12 years later....I still come back to this scene, because I applied so much of this moment to my own life...at one time surrounded by chaos and feeling as tho I had no right to defeat it, and yet by overcoming it all....and living on....I’ve earned my redemption in my short comings. Giving up is easy....but “To live, that is my redemption”.
I think Siegfried and Nightmare are both at their finest in this game. Both are struggling to exist without the other, both are against odds and limits they've never felt before... And Crispin Freeman does a wonderful job on Seigfried.
I feel that this is, hands down, the best Siegfried of all the games. Here is a man who, despite seeking his own death, wants to spend his last moments doing what is right. That's why this ending (and even the alternate ending) really touched me. This is precisely how his character arc should end. IV on the other hand was a complete derailing of character.
A ending: Father... I will live on, no matter what happens. B ending: It does not matter. I will live on. To live, that is my redemption. SCIV: Our kind must not exist in this world. Not ever again. *freezes* Consistency? What's that?
'You have no right to live!' 'It doesn't matter. I will live on! To live...that is my redemption.' Man, I love this ending! It shows Siegfried's determination to right the wrongs that he has done. I can't wait to see what his story hold for him next...maybe he'll meet a female companion, like an orphan or something who will help him on his redemption.
No that's never true because both Patraklos and Phyrra can not be trusted. They are not main characters, they are bad guys who will kill kill kill. True they are Sophitia's kids but evil kids that's for sure. Hello they are born with evil energy right and Tira told Sophitia that because of a fragment of Soul Edge embodied into Soul Edge is the life force of her kids right? So if Siegfried did kill Nightmare destroying Soul Edge with Soul Calibur in 3 & 4 the both Phyrra and Patrklos should have benn dead by now right?
Ahmed, you must be malfested vermin! Jokes aside, Patroklos had the potential to be a good character but the shoddy story mode in SC5 made him pretty bad. Siegfried was a far better and more endearing protagonist, probably one of my favorite characters in any game.
Who are you calling malfested vermin?! Look Austin Parrish that was rude. I am human and if Patroklos or Phyrra tries to kill me then Link Spawn Talim and maxi will be my bodyguard and they will take them out.
+Austin Parish the only thing that annoys me is that siegfried is no more the master of the soul caliber and Patraklos is the new master. The sword before was big and mighty and now it's small and look terrible
I wish I could have seen this scene before. Many times I thought that giving up is the only way to find redemption, but now, thanks to Siegfried, I know I was wrong.
@DarkZelgadis01 I must agree with you, having too seen the SC5 siegfried and i already know how the SC4 looks like, i must admit SC3 is the best siegfried, i get chills when i go too the SC 3 char list and chooses siegfried, the voice too , goes so fluenty with the char, now SC5 , he's all older now, so idk wat too say.
Obviously it can't be cannon because each character has their own specific story and path. That's what made this game epic, I didn't mind playing through the same stories because there were different paths to choose from which gave many different rewards and unlocks. This was the main reason why SCIV disappointed me so much, the character stories were so bland, and Chronicles of the Sword was replaced with Tower of the lost souls. I ended up selling SCV the month after it came out.
Siegfried is my favorite Soulcalibur character of all time... Crispin Freeman is also the voice of the Wizard from Diablo 3.... which is also my favorite Diablo 3 character.
I can totally feel why people feel about this scene, everybody has a shadowside, it part of Carl Jung psychology, we all carry guilt and shame for mistakes we've done in the past. Many are haunted by their past, but few will actually face that side of them head on and atone to achieve their own inner peace. Siegfried represents the troubled young man who haunted by past mistakes, lived in total denial and became consumed by his own inner beast with the usage of the soul edge, to eventually seek to redeem himself for all his errors. Siegfried is an admirable man, he a flawed human being, but still seeks something better.
Thanks for watching the video and for the comment, it is a lot heavier and deeper than the average comment. Jung was one of my favorites. Stay warm and God Bless, Jeremy’s dad
You know something funny? When he says "I avoided your vitals... you'll live." after a battle, It's usually after I just stabbed through someone and tossed them over my head. I'm pretty sure that's not "avoiding their vitals". lol but he says it anyway.
@Kainthemain: Siegfried fought and beat Cervantes, the previous owner, in Soul Blade. He got the evil blade, that possessed him and, in exchange for saving his father, turned him into Nightmare. Later on, he was freed by Maxi, Kilik, Xianghua and the Soul Calibur. He still retains a deep connection with the Soul Blade due to the intimate symbiotic link they shared for a lot of time (kinda Captain Picard with the Borg Collective in Star Trek TNG).
@IceCrusher10 Siegfried picked up Soul Edge, which changed him into nightmare, Siegfried went dormant, but he was able to recover himself, after nightmare had been wounded by Xuangua and Kilik, after this he had full coltroll over himself during the day, but when he woke, he found numbers of dead bodies around him. Soon, Siegfried fell AGAIN to nightmare, and became the Azure Knight once again (SC II) As he was about to kill Raphiel, Siegfried regained slight controll over his body...
@Penciluser42 no the soul edge you saw there is what soul edge truly looks like. they redesigned it in 4, and also the one that nightmare holds (the phantom state) are just random. personally i prefer this one, its the one nightmare used in 2 (when him and Siegfried were one)
21? I don't know how old he was in the first SC or in Soul Blade, but four years have passed from SC to SC2, and at least month from SC2 to SC3. I don't think he was that young in the other games. Besides, where I come from, 21 is far past the time you get your "adult" voice.
That's right! He has to live..the story surrounding Soul Edge won't be the same without him in it. He's made a choice, now we need to see where that choice will lead.
No, I prefer SCIII Siegfried's voice because it's CRISPIN FREEMAN. That guy has the most epic voice EVER. Roger Craig Smith in SCIV did well, and yeah, it probably is closer to how someone that age would sound, but that's a hard act to follow. Besides, it may sound a little too old, but I still think Crispin Freeman's voice is more fitting. That gruff, pissed off voice fits really well for a guy with such a tragic backstory as Siegfried's.
I've got Soulcalibur, Soulcalibur II, and Soulcalibur IV myself (Xbox Live Arcade, Gamecube, and Xbox 360 versions, respectively). I even bought a PS1 to get Soul Blade, the first game in the series. Hoping to get a PS2 so I can get Soulcalibur III. Such a great series. Almost as groundbreaking as Street Fighter II.
Oh, I see what you mean. But, since Siegfried's back to normal, they didn't have much of a choice. Nightmare became a staple character. The current Nightmare's also got a weak style. Well, it's strong, but weak in the fact that it's easy to figure out. Siegfried's is better, I'll give him that. Siegfried is awesome.
He's choosing a different path from the one he lived when he was Nightmare. There was probably a time when Siegfried may have considered dying to repay society for his sins, but that would just trap him in the darkness even more. By choosing to live and keeping people away from Soul Edge...that is his redemption.
My last comment made it sound like I didn't care that much for Siegfried's style. Actually, it's my favorite and best style. I like Siegfried as a separate character, myself. The only Nightmare I play as in Soulcalibur II, for example, is Nightmare's third costume, Siegfried, with either Requiem or Soul Calibur as a weapon.
the Japenesse voice that plays as Seigfried also plays the voice of older Link in the Zelda games and even Yoshimitsu...the japenesse version though...watch play the 2nd 1 and look at the credits it'll have the same name for the charecters
I agree. I read his whole story and it's really sad how he killed his father on accident because he was a part of the Black Wind raiding group (not a spoiler; just backstory).
Good ending (maybe better than the first). Nothing and no one, even Soul Edge, can decide if someone will live or not. Even with a so big sin... so linked to Soul Edge itself.
well, Siegfried was Nightmare in 2, Soul Edge possessed his body, but at the end of 2 Siegfried broke free of Nightmare's control, and left him in peices sealed in the armor, which Zasalamel turned into a new body for Nightmare, so Nightmare could go do stuff that fit into his plan, somehting along those lines.

Zasalamel created a new body for Inferno out of the spirits of Ostrheinsburg (this is the part I'm too lazy to look up again), and Inferno is now the Azure Knight, via a cursed body. But he needed Soul Edge to sustain himself.
You're confused. Its just because you played SCIII first so you prefer his older voice but BOTH voice actors do a GREAT job. In fact in a way I prefer the SCIV voice a little more because he actually sounds younger. This voice sounds older and more gruff. You gotta remember the dude's only like 20 years old.
sorry im think if you put the blocking command siegfried will pickup the soulcalibur , but when you put the command you will pickup the soulcalibur too (if you getting hit by abbys by not press the button you will loss half of your HP) this ending is viewed from the event viewer

SaikyoMog the day after my 18th birthday....may he rest in peace..

IV on the other hand was a complete derailing of character.
+FrancoStrider True, it was disappointing. However, it's heavily implied that he was actually under the control of Soul Calibur
FrancoStrider
Well, at least that ending didn't happen in canon.
A ending: Father... I will live on, no matter what happens.
B ending: It does not matter. I will live on. To live, that is my redemption.
SCIV: Our kind must not exist in this world. Not ever again. *freezes*
Consistency? What's that?
Duuuuuuuude, i f***ing love that quote at the end. Can never get enough of it!
"It doesn't matter... To live, that is my redemption..."
words to continue your life by...
'You have no right to live!'
'It doesn't matter. I will live on! To live...that is my redemption.'
Man, I love this ending! It shows Siegfried's determination to right the wrongs that he has done. I can't wait to see what his story hold for him next...maybe he'll meet a female companion, like an orphan or something who will help him on his redemption.
Siegfried>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>patraklos
Like if you agree
No that's never true because both Patraklos and Phyrra can not be trusted. They are not main characters, they are bad guys who will kill kill kill.

And Patroklos will just conveniently get ahold of Soulcalibur again because plot or whatever
+Austin Parish the only thing that annoys me is that siegfried is no more the master of the soul caliber and Patraklos is the new master. The sword before was big and mighty and now it's small and look terrible
"To live... That is my redemption."
Then in SCIV he goes and turns himself into crystal SO MUCH FOR REDEEMING YOURSELF THROUGH LIFE HUH SIEGFRIED
At least we know in Soul Calibur V that he lives on.
Anyone else watch this for Nightmare's epic voice? :P
James Work-Grierson right!? :D
IT IS A SIN FOR YOU TO BE ALIVE!
James Work-Grierson my second is the nighmare taking soul edge
I wish I could have seen this scene before. Many times I thought that giving up is the only way to find redemption, but now, thanks to Siegfried, I know I was wrong.
Great ending to one of the best SC games.
Thumbs up the shit out of this, if you all agree on his quote and one of the best games of all time.
Siegfried among my favorite character it doesn't matter i will live 😎
gotta love crispin freeman. sexiest voice actor alive today. :3
My favorite ending and character in soul calibur
@DarkZelgadis01 I must agree with you, having too seen the SC5 siegfried and i already know how the SC4 looks like, i must admit SC3 is the best siegfried, i get chills when i go too the SC 3 char list and chooses siegfried, the voice too , goes so fluenty with the char, now SC5 , he's all older now, so idk wat too say.

And to think Roger Craig Smith (Siegfried) now voices Sonic the Hedgehog...XD
I can't wait for the final showdown between those two in Soul Calibur 4. IT HAS FINALLY COME!!!
god i love his voice
Does somebody have that "The legend... will never die" sound thingy that sounds in every single ending, after the credits?
Regardless of his age...the way he reacts to remembering nightmare's words is smooth...fly ending!
You know something funny? When he says "I avoided your vitals... you'll live." after a battle, It's usually after I just stabbed through someone and tossed them over my head. I'm pretty sure that's not "avoiding their vitals". lol but he says it anyway.
Way to Kick Ass, Siegfried!! ^^ He's one of my favorite characters, and he totally rocks!
BRAVO,BRAVO! i love very much Siegfired.
@Kainthemain: Siegfried fought and beat Cervantes, the previous owner, in Soul Blade. He got the evil blade, that possessed him and, in exchange for saving his father, turned him into Nightmare. to live that is my redemption...yeah funny how he froze himself in 4..
"You have no right to live"
"It doesn't matter, I will live on! To live... That is my redemption"... strong Rurouni Kenshin influence perhaps?
@Penciluser42 That's the complete version of Soul Edge. The one Nightmare wields in this game is a materialization of the weapon formed from memories
Soon, Siegfried fell AGAIN to nightmare, and became the Azure Knight once again (SC II) As he was about to kill Raphiel, Siegfried regained slight controll over his body...
thanks man, I bet he's gonna win the next elections!
Yea, you gotta do it just right, but I'm sure with some practice, you'll be able to do it..
Oh, I love that character. But oddly enough, regardless of them having the same skills, I only fight good with siegfried's good half.
Segfried: Duuuuude...I'm like...seeing 3 Nightmares maaaaan... What the hell am I on...
@Penciluser42 no the soul edge you saw there is what soul edge truly looks like. they redesigned it in 4, and also the one that nightmare holds (the phantom state) are just random. personally i prefer this one, its the one nightmare used in 2 (when him and Siegfried were one)
@LackOfPaitents: I grew up with TOS and TNG was one of my favourite show as a teenager.
I was gonna say that, but I never got the time and I never came back to it until now.
Whether you like SC3 or SC4 Siegfried better, I think everyone can agree that SC3 Siegfried's voice is ten times better. Crispin Freeman for the win.
Someone explain to me how Siegfried separated his body from Nightmare.
@IceCrusher10 I guess. I'm not exactly a source of information when it comes to the story of the series...
21? I don't know how old he was in the first SC or in Soul Blade, but four years have passed from SC to SC2, and at least month from SC2 to SC3. I don't think he was that young in the other games. Besides, where I come from, 21 is far past the time you get your "adult" voice.
o_o.. Never knew that. I like anime, and love Siegfried. It can't be a coincidence indeed.
@Kainthemain Used to be. Refer to Soul Calibur 1 or Soul Blade. THAT should explain a bit more about the two and Soul Edge's influence.
Sc4 Siegfried voice was a big let down for me, they should have kept this one =/
well, i actually loved nightmare, but only when he was siegfried in sc2. god i loved those days. i still have my copy at home^^
Hey, Street Fighter II was on GamePro's list of 20 Games That Revolutionized Gaming.
Siegfried Schtauffen = Tyler Workman Versus Nightmare = Black Knight
Oh, I see what you mean. But, since Siegfried's back to normal, they didn't have much of a choice. Nightmare became a staple character.
The current Nightmare's also got a weak style. Well, it's strong, but weak in the fact that it's easy to figure out. Siegfried's is better, I'll give him that.
Siegfried is awesome.
This is the only scene EVER in Soulcalibur when the voice actors almost shine xD
this was the most saddest and epic ending next to his a ending
''It doesn't matter, i will live on!! To live... That is my redemption!''. The cathedral collapses on him...
@Madrespect20 I think nightmare saying "you have no right to live" had an influence on it as he was showing his alter ego
He's choosing a different path from the one he lived when he was Nightmare. There was probably a time when Siegfried may have considered dying to repay society for his sins, but that would just trap him in the darkness even more. By choosing to live and keeping people away from Soul Edge...that is his redemption.
Nightmare, stop drinking beer, will you?
My last comment made it sound like I didn't care that much for Siegfried's style. Actually, it's my favorite and best style.
I like Siegfried as a separate character, myself. The only Nightmare I play as in Soulcalibur II, for example, is Nightmare's third costume, Siegfried, with either Requiem or Soul Calibur as a weapon.
he probably used theater mode and chose that specific sword
siegfrieds a badass
the Japenesse voice that plays as Seigfried also plays the voice of older Link in the Zelda games and even Yoshimitsu...the japenesse version though...watch play the 2nd 1 and look at the credits it'll have the same name for the charecters
It doesent matter....I will Live on!to live...that is my redemption
you got to wonder what it would be like to carry the guilt and burden he has if only for a day sometimes i'm suprised he does'nt commit suicide.
Now Siegfried sounds like Regal from Tales of Symphonia (coincidence definitely, since their VO work was done by Cam Clarke).
Nightmare isn't even a person really. He, or it, is the consciousness of Soul Edge.
EPIC! go Siegfried.
0:37
Siegfried: SHUT UP!
I agree. I read his whole story and it's really sad how he killed his father on accident because he was a part of the Black Wind raiding group (not a spoiler; just backstory).
@FuzzyBoysProductions I think it sound like Kratos or Solid Snake (Siegfried)
badass voice
@alexxexy no its the voice of itachi uchiha from naruto
yeah you're right He's the voice off Allucard
Good ending (maybe better than the first).
Nothing and no one, even Soul Edge, can decide if someone will live or not. Even with a so big sin... so linked to Soul Edge itself.
Used to be....He sort of escaped that fate..
well, Siegfried was Nightmare in 2, Soul Edge possessed his body, but at the end of 2 Siegfried broke free of Nightmare's control, and left him in peices sealed in the armor, which Zasalamel turned into a new body for Nightmare, so Nightmare could go do stuff that fit into his plan, somehting along those lines.
@Penciluser42 Soul Edge apparently got a random redesign out of nowhere
No. Nightmare separated from Sieg after SCII, hence the JP voice actor change, Nightmare being a separate character with some slightly different moves (no sword stances IIRC), and some other stuff.
It's true, actually. Inferno was the spirit of Soul Edge. I'm too lazy to go back and read the wiki, but I believe it said that Inferno inhabited the blue armor after Siegfried broke free of Soul Edge's control, then took the Embrace of Souls with him. nightmare is just a dream who scare people when in sleep XD
sorry im think if you put the blocking command siegfried will pickup the soulcalibur , but when you put the command you will pickup the soulcalibur too (if you getting hit by abbys by not press the button you will loss half of your HP) this ending is viewed from the event viewer
Siegfried was my first Character i finished SoulBlade with.
it ended in a dark ending wich was pretty cool.
and i didnt like it when i never saw him show up in Soul Calibur 2....untill i unlocked Nightmare costume #3 with the same looks as The Siegfried i know (geuss who became my fave) ;)
anyway....im still pissed about the problem of lacking a PS2 :(
i so want this game
yes knightmare is him when he had the soul edge
Best main charcter!!
the siegfried voice is cool
They didnt. If you know your Soul Caliber/SoulBlade lore Soul Blade was originally named Soul Edge in Japan. It was then ported to PSone as SoulBlade. The sequel Soul Caliber was named as such because it revolved around the creation of Soul Caliber the polar opposite of Soul Edge. haha the english voice just sounds very erm, proper and mature, i guess. his japanese voice adds a large dose of emo, which is totally the seigfried i know and love from SE and SC1.
and i had no clue seigfried was link haha
How so? If anything WE changed the original name which was Soul Edge to Soul Blade. Upon the sequel the game was named after the other sword. Not confusing at all and quite fitting if you ask me. With the Gatts's blade :)
NIGHTMARE FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!
Sieggy= "STFU!" -swipes sword- "Bish...."
Not anymore, I traded in the game awhile ago.. >_>
hh heh his japenesse voice is also the voice that plays as older Link...the classic older link
when i got to this part, in the ending it had Soul Calibur instead of Requiem...it looked awesome, but how did it happen?
i also had Soul Calibur during the fight with Abyss, but seriously...how?
his japanese voice sounds like Link, infact, in SC2 for the GC, they have the same voice actors
