasn't like "I love you Jesus" which is what I think Spencer means, but that song at least definitely had faith based undertones. He's right about 99.99% of their music. It was not explicitly "Christian" music and no one ever cared. Their music was their music and it kicked ass and always will.
I would agree with spencer. If i didnt hear him the multiple times i saw yall say “we do this in the name of Jesus christ. I mean cool its not about God but he said as much
Wait. The reason Aaron only did two songs on their farewell tour is because the band wouldn’t let him do the tour? That is so messed up, he literally carried this band.

Lost in the Sound of Seperation
they're only chasing safety
Define The Great Line is on top because of what it meant and still means when it came out, but Lost In The Sound of Seperation is their best, imo.
Probably Lost. Define is right up there tho. Perfect one two punch of albums back to back. Some of my fav records of all time!

ruclips.net/video/jUiZmpY6Y5g/видео.html&ab_channel=braiandabrowski 37:44 .... naaa , they were really a super Christian band.
Is Aaron wearing an OWSLA sweatshirt? (That's Skrillex's record label for those who aren't aware)
Sleeping by the fucking riverside
I wonder how much it crushed Aaron's soul to acknowledge "Act of Depression" and "Cries of the Past" 😂
Cries has some bangers but act of depression is cringey beyond belief.
@@tpags7398 lol i keep hearing people say its cringey 😬 what is cringey about it
@@auroraofstars some of the lyrics are over dramatic. Christian metalcore is usually fine but when it’s written by teenagers it usually doesn’t pan out
@@auroraofstars there’s some cringe pro-life lyrics in there as well if I remember correctly
@@auroraofstars EVERYTHING.
okay.. but.. What's Dallas' last name and what's he doing now bc..man.. those vocals are the best.
alright.. what's Octavius doing?
Dallas Taylor went on to sing for Maylene and the Sons of Disaster for 11 years, and got into a near-death ATV accident in 2016 and hasn’t made any music since.
Fucking love them 💕
I remember hearing about underoath in 2004 with reiv enting your exit and its dangourous business waling out your door on fuse and thought they were cool.
It can be read sarcastically. Like, I found “god”, he sees the “strength” of belief, and finds it empty.
The background music almost completely ruined this, can’t hear Aaron
"I know that sounds cocky" 😂😂
What about “cries from the past “
This was cool to see as a long time fan of the band. BUT the music in the background was SOOO annoying
I would agree with spencer. If i didnt hear him the multiple times i saw yall say “we do this in the name of Jesus christ. I mean cool its not about God but he said as much
anyone have footage of spence throwing his guitar lol
Please stop adding the backing tracks to these I’m not here to listen to some generic riff I want to hear what they’re talking about
Wait. The reason Aaron only did two songs on their farewell tour is because the band wouldn’t let him do the tour? That is so messed up, he literally carried this band.
"Going on bible walks during the day and not showing up to the shows". Lol he's referring to Arron.
Lol how do u know though? I believe it haha.
