Last minute match changes, due to injuries; Vince Russo walking out of WCW, before this show; many wrestlers threatening to ask for their releases, after Kevin Sullivan is put in charge; etc. Not to mention, the Radicalz leaving WCW, after this show is over. All this stuff happening, and it's only January. Really goes to show how 2000 becomes a wild year, for WCW, and there's still a lot more to come.
To help put into perspective the 115,000 PPV buyers for Souled Out 2000, WCW will literally only have two more PPVs that even hit six digits (Spring Stampede & Bash at the Beach) for the remainder of its life, with even at least one ECW PPV (Living Dangerously 2000 in March) outperforming WCW's own PPV in the same month (Uncensored) in buyrate (0.24 vs 0.13)!
Benoit didn't trust Sullivan not to screw him over on the booking if he resigned a long term deal with the company which is reasonable considering their history. All of the "Radicalz" wanted Russo to remain as booker because, for all of his faults as a creative, he was giving midcard talent meaningful television time

As a Benoit fan it was a great moment him winning the wcw world title but at the same time him jumping ship with melenko Guerrero and Saturn was and still is the best move they ever made and Guerrero and especially Benoit would have legendary moments in the wwe benoit was very passionate about professional wrestling and his hard work and dedication shows how hard the rabid wolverine has worked his ass off 2000 would be a great year not just for Guerrero but for Chris Benoit as well Benoit would go on and have great matches with Jericho angle rock undertaker and many more in the year 2000 he was certainly intensity personified
@theirishhammer5986 He didn't have the personality as some of his peers. However, I feel it worked with him and 'great technical wrestler' hadn't been overdone like it is now. He was the Rapid Wolverine and it worked. At the time he stood out.
Benoit had a “physical charisma” to his technical style that very few had. It wasn’t just a bunch of moves just for the sake of having moves. There was purpose and a “plot point” so to speak behind every one. Malenko was another one with this ability. And although they had better mic skills, if you just watch their matches from bell to bell, two others were Owen Hart and Kurt Angle. It’s on YT somewhere, but there’s old fan footage of a New Japan match from the mid-80s between Owen and Benoit that is the perfect example of this style. And is definitely worth watching.
I was at this PPV!! My grandma bought tickets for my uncle and I for my birthday. I was a huge Benoit fan and was gonna see him possibly win the world title….welp

Since Russo came in, I didn't feel great about almost any storyline or character etc. Benoit and others were over due to their look or in the ring ability and not Russo's booking. Seemed like they wanted a change and yes they were happy about getting a shot at moving up but I don't think that anyone would be in favor of Russo long term. Some things were done right or had the right guy involved but the booking was just so chaotic and not good for the overall company

I mean, come on, if Konnan truly only ever referred to himself as "K-Dogg" in that entire conversation then I'd argue that he got exactly what he deserved... and I say this as someone who has a lot of respect for Konnan.
That main event theme NEVER fails to hype me up. Don't care what the match is or how it turns out, when that theme starts is one of my favorite moments of any RTW video. Also probably my favorite running thing in this series, have loved all the running jokes but keeping that theme for the main events was a great idea.
