  • First off, I can't post this video (and also look out for the two videos associated with this one) without saying that it wouldn't be findable on youtube without Wilty13 sharing with this classic and very rare game. With Chris Webber (you will notice his childlike behaviour) and Juwan Howard out with injuries, Tracy Murray gets his first start of the season and boy did he use that opportunity. Murray scores 50 on 18 from 29 shooting and comes up 6 points short of the franchise record held by Earl Monroe. February 10, 1998.

    I remember being in elementary school and watching Murray in college at UCLA with Don McLean and thinking that Murray has one of the smoothest, most beautiful shots I'd ever seen. He let the game come to him and was always ready to shoot his shot. Was never a star in the league, but for me that shot is unforgettable. Like how Reggie Miller's form is singular to him, same with Tracy Murray.

    I played against Murray in high school a couple times. We were in the same league. One game, we went head to head and combined for 52 points. He had 49 of them, but still.

    Rod Strickland was outstanding this game. Literally did everything this game. Rod too big and skilled for Delk to deal with. Could post, drive, dish...Just controlled this game. I thought Rod was putting it to PJ....So many nice passes....A couple behind the back a behind the head...Things PJ would probably scream about. They all worked and Murray was on 🔥

    Funny how Tony Delk scored 53 a couple years later...two random journeyman backups who had one night of fame!

    Also, it sounds like a younger Fitz (Bob Fitzgerald) broadcasted this game. This was probably when Fitz started calling Warrior games (1997-1998 season?), and I guess this was the season where he basically took Greg Papa's Warriors job?
    Fitz does sound a little inexperienced/fresh out of college in this broadcast. Like him or not, I guess we can say Fitz has come a long way since this, as far as calling Warrior games go.

    Look at Juwan and Webber cheering, i bet they made sure Tracy Murray had fun that night.
    While that Todd Fuller - Adonal Foyle Warrior frontcourt is quite ahhm....

  • @86byrdman
    @86byrdman 11 лет назад +1

    Why was the crowd cheering for Tracy Murray? Was it because he was going after the Wizards franchise record or because there were no other players to watch?
    Man, what a terrible Warrior game this was. This was two seasons (1997-1998 season?) before I started following and becoming a real Warrior fan, which was in the 1999-2000 season.
    This looked like a typical Warrior loss in the past, where a player you never heard of, has a big game... Thank goodness the Warriors are a good/decent team now!

    Both my beloved Golden State Warriors and the team formerly known as the Washington Bullets (a little inspiration from Prince with that one) have really improved their colour scheme and jerseys and artifice from the beginning of the 2000’s to the end of the 2010’s. Please do not go back to those ugly 2000’s colour ways.
