this story is just so weird and also an accumulation of unfortunate events. Raymond had that head injury which probably added to his personality coming from a disturbed childhood. Martha was just so deprived of love and acceptance she would do anything for it. it's just insane.

Sort of random, but what you said at 5:20 about his head injury changing his personality is really similar to what happened (historians believe) to Henry VIII! He was a super charming and cool dude until he had an accident, was in a coma for a day, and then he woke up and his whole beheading and divorcing spree started!!

i love how you even humanise the killers. its very easy to not even think about what they are/were like when many of them have mental illnesses or are the way they are due to their childhood or life circumstances. i always like to know what the killers are like and even feel slightly sorry for them. (also in no way am i saying having a hard life is any excuse to be a murderer.)
back in that time they did have the "ugly laws" people who weren't pleasant to look at weren't able to be out at certain times and did have a hard time finding practical jobs

Heather J well obviously but damage to that part of the brain can cause severe personality changes and impact the way someone emotionally responds or process others emotion, so that can impact them and make them more susceptible to such violent behaviour and insanity so
i mean i agree with you but even before that he wasn’t the greatest person. he abandoned his wife and four kids. i’m sure the brain injury played a part in it but i see a lot of comments mentioning the brain injury but not many acknowledging the fact that martha was molested by her BROTHER and was beat for it. they’re both messed up mentally.
annagalkin when you have predispositions to something + with your own -ve actions then this is what happens. people focus on the brain issue mainly bc the brain is yet to be understood and i guess studying psychology and being a med student it intrigued me but i agree w you 100%

There was a small case in my area and we still don’t know what happened to the boy. His name was Maddox Ritch and he went missing in a park in NC. His body was found days later and nobody knows what happened. I’d love to see someone cover this case because not many people know about it.

Yes, and it was opined that his personality really did a 180 after his accident.
Insanity pleas do not apply to personality disorders, or traumatic brain injuries. An insanity plea implies the person didnt know right from wrong, and cannot be held accountable for their actions due to having a psychiatric disorder at the time of the offense. Sounds like they made the right call.
I thought about that too.. then the person above who also commented makes a good point. Also I feel like when two people are involved one of them could usually just push all blame to one party. Like martha could have said she was forced to do these things in fear of what he might do to her after seeing all the things he had done to previous women....guess her love for him may have prevented her from saying something like that though

Please look into the case of Sharon Marshall and Franklin Delano Floyd. I think it is the most mysterious, creepy story I have ever heard. It's so convoluted it's hard to even describe it to other people. Just in the past few years they have, miraculously figured part of the mystery out. Although the whereabouts of Michael Hughes (Sharon's son) and her brother are still unsolved. Sharon's life was such torture, she deserves to have her story widely known.

The honeymoon killers is a great movie based on this case.
I just watched an episode of lucifer and there was a case that was very similar to this with the serial killer being the "broken hearts killer" and i thought it was so interesting, im guessing its based off of this couple because it has the same type of idea
