Timeless vocalist & certainly accomplished in many instruments .
Also was raised on Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich , Sonny Rollins , Miles (etc.) .
Peter Erskine (Kenton Drummer) was a milestone in my Drumming back then .
Love your appreciation for Classical greats as well . I ended up as a Carmel Bach Festival vocalist/other vocal ensembles/soloist for years .
Blessings to you. Appreciate your story .

Greetings from Baku, Azerbaijan! In the former Soviet Union we didn't have opportunity to follow Gino, we would hear his music a couple of years after it would be released. In the 1980's we didn't know or hear anything about him. What happiness it was when Yonder Tree was released and we found he is alive and his voice is stronger than ever.

I bought his first LP when I was 18, in the 70ties. Everybody around got sick by hearing those beautiful songs and I was a happy man😁😁. And Mr. Vanelli went on an on his own way with his own style. He's a really interesting human being. Thank you so much for coming in my life.

I loved singing with Gino when I was a young singer. Then decades later heard Wheels of Life, and realized what an amazing writer he was. So went out and started getting every CD/song I could find and learning them. Canto was amazing and I enjoy singing the Italian and French. Sometimes I sit and sing on my front porch along with Gino, and it never fails, a neighbor will tell me I have an amazing voice. Little do they know, I am singing every note the way Gino would, and it is he that they are admiring!

I also got "hooked" first of all by the harmonies, vocals and rhythms first time I heard Gino (BtB). Got all the vinyls and was introduced to classic music by Gino... later I bought all the CD's and discovered his poems/lyrics... in my opinion, he's a multi talented person and I am very, very happy that he is still touring, producing music and poems.

Gino always was "Himself", and never bent to the "suggestions' or demands of corporate music industry sharks. He composed and recorded music that HE wanted to give us to listen to, and music that he would enjoy creating and performing himself. That's why he has been marginalized by the media. But since you are here, and reading this comment, it means that you followed your heart, and easily saw the true artistry and value of Gino's music since "Crazy life" (1973). Gino's story is Similar in a sense to hundreds of music giants, who vanished from the media, but still have thousands of dedicated followers, professional musicians, and music afficionados. Peace.

Michael, I am so very happy you have taken the time to bring a man I feel - if one has the RIGHT to speak of a fusion [rock-jazz] musician as a true prophet unto humanity - IS indeed one as I speak in a very general manner, but since the first day I heard the amazing music of Gino Vannelli from a Television Concert in the early to mid-70s, I have been unable to get him and his music out of my mind! I purchased a number of cassettes after I saw that TV Concert, and EVERY piece of Gino's Music I have loved, with NOTHING being a piece I would not want to hear again. . . saving, Black Cars! And I can tell you WHY not Black Cars: I could not understand it, nor the writing of it at that time, saving a Rock piece, simply that Gino becomes more well-known by the Rock audience, which at the time was tops! The first piece of music I fell for was "Brother to Brother," and being a drummer myself, all I could think of while listening to that piece, was: "That drummer is doing such a great holding together and embellishment to THIS SONG! I learned later, his name was Mark Craney, WHO SADLY had passed away with a harsh illness, within years of his playing THAT CONCERT, but what an additionally great member to the Rhythm Section, ALTHOUGH the group en masse, was amazingly sweet, Gino's vocal heart-warming, IT placing the DRIVE into the whole piece, so one wants to get in yer car and drive quickly amidst the trees one sees along the Interstate! The Whole Album is MY FAV, BEYOND DOUBT!
This is a great getting together of two obvious good friends, and I want to seek after Gino's face, words, and voice, because he truly for me, is one of the most likeable and truly professional musicians we have had living among us since the 1950s. I too am a deeply religious person; a believer in the Creator FATHER Yahuwah Eloah Almighty, and His only begotten Son, Yahushua Messiah our Saviour. At the time, I had left Rock Music behind, after a most incredible spiritual experience having finally chosen to study the Sacred Scriptures, Genesis unto Revelation, which had occurred in 1974! Having been a working drummer, after my experience, I had to come away from the Rock environment, and strangely enough, hearing Gino maybe two years later, was the absolute opposite from a turn-off, but it made me feel as if I were listening to a more spiritual kind of music, which was an amazing thought! I still have his music now on Itunes, and often listen, and love everything that his done; BC not so much! Thank you Michael, and especially thank you, Gino and your amazingly musical abilities, for it ALWAYS brings me up to another plateau, just at the time I turn it on, and listen and have a quiet but passionately alive time! I love you, my brother, and I love your music, and your Family! Saddened in hearing about your Mom, and so too, all the best for the future: your Music, Family and spiritual endeavors!

Great interview. It's so ironic, I just finished a meditation retreat and decided to listen to a Brother to Brother and a different 2 part interview popped up where he spoke about his musical departure to go onto a deep spiritual quest. After I listened to those, I landed here. So glad to hear all of these inspirational stories. Gino has been a favorite musician of mine since the 70's. These interviews make me feel like I've relocated an old friend. His music is so deep. I craved those depths his music explores and delivers. If you're checking in Gino-bless your Divinely Gifted Heart for sharing your magic with the world. You lift us and raise the vibrations of all who hear you. Thank you Jazziz Magazine for bringing this to all. *)

The one... the only Maestro Gino Vannelli...
thru the fusion of each of his notes with his unforgettable, deeply passionate, poetic lyrics, brought to life as only Gino can with his sensual, seductive, unmistakable voice ~ like magic ~ each of his compositions become a rhapsody like no other we had EVER heard before. Incomparable. Unequalled. Ravishing all the senses. Enrapturing the heart & mind.... transporting us to an unfamiliar place of delightful bliss... to an alternate state of being... to euphoric ecstacy... to an extraordinarily rare, veritable EDEN of unique, unparalleled, most exquisite sound.
The incomparable Gino Vannelli was, is & will always be the genius, the epicenter, the alpha, the heart, the soul, the PURE MAGIC of the classic, legendary "Vannelli" sound.
Gino's "Crazy Life" beginning was MY beginning. Since then... Gino has been my "Earth God of Music." He ALWAYS will be. ❤
