  • In this slightly dramatised episode, I take a walk through the central woods of Epping forest in mid April 2024 - at the turn of the season. I remember having had a very poor night's sleep the night before filming (having slept in my van). It took a while to really connect with myself and the landscape, as I was struggling with weariness in my body and mind. You will see I take a while to sit and meditate, which helps to release the leftovers of nightmares and bring peace. At the same time, I believe that constant weariness and my ADHD-style of brain might let me pick up on the textures of otherwise unseen natural vibrancies. I wonder if druids experience the same, please leave a comment if you think you know what I am talking about.
Towards the end of the video, I find a spot for a headstand, which helps my body and being no end. Normally, I would have climbed a tree as this is the kind of mini challenges that bring aliveness, but this is not allowed in a protected forest (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and rightly so..
I hope you enjoy this mini-adventure, the sights and sounds of this historical and fascinating setting. Maybe it will inspire a visit, or perhaps you already know it, in which case you can now view it through another set of eyes. Either way, Epping Forest for me, is an epic forest!
With Thanks to the Epping Forest Corporation for the permissions to film inside of this beautifully kept British forest.

I’m confident there are trees in Epping Forest of 2000 years plus in age. Living trees I must add. Brilliant video thanks for sharing

Beautiful videography and editing. Choice of music was excellent. Beautiful narration. Ken, has a great voice for it. Great to see you still trying to affirm yours/mans connection to the land as well as respect for its power and fragility, and healing qualities.

Thoughts and comments as requested guys. ❤ Beautifully shot and Ken’s voice is captivating. I felt a little uncertain all the way through. The drama has a dark and even slightly menacing quality to it. Then there are personal moments and reflections: ‘Meaning itself is burned away in the light of being?’ Is that a quote? It might be profound but for those of us who are searching for meaning it might be a bit of a chunk to get over…. I don’t know where to go with that but I think that’s the thing with this film… it’s not sure what it’s trying to say? There are references to history and tragedy, trauma and peace but it doesn’t feel like a journey as much as a patchwork of thoughts and images. Hence the feeling of uncertainty. What are we to make of the forest and our place(s) in relation to it? A previous Treeman Training video (which I adored) had a clear narrative about climbing a tree with a bit of context to explain and the beautiful catharsis of reaching the top. That was so meaning-full! I felt I understood the Treeman Training brand and loved the concept. Now I’m a little confused about what Treeman Training is. This is different to the previous videos with just the trees in common? Where are we going with this? I thought I understood what Treeman Training was about but now I’m uncertain. 😅

Much appreciated your time and honest feedback, Tim. ❤️
We hear you about feeling uncertain all the way through it. We will try and address your questions below here.
This mini-doc was inspired by both the outstanding beauty and the historical depths of this protected ancient site, and, seen through the spectacles of our current circumstances, as a crew, and, more specifically through the lenses of Ken's Chronic Sleep Disorder and ADHD, and how uncertain these can make a person's life.
CSD and ADHD also come with nightmares in Ken's case, and, we had a go at shedding some light on those - they can appear dark and menacing if unchallenged. The "meaning" that one could be tempted to attach to images and feelings coming up from nightmares, burns away in the light of reconnection and reconciliation with nature. It is about observing the nightmares pass by and not identifying with them - they will eventually evaporate away. That was not a quote as far as we know, it was just what came to mind to succinctly describe that process.
On the other hand, CSD and ADHD can, perhaps afford a certain specific sensitivity to the environment, which would perhaps not be easy for neurotypical folk - just a guess. Based on that, the mini-doc had a go at highlighting potential common grounds between the Treeman philosophy and Druidism / Shamanism - so, there was also a spiritual note to it, so to say.
It is granted that this mini-doc's narrative was a bit hermetic at times, and, perhaps would have benefited of more initial context. We hope to have better financial means to create longer cuts of our future mini docs - as it stands, some of the context is currently left to the viewer’s interpretation.
The long history attached to this location, also, makes it a special place that inspires respect and allows for reflections on the impermanence of life.
I hope this helps. Thanks again and feel free to add more questions, or observations. 🙂
