- October 17 1995; Jeanne Calment surpasses the (since retracted) claim of Shigechiyo Izumi. In reality she had held the title of World's Oldest Ever person for over FIVE YEARS and would extend the all-time record to 122 years, 164 days. On her 122nd birthday she said: 'Can anyone beat that...?'
finbarrconnoll...
She sold coloured pencils to Vincent Van Gogh - wow!! She was 39 years old when World War 1 broke out and she remembers the Eiffel Tower being built! She drank wine, smoked, ate chocolate and LAUGHED, God bless her.
Her description of him made me actually laugh out loud.

122 years old? That’s hard to believe.
Kinda but the current oldest person is almost 119. I bet living very old will start to become more common
Where’s that pill that should have came in 2005??? Also I’ll be her age in 2121. I bet that will be normal by then
"How do you see the future?"
"Very Short."
that's some vintage sass.
😂😂😂😂 that's funny
Jeanne Calment Also Survived Her Entire Family You remember that Turtle that had a rivalry with the entire dynasty of a bunny and survived them all
That's Basically Jeanne
Such an badass
She knew Van Gogh? Damn.
There is no circumstantial evidence of her faking her age merely speculation. She did however claim she met (different from knew) Van Gogh and said he was an ugly alcoholic. Now whether she lied about meeting Van Gogh or her age, we will never know
@SuperCorrector1 your an idiot because she actually knew him
@SuperCorrector1 none of which you can actually name... niceee dude

Wow, this woman was 80 before my grandmother was born, turned 100 before my mother was born, and didn't die until the year I was born. Imagine living that long.
Jeanne lived very close to the maximum possible for a human, (which is estimated to be 125 years by most Gerontologists). Still more than 3 years longer than the recently passed Kane Tanaka at 119. I suspect her genetics, lifestyle and dietary avoidance of excesses was behind it. Cocoa and Olive Oil are well known to slow down the aging process and she ate quite a-bit of both all her life.
To think she was past 20 years old in 1900 and managed to live till 1997 completely destroy my mind...
And the fact she knew someone famous from the 1800s

Yes, 2 YEARS after.
I wonder if she would have lived longer if she never smoked.
My fathers grandmother who lived to her early 90's was a heavy smoker. She wrapped tealeaves in Irish News newspaper. My father told me she visited her doctor at the age of 90 and said she was considering giving up smoking becuase of her old age. The doctor laughed and basically told to her she's made it this far, and giving up smoking now would probably kill her given the shock giving up nicotine would cause to her body. The story always makes me chuckle when I think about it.
I'm still waiting for that pill that extends my life by 50 years.

Yeah if u so old and stay addicted to tabacco than u shouldnt stop. Body will collapse as u saw. I think 1 of 100.000 has no Problem with cigarettes. Nicotin combined with a longlife genetic seems to make the rare people tougher
John27346 If she had never smoked she'd probably still be alive.
Neros Animaljam Probably not. Some peoples' genes are just so good that smoking hardly harms them at all.
She smoked at *most* 2 cigarettes per day, and it's not known whether she inhaled or not. She quit smoking at about age 113-114 when she broke her hip. Surprisingly, she quit smoking not on health grounds, but because her eyesight was so poor that she was not able to light her cigarettes herself, and was too embarrassed to ask others to light them for her.
John27346 What a bizarre comment! She lived as long as she could. Scientists do agree that there is a "biological limit", you know. If she were alive now, she'd be pushing 140. Get real.
In 1965, aged 90 and with no heirs left, Calment signed a life estate contract on her apartment with civil law notary André-François Raffray, selling the property in exchange for a right of occupancy and a monthly revenue of 2,500 francs (€380) until her death. Raffray died in 1995, by which time Calment had received more than double the apartment's value from him, and his family had to continue making payments. Calment commented on the situation by saying, "in life, one sometimes makes bad deals" - Wikipedia source 😁😁😁

'' The oldest documented person that ever lived was a French woman named Jeanne Calment who made it to 122 years. What was her secret? According to French researcher Jean-Marie Robine, “She never did anything special to stay in good health.” Jeanne Calment smoked cigarettes (started at age 21), drank port wine and ate a couple of pounds of chocolate sweets a week until she was 119 years old. No one mentions what the cigs were. French unfiltered? There are claims that American burley (sugar cured) is the problem. Maybe what she smoked was actually healthy...plus French fresh produce, available to the wealthy.

It's amazing at how many people are shocked that she didn't die after smoking that many years. Scientist like to feed the world a lot of B.S. but, the fact is the people who got cancer, would have likely had it any way due to genetic and environmental factors. She lived that long because, it was meant for her to live that long. Apparently, she's had a lot of fun in her life and was able to see things many of us wish we could have seen. I'm sure she was very thankful for her life. I do wish they had of told about whether or not she had any children, grandchildren, great grandchildren living. Does anyone know her personally or know if there's anything they didn't tell?
while luck and genetics take part in getting old they are by far not everything.
the so called scientist are the reason where we are atm so calm down and talk about them like they just lie to us.

you cant tell things like that just out of 1 example.
thats why people always mess things up. they take long living smokers to justify their habits or are like "WHAAAT how can she live that long with smoking".
its just a probability thing. you can eat mercury every day and get 100 years.
smoking just decrease your lifetime in general. that doesnt say anything about an individual but about a population.
smoke and you decrease your chance of becoming old.
BuGGyBoBerl she smoked 2 cigarettes a day not 2 packs of cigarettes. It's important to keep balance in everything.
SileX84 balance? i agree with you but in what way is smoking only a tiny amount a sort of balance. its just like you eat a bit poison every day instead of much poison.
as said. its all about probability
What difference does it make? There are a lot of people who smoke and live to be really old. There are a lot of people who don't smoke and die too young. I just think that the "Truth" commercials go overboard.
Serenity G.
yeah but what does that mean? that you can do a lucky shot and survive long with cigs? imagine how long you may survive without it. imagine whats the chance to get that lucky shot. i really dont see that as a justification to smoke. 25% of it get copd. 90% of lung cancer patients are smokers, im not sure how much but 20-30% sounds legit higher chance of getting some problems with your heart.

So I through out all my clothes and made more for me. I bought lots of cloth. I can't be around smoke today at all it closes up my throat and I can't breath that's wood smoke too. We live In the country and some of our neighbors burn wood to heat their homes. They aren't close to us I can't see their houses even. But I can smell their smoke. So I would stop smoking because it will hurt you. They use bug killers on it now days to get the tobacco worms off it. Way back they hand picked them off it so it want prelouted like it is today. Those who dispute Jeanne Calment's age are doing her a great disservice. The hypothesis that she switched places with her daughter Yvonne has been categorically debunked.
Look at her hands at the start. Her skin aging is far advanced and not something you would expect to see in someone younger than a 110. Yvonne would be 97 in this video if the hypothesis were true and I can see from her appearance she is no less than 115.
