      i gotta ask, what is going on with that thumb pick- what make and size do you prefer??

    • @guitareveryone
      @guitareveryone  10 месяцев назад

      @@sempercompellis the thumb pick is called a Herco blue. A lot of steel guitar players use that pick as well as Nashville studio ace Brent Mason. Using a thumb pick helps me free up my index finger which is great for plucking and for that chicken picking percussive sound. And they last long too and don’t break like other brands. It takes getting used to because it will feel odd starting out. You can find them at places like Amazon.

      @@guitareveryoneIs that specifically the Herco Blue Flex 52 ? There are a number of different Herco Blues. I ask because I’m going to switch from a flat pick and I’d like to get it right the first time.

    Hi, that really put a smile on my face. I've been playing since I was 13 years old. I'm 75 now. I played lead guitar for 61/2 years in a rock band, in the late 60s. I've had a Christian musical ministry for 30 years and use my rock chops to try to steer kids in the right direction. However I've never done much Chicken pickin. I am writing to ask if you could please tell me where I could get some instruction and information on how to do what you just did. I would be grateful for any information you could provide in that direction. BTW. 10 seconds into your playing and I couldn't help but hit the subscribe like and the bell for all notifications. Thank you for putting out that video I look forward to hearing more. Shalom/gw. ❤

      @@googleboy7 Thank you very much for the kind comments ! And thanks for subscribing! I really need to do a video on this and break down some of the licks and how I played them. I may do that soon.
      It’s hard to know where to point you specifically but of course there are many courses out there including “chicken picking” where they showcase licks and break them down. Courses like TrueFire for example which are taught by world class players whereas I’m a totally self taught player and shamefully don’t spend any time learning many technical aspects of playing any style. It’s more of an idea at the time.
      But chicken picking for me is nothing more than percussive picking using your fingers and pick or in my case thumb pick and fingers and using a lot of plucking the strings as opposed to straight flat picking. But it’s a great style.
      Some of the masters of that style for me are …James Burton, Brent Mason, Roy Nichols, Albert Lee’s earlier work with a tele, Johnny Hiland and Redd Volkaert just to name some.
      Thank you again for subscribing to the channel and for being so kind.

      @@SMart7751not sure where to find another like it but you could search for a 2013 Fender American Standard Ash Telecaster that’s all stock and see what pops up. That exact model has been discontinued for a long time. I’m sure there would be models popping up from time to time.
      If you are lucky enough to locate one like it one of the things to look out for would be the stock pickups. Mine has Fender Twisted Tele neck pickup in the neck and a Fender Custom Shop Broadcaster pickup in the bridge. Those pickups were stock in that guitar in 2013. My tele also has the tummy cut in the back like a Strat. Good luck with your search and thanks for your questions!

      What advice would you give someone to play like this? What would be your top material to practice. Am very familiar with major and minor pentatonic. I can’t figure out what I’m missing.

    • @guitareveryone
      @guitareveryone  7 месяцев назад

      @brianeldridge1760 that’s a tough question. Probably listening to more of your favourite artists and learning as many licks as you can. The more you learn and store in your memory the more you can learn how to construct your own bag of licks and tricks and most importantly to practice joining them together through chord changes. I confess that I need to practice much more these days. It’s easy to loose that creativity unless you keep at it.
      I get inspired by listening to great country legends and session greats such as Vince Gill, Albert Lee, Steve Wariner, Brent Mason, James Burton and Reggie Young just to name some. I will never be able to play like my guitar heroes but through inspiration and frustration we will all become better guitar players. And as we all know the guitar is a TOUGH instrument to play. Playing along with backing tracks really shows our weaknesses as players….it definitely helps us tighten up our playing skills.
      I wish I could be of more help but I hope this advice helps some. I may post some videos in the future months illustrating joining licks and phrases over chord changes. All the best. Cheers!
