- The Citroen C5 is a stylish family car and it's more refined than most rivals. There are some excellent diesel engines and the suspension provides a cushy ride.

Been driving Citroens since I started driving (my first car was a cheap AX) and currently own my C5 since May 2008. It's been ultra reliable, flawless in fact - haven't even had to change a bulb in it, great to drive, comfortable beyond anything I have ever been in, it's just... perfect, really. For any length of a journey, nothing does it as comfortably as this for the price.
I have several cars, but the C5 Tourer is the one I use the most, I can honestly say this has been the BEST I`ve ever Driven !!!
The best 10 year old design car on the roads today.
Renault megane sport tourer 2009 would disagree
@@videoforum4047 That car wasn't 10 years old 2 years ago when I made my comment. Still not as nice as the C5 in my view and far less reliable.
508 looks better
Bmw 5 2010-2017?:)
@@lukazupie7220 You will notice my original message was over two years ago. The C5 X7 design is now 13 years old.
I have had a C5 for four years now and I really enjoy it. 2.0 diesel engine has great torque and its really smooth. It is very comfortable for driver and passengers and I have been making 1000 km/day trips with it when on holiday. Even long drive doesnt wear you out. Dash is not confusing. When you just learn the switches of your car you appreciate how easy it is to use all functions. There are a lot of functions in a C5 as cars are very well equipped. I calculated how much I would have to pay more for a similarly equipped same-size german saloon and I would have needed 10 000€ more. I chose C5 and have been very happy about it.
Really makes you wonder when german VAG cars like VW and Skoda have been having huge problems with timing chains, turbos and transmissions. Problems that are serious, potentially dangerous and very expensive to the owner.
"- for som reason".. you say. There are many very good reasons fort that. I ownd a Xantia ones (petrol). That car did not like cold whether. Since I live in Sweden, I realized that I should never have bought that car. The crankcaseventilation often froze upp and that shortend the lifespan of the engine. This is a problem of many of PSA´s older models. In the rear wheelhouses there was also a small plastic cover against the coffert that used to loosen when there was snow and ice packed in the wheelhouse that loosened. In Sweden we hawe snow in the winter so.. This caused many Xantias to throw water and dirt right in the rear fender which then rosted from within. This are terrible design/constructon defects that should never have been found on products from such a large manufacturer. The Xantia also had problems with the ignitionlock wich caused the cupefan to stop working sporadically. This happened to me a very cold winter day on my way to work. In a moment the windshield froze up, so I barely saw the road. I tried to find a suitable place to stop but I was not fast enough. I drove in to a sidewalk and cracked the tierod, wheel, damper and a sphere on the left front side. But I´m happy I didn't kill someone. So, there are MANY god reasons for there poor reputation. PSA has over the years made many shitboxes that shuld never been sold at all. I've had some other cars after the Xantia but now I'm interested in a newer C5 from 2014. I think it's actually a really good car that can also withstand cold.
Magnus Häggblad you cherry picked some issues that happened to you. General population won't have such issues.
ever driven an "exclusive" !!?? who the hell would like to resell that car !? it's a pure jewel of comfort and silence to drive... ;-)
I really fancy getting one of those, so much car for your money
Fantastic car the c 5 exclusive! I have over 200 k mile on mine and it drives like a car with 50k on it ! Super comfortable car and a reliable 2.0 hdi engines
Thanks to my dad discovering the BX many many years ago... (we had four of those) Three CX's, (sporty!!) Two XM's (wideboy sofa barge!!), Seven Xantia's (comfy!!) in all their variations later (but always a Diesel engine) he's just this weekend buggered off to get his mitts on I think this is his Number 8 C5... think this one is gonna be a saloon but hey who knows... we love Citroen suspension on the shitty Irish roads and I agree 110% once you ditch the springs Citroen have you for life!
Absolutely brilliant car, fantastic to drive, and so so comfortable, but finding used ones with low miles is difficult
Indeed it's hard to find nowadays.
Not in France
"Too many switches on the dashboard" I heard that in almost every single "review" of the C5 III. As if that was so much important. I got used to these after 1-2 month of driving. You choose which ones are important to you, and you cope with it naturally. There is no law to use them "all at once and forever". Sounds almost like they "had to find" something to critizise.
Agree totally and you can see what buttons you are pressing, not some idrive system where you have to scroll to find what you want.
Saying needed 2 months to get used to the mess of buttons sounds like you "had to find" something to critizise....
Reviewers when unfavorably comparing the C5's handling on winding roads with the likes of BMW, never in my experience mention the C5's 'Sport Mode' suspension setting, which noticeably improves handling on such roads. A significant improvement is also achieved by raising the recommended tyre pressures by 5 or 6psi, neither measure adversely affecting comfort particularly on main road/long journeys.
Surely nicer then a Mondeo or a Passat.
this is such a beautiful and strongly made car. I am always a fan of the very comfortable ride over the potholes.
easily the most comfortable and tech savvy car in its class ..seems to be made really well and set up for a high mileage low maintenance type of ownership ..the man in the video must be a bit of an idiot if he can't position his seat by pressing a button
the best car i have ever owned and believe me i have owned hundreds
I have mine 3 yrs aTAXI in Dublin , exclusive model hydro suspention , still smooth . has never let me down, had passat before this The AA RESCUE LADS GOT TO KNOW ME BY NAME, lost a fortune.... my passanger s always complement how smoth it is , they always tip me. German cars sound like tanks with miles on....
How many miles did you clock up over the years in you're c5?
I am driving my second C5 and it is the best car I have ever own.....
My experience of German quality:
Owned a Mercedes E class from new. Full dealer service history, engine blew up at just over 100k.
Owned a BMW that was a few years old, full dealer history. Vanos failed. Dash rattled and BMW couldn't find/remedy it.
Owned an AMG E55, full dealer history, torque converter gave up. Cost thousands to fix.
A few years ago got the wife a Renault Laguna for £1800. Part service history, 130k. Still have it in the family. Never skips a beat. More comfortable than either of my Mercedes. More reliable than any German car I've ever owned.
Generally speaking, Renaults and French cars in general are of average build quality in my experience. Just as German cars are. If you want something built really well, buy a Lexus, or a Honda, or a high spec Toyota, maybe a Jag, but not an X type.
Anyway...German quality/reliability/premium. In my experience the only thing premium is the price.
best car ever driven
you Don't know what your talking about.I have had c5 Exclusive 08 for 5 yrs as a Taxi 350,kilometres. no trouble what so Ever. and it still rides Beautiful..passengers HAVE always complemented the comfort. I've had passats and The lads in the AA GOT TO KNOW ME BY NAME THEY LET ME DOWN SO MUCH....THE GERMANS HAVE US ALL BRAINWASHED... citroen all way...
I worked in recovery, we covered all the major insurance companies for breakdowns, so I picked up allot of cars . . I don't recall ever picking up a broken down C5 . . mostly passats, focus's, mondeos, audi's and mercs . . all the "premium" cars as they claim lol
The review is bad the car is good.
c5 drives perfect
I support you completely. The lady does not know how to drive and thinks she can do car reviews.I have seen some and they are utter waste of time. The C5 is the most comfortable sedan this side of a S-Class
"German reliability". German cars especially VW and BMW have the worst reliability rating amongst a lot of car critics such as JD Power, Warranty Direct and Auto express. Citroen and Peugeot scored slightly above average in reliability so I think your talking bullshit to be fair. I would prefer a Toyota over a Citroen but I admire Citroens uniqueness and flair, and there are very few cars as comfortable as Citroens.
german premium blabla.. german quality blabla... can´t hear it anymore. does really anyone still believe in this "premium" scam?
marwiesi sadly ppl buy them more and more. Most brands are dropping their family class cars because they can't compete anymore.
I do
Yeah, they like to compare everything to a German car, mainly bmw for some odd reason... as if they don't break down at all lol
German cars still live on their old image. From 2000 on it got downwards, but this is true for all cars. Modern German cars are not bad, but as almost all cars these days are not build for usage of 30 years or so. They economically calculate a change of car by the owner after 4 years or so and accordingly adapt material used. Less metal, less zinc etc.The time of absolute strurdy designs in every aspect has past. The C5 III is a very good car, good look/design (unlike C5 I+II), the hydropneumatic suspension is not as good as in the Xantia, but it reatains some good Citröen middle class values, which most competitiors never met. Underrated in anyway. At least it makes sure that it is a non-conformist car. The middle class Citröens have been known for being cars "liked by engeneers". My brother is an outstanding German engeneer (20 patents on his name) and he owns 11 Citröens (most Xanitas, one C5 III, a BX....). He dislikes especially Audi and SUVs in general, but that is also because of the type of persons sitting in these cars ;)
I have this car and am very happy with it, I’ve had VW cars before and I don’t see that much difference. I also love the steering wheel and it’s controls.
how us the lever on the seat hard to reach lmao
German? this is a real french car
The Citroen CX (back-a-day) was supremely comfortable but did lean round corners. Its successor the XM had a computer which stiffened the suspension round corners, counteracting any lean. It's a pity to hear that the lean is back on this modern day equivalent.
actually, the xm had still rolls.
Let me explain : both, the xm and c5 works exatly the same, they both have a computre that stiffen the suspension, however, the c5 can lower it's suspension to have a better cx.
The only citroen that didn't have any rolls was the citroen xantia activa, which had an active anti-roll suspension
German car: all these switches, so amazing and futuristic
one of thd best looking cars ever
Have had BMWs and Audi A6 as well as some hi spec Japanese vehicles too. But we have had our C5 Diesel variant for the past 2 years and couldn't be happier ... I have never had any problem with dials and switches no matter what their placement ... Just wondering if there was any kick back to the lady doing this review from rivals or is she just a pretend German car owner if she could afford to be?
i have it,its a very good car!
She needs to get a job in a daycare, not doing car reviews.
And as for the reliability of Citroens, If you've had them in the family for a generation (or two) ;) there's nothing that you cant fix at home with a set of stardrives and a number ten spanner regardless of age, model or whats wrong!! just be careful of any trim clips that may be brittle!
The opposite! Very strange solution
I bought mine at 63000 recently and hope for a good few years
Is all still good with yours?
How has it been?
perfect car!
Citroen 👍🏼👏
My Car..Proud
Had it for about 6 months now and I'm loving it , it's a bit bulky but that's great as well lol , if you can't handle a proper car then drive a bike 🤣 nice torque , great comfort and pretty cheap all in all
Stopped watching after hearing comparison to 'premium' german quality 😂
Thats some hardcore detachment from reality
Im not saying German cars are all bad, I just think the likes of VWs are highly over rated. I do love Mercs, they are gorgeous but they do have their faults especially regards quality control on some of their early '00 year cars, like c classes built in S/Africa with no panel to panel sealant and loos fitted rubber grommets and so on. I'm a Toyota guy, I love them, Lexus's are beautiful and I do like Citroens and Peugeots. If they were such bad cars why do they sell in the laods they do. Haha
"four figure discounts" sounds a lot like "four finger discounts".
Don't steal cars kids, it's not worth it.
Once you have a German car (I've had two); you know why they lost WWII.
Love it !
Guys I need an advice please. I am in a big dilema. I love relaxing and quiet cars. My choice comes to 3 models. Citroen C5 Tourer,Skoda Superb or Volvo V70. All models are around 2010-2011,diesel engines. I am curious if someone had an experiance with this models and which engine/transmission are the best bet. We are family of 4,with 2 car seats at the back,50-50 town/motorway. Soft, quiet ride is my priority, followed by relibility of course. My heart goes to Citroen, but not sure about reliabilty of it,but love the idea of something different. Any advise much appreciated. Regards!
May be a bit later but here are my thoughts!
Citroen is the way to go (In my opinion). Why?
-The most comfortable ride You can have (If You get the hydropneumatic suspension)
-Great Fuel economy
-Pretty reliable (If You service it)
-Troubles cost less to repair rather than other brands.
-They are just gourgous!
Don't buy one I have a 2009 one all 4 injectors failed 1200 pounds now the steering rack has failed 2000 pound avoid
Volvo v70 is better in everything.
WHAT THR FUCK? The seat setting buttons are hard to reach? Too many buttons? Are you fucking serious? I have had the car for 2 years, it took me 2 weeks to know where everything is...
Are you also driving a motorbike?
Nice car
Would people recommend this car? Been looking at one and just been wary due to reputation of French cars from people. I'm in the market for Diesel due to long journeys. All I want is good reliability and I like this car.
I have 2.0hdi 163hp exclusive with 279K at the moment and it has been excellent so far, no major problems at all. Engine, fuel injectors, flywheel, gearbox, electrics, hydro suspension, not a single fault. It is very comfortable, has enough power, in fact, it's made for long journeys. Based on my experience you have my full recommendation. If you already bought C5 or some other car, good luck with it.
@@bakangla6299 Thank you for the reply I'll keep it in mind for future reference. I appreciate it 🙏
Someone selling a 3.0l hdi gasoline engined, exclusive model, hydramatic, tourer version because i will give more than you could sell it for, also a manual would be preferable.
What should I buy?. A Volvo S40/60 or a citroen c5?.
Can't go wrong with C5 163/180/204 hp diesel engines. Just go for exclusive trim with full leather seats and panoramic roof.
Not that Volvo is a bad car, it just lacks the hydropneumatic suspension.
Ridiculous to compare with mondeo, it is not in the same league
What a terrible, biased review.
Just scrolling further down through most of the replies on this page ... General consensus seems to be the female reviewer obviously knows diddly squat ! ... ha, ha, ha!
German quality............................... blah, blah, blah.
hahaha, yeh this is an amazing car!
Ситроен с5 лучше, любой немецкой машины !!!
The host sounds like a whinger. "Something like a Ford Mondeo"? WTF? The C5 shits all over a Mondeo!

Considering only moany bastards report faults that go on surveys I would take the JD bollocks with a pinch of salt. It does not take into account the types of owners or how they choose to maintain and use a car.
Rolls Royce...
This review is so bad lmao
What the F is this chick talking about?
(Although I must admit people do complain about its reliability a lot)
That's the sad truth. European cars are stylish without doubt.
But they tend to break down way more than Japanese cars. Given the choice, I would lean towards Toyota.
Bmw, mercedes, volkswagen = reliability
SSMateuszSS German cars are probably more reliable than French cars. But the current salary of many people probably doesn't make the BMW or Mercedes a viable option. If there was a VW dealer nearby, I wouldn't mind having a Jetta.
But generally speaking, I usually go American or Japanese.
SSMateuszSS You wish.
Simply because, more often than not, Japanese cars offer not many features so there isn't much to go wrong anyway. I like Japanese cars (and I have one myself) but your conclusion is too general to be correct...
European cars vary of course, but generally speaking it's harder for your average mechanic to get parts for European cars. Most mechanics would probably say that Japanese and American cars are generally easier to maintain.
IDIOTIC REVIEW..Has she really driven one ?BMWs are far more unreliable Mercs much better on average IMHO
THE C5 is a good car overall esp diesel mileage
outdated already. unreliable
