  • October 17 1995; Jeanne Calment surpasses the (since retracted) claim of Shigechiyo Izumi. In reality she had held the title of World's Oldest Ever person for over FIVE YEARS and would extend the all-time record to 122 years, 164 days. On her 122nd birthday she said: 'Can anyone beat that...?'

Jeanne lived very close to the maximum possible for a human, (which is estimated to be 125 years by most Gerontologists). Still more than 3 years longer than the recently passed Kane Tanaka at 119. I suspect her genetics, lifestyle and dietary avoidance of excesses was behind it. Cocoa and Olive Oil are well known to slow down the aging process and she ate quite a-bit of both all her life.

My father told me she visited her doctor at the age of 90 and said she was considering giving up smoking becuase of her old age. The doctor laughed and basically told to her she's made it this far, and giving up smoking now would probably kill her given the shock giving up nicotine would cause to her body. The story always makes me chuckle when I think about it.

In 1965, aged 90 and with no heirs left, Calment signed a life estate contract on her apartment with civil law notary André-François Raffray, selling the property in exchange for a right of occupancy and a monthly revenue of 2,500 francs (€380) until her death. Raffray died in 1995, by which time Calment had received more than double the apartment's value from him, and his family had to continue making payments. Calment commented on the situation by saying, "in life, one sometimes makes bad deals" - Wikipedia source 😁😁😁
    I love this old lady!❤❤❤

'' The oldest documented person that ever lived was a French woman named Jeanne Calment who made it to 122 years. What was her secret? According to French researcher Jean-Marie Robine, “She never did anything special to stay in good health.” Jeanne Calment smoked cigarettes (started at age 21), drank port wine and ate a couple of pounds of chocolate sweets a week until she was 119 years old. It's amazing at how many people are shocked that she didn't die after smoking that many years. Scientist like to feed the world a lot of B.S. but, the fact is the people who got cancer, would have likely had it any way due to genetic and environmental factors. She lived that long because, it was meant for her to live that long. Apparently, she's had a lot of fun in her life and was able to see things many of us wish we could have seen. I'm sure she was very thankful for her life. I do wish they had of told about whether or not she had any children, grandchildren, great grandchildren living. Does anyone know her personally or know if there's anything they didn't tell?

    • @BuGGyBoBerl

while luck and genetics take part in getting old they are by far not everything.
the so called scientist are the reason where we are atm so calm down and talk about them like they just lie to us.
this is just one example. she doesnt prove that smoking is np nor does she prove that smoking is bad.
you cant tell things like that just out of 1 example.
thats why people always mess things up. they take long living smokers to justify their habits or are like "WHAAAT how can she live that long with smoking".
its just a probability thing. you can eat mercury every day and get 100 years.
smoking just decrease your lifetime in general. that doesnt say anything about an individual but about a population.
smoke and you decrease your chance of becoming old.

yeah but what does that mean? that you can do a lucky shot and survive long with cigs? imagine how long you may survive without it. imagine whats the chance to get that lucky shot. i really dont see that as a justification to smoke. 25% of it get copd. 90% of lung cancer patients are smokers, im not sure how much but 20-30% sounds legit higher chance of getting some problems with your heart.
smoking is nothing that is overboard. its damn harmful and our society atm dont blame it too much.

Smoking now is very costly at 50.00 a carton for nobrand names and 75.00 to 100.00 plus. In 2019 I quit in 2013 and never started again cold threw them out made hubby paint the house on inside and got rid of the books they smelled like smoke it was in everything and you can't get that smell out of them. So I through out all my clothes and made more for me. I bought lots of cloth. I can't be around smoke today at all it closes up my throat and I can't breath that's wood smoke too. We live In the country and some of our neighbors burn wood to heat their homes. They aren't close to us I can't see their houses even. But I can smell their smoke. So I would stop smoking because it will hurt you. They use bug killers on it now days to get the tobacco worms off it. Way back they hand picked them off it so it want prelouted like it is today. That's what kills our lungs indians smoked it many years and never dead from them. But today we even die from our food we eat with all the extra stuff in it. Don't taste good at all. We are so persreved we don't have to be imbomped when we die. We are the only country like that a few years ago now.
