When you build your shower block, maybe put an outdoor shower sprayer so you can spray Maggie off. Also have to compliment you how you take setbacks. All the work on the chassis only to have it rust again overnight.... and all the concrete work, only now to have to smash it. Bravo that you've not let the challenges get you down!
Thank you, yes a warm water outdoor shower would be good for maggie, she currently gets a cold hose off, she doesn't love it.
I love your honesty in relation to a few mistakes on the journey in your build, you’ve saved so much money by doing practically all the work yourself. I have nothing but admiration and wish you all the luck in your build of your tiny little house 👍
Thank you! Everyday's a learning day ☺ so we are happy to share it all! Thanks for the support, excited for our build 🥳
Most rust conversion coatings stipulate not to remove all the rust. They work by converting the rust into a hard compound that acts as a shield for future rust.
We were advised to do it this way to remove the bottom layer of paint so we could remove the rust from the root 😃
@@CampOutWest Okay, you have to go with the advice given. Good luck on the future build.
Don't if you've done it, but putting waxoyl inside the tubes of the chassis might be a good idea, stop it from rusting inside out! Best wishes.
Thats a must,.
Could be worth welding covers onto them after just make it is a weather tight as possible.
@@JamJarzz yes, great idea! Thanks :)
@brassedoff2437 Thanks for the suggestion. One of our neighbours in the village actually does lanogard (which is similar) so we are going to book him in to do the inside of the chassis 🤞
@@CampOutWest Lanogard! Even better! 💪
I was holding my breath watching you trying to push that chassis onto the cement slab. 😯 Really good overhead shots too.
So glad we decided to fly the drone up for it :)
I'm a bit confused. A rust converter should be painted directly onto the rusted surface where it turns it into a surface suitable for painting / priming, no need for all that grinding and sanding. 😃
Anyway keep up the good work, enjoyable to watch, as always!
We were advised to do it this way to remove the bottom layer of paint so we could remove the rust from the root 😃
@@CampOutWestYes. But when you had to go back and redo it cause it was rusting again, just painting the converter over it would work. The converter chemically turns oxidised metal back to sound metal. It wont do anything to ground away rust that is already back to bare metal. Grind the paint back to get at the rust. Treat the rust. Paint the whole thing. Waxoyl and forget about it for years. Good Luck guys. Just keep going. ❤
Get a tow hitch connected to the front of the Landy. This is how the professionals move the caravans around. I used to live near a dealer and it was funny, watching the caravans, moving around on the road and attached to the front of a Land Rover. You have much more control and it is easier to see what is happening.
Not sure wether the landrover is staying so won't be adding anything to it at the moment, i have seen tow bars fitted to the front of alot of the landrover wolf military spec vehicles for the same purpose, sounds like a good idea.
Cant believe how lucky you are, The landrover started on the key!!! 😂
😂😂😂😂 it's always hit and miss
Haha her stencilled number -- she def was a COW to move :-) Great job you two!
😂
What a great adventure you guys are on. I never miss a posting
Thanks Paulo 🙂
Oh bless Maggie was joining in doing the meditation,
Your attention to detail is incredible, no cutting corners. What a great work ethic you have. Wonderful watching.
Thanks for the support Vicky :) glad you are enjoying!
My anxiety maxed out when I saw red, white and mixed coloured clothes in that washing machine! My wife would KILL me if I did that…not that I ever have…honest! 🤣
I would definitely spray rust converter in the accessible areas of box-section and use some cavity wax to protect it…those untreated surfaces will rust the frame from the inside out.
Good luck guys, looking forward to seeing it all come together 👍🏻
🤣🤣🤣 we used to be really particular about what colours we washed together, but it was getting so exspenive 🤣 thanks for the tip Gav, great idea to spray it inside. Jon going to spray the rust converter inside and then our neighbour in the village does lanoguard, so we are going to get him to do that inside for extra protection
That twin axle makes it really hard to move the chassis by hand...well done.
Great to see progress on the chassis. I felt for you both when you’d spent all that time grinding and painting the rust converter on only to be set back by the rain. When you were both pushing the chassis onto the concrete pad I was willing it to bump up over the edge to get it on. Never defeated, you persevered and painted it! Great job. Maggie was working her piece to camera wonderfully by being super cute and sleepy. Really enjoyed watching, can’t wait for the next instalment. 😊Dave Birmingham
Maggies yawn was just the cutest thing! Love that we have so much of her on camera to watch back for years to come 🧡
Don't forget you need to chain your caravan/tiny home down, set it on concrete blocks with damp proof membrane on top and remove the wheels! Keep it up, your video's are great!
Thanks Matt :) we had the chains arrive last week :) all to come. Thanks for the support and great advice!
Hi Emilie and Jon. Thanks for allowing us to see the progress. Building, whatever it may be, is a learning experience. I am glad you have relaxation time also.
Thanks Colleen 🧡
Emily & Jon, I enjoy your videos very much! As always, I love your hats!
Cheers from USA.👍
Thanks so much Leigh :)
Good luck Guys with getting in for Christmas. Glad you do not appear to be to disheartened, life is about learning from mistakes. Your experiences will only make you stronger and your beautiful part of the world better. 😊
😀
I hope you do manage to get in your tiny home by Christmas and I do hope the weather will play ball so you can achieve this. I wish you the very best and look forward to the journey. Have a lovely day.
I may be telling you what you are already aware of but bilthammer also produce an s50 product that you can spray into box sections and it will prevent rust from forming on the inside. I have used it on several classic cars and it has worked brilliantly. Thanks for making the series thoroughly enjoying it.
You always have a smile on your faces regardless of what's thrown at you, weather etc, you two are an inspiration to anyone thinking of doing a build. I'm looking forward to future video's guy's. Keep up the brilliant work.
Thanks so much David 😊
Just a couple thoughts on what tools might be helpful. A winch, some bottle jacks, anything you can contrive to not push your bodies too much. My hands, knees, hips, shoulders all remind me of how much I simply pushed, pulled, lifted, etc… all by myself rather than thinking of a few ways to minimize the strain I was putting on my body.
With all my might, I was pushing that chassis right along with you. So happy we were able to get it on the cement pad. Whew! You both are amazing. I can't wait to see the tiny house go up.
Thank you! We thought it would have been a lot easier to move into place haha but glad we did it 😁 excited for what is next 🥳
DPM Screwfix item 47163 totally waterproof , Ponce your insulation is in and floor down cover with this . Then build walls etc on top of it with it still in place , cut away after roof on .
'love to see people making their dream come true against odds! Great work, greetings, best wishes from Norway.
Waxoyl the chassis - it’s what is used on classic car chassis.
Yes, we have someone in our village that does lanoguard, so we are going to book him in to do the inside of the chassis and underneath 😀
I really enjoy these. You guys seem so genuine and it's teaching me how a lot of things are made by hand.
Thank you! 🙂
Hopefully someone can lend you a gazebo for building in this weather ! Good luck. Loving your work so far.
Thanks Mike! We think we are going to try and makeshift something
Love your choice of Drew music, can not believe it is a year
We love his music too!
I love watching all the progress you're making with your campground. I can't wait to see you building your home.
Thanks Dorothy, we are looking forward to it too.
Lesson learned #1: primer (& rust converter) is a POROUS base coat for the paint, it's made to allow paint to stick to it very well & paint has stuff in it so it will be the durable weather & UV resistant topcoat.
Lesson learned #2: you were fighting the jockey wheel, it was keeping you from pushing down on the front to raise the back wheels off the ground as you did once you got the back wheels up on the slab & pushed down raising the front wheels. 4 wheels & nothing on it makes a big see-saw/teeter-totter.
Good job!
I've become so fascinated by this series and seeing your journey from an old overgrown campsite to a beautiful piece of land! Love the raised beds :)
Wishing you both and Maggie the best! Especially with the weather as bad as it at the moment :)
As for what i do to relax, I'm a big story writer so I write short stories based on video games, and whatever I can think of! This then allows me to have dreams based on those stories, so I'm completely shutting the world out as I sleep
Love this, what a unique way to relax and help you sleep
@@CampOutWest thank you! I have a range of mental health issues as well like PTSD, Depression and Anxiety so I find sleep very tough, so my stories help me relax and express my problems onto paper, and to block the world out as I sleep.
Thank you for your videos and sharing your journeys with us! Love both your energies and how you always tackle the biggest tasks with a bright smile :)
We are busy renovating a steel boat ( YT vids pending) so all this steel rust treating, sanding, grinding, flashing over, more sanding, prepping & finally painting looks very familiar (including the weather never playing along) 😂
Keep us posted on your renovation! Sending some sunshine your way 😁
Lovely to see the Tiny House underway - and you being thorough with the de-rusting and protection. Look forward to the journey ahead - and good to learn on the way, even if it gives extra work on undoing the concrete founds for the shower block. Keep going.
We'd rather over do it now with the prep than have to try and fix it in the near future from underneath the cabin. Thanks for following along on our journey.
Dead Cat Motorcycles beeeeeeyyyyy!
I'm just a poser 😂
Hi guys, what about the inside of the metal frame? You can already see the rust forming inside the box sections, with cars you would use wax oil or similar compound, spray it using a long lance right inside the box sections. Good luck with the build.
Yay! We cheered when you got it on the slab! Well done guys, it looks super heavy 💛 cannot wait to see the build of your tiny home 😊
Diolch guys 🥰
Thank you so much for your latest instalment, been checking every night for over 3 weeks now, what a relief I got my COW fix tonight. Good luck guys give us some more, Im considering building one myself.🤩
Glad you enjoyed the video, what are considering buying? a chassis? or a run down old campsite? 😂 what have you glot planned?
@@CampOutWest Hi Emilie & Jon, I am looking to replace my old van with a chassis build, I am on a private site in Scarisbrick west lancs, 38 vans. Im dismanteling the van like you did yours, then getting a chassis in like yours. Going to build out of insulated units like you see on the large business units and supermarkets, metal skins both sides with 40mm rigid insulation in them. Im planing on building a 8x10ft shed first as a dummy run, to see how i handle the materials before the big build, Ive seen sheds built out of it on youtube.
To old to purchase a site now as you did, Im to old (64) would of loved that oppertunity, but also I couldnt move away from my 3 beutiful grandaughters,.
So good luck to you both on your adventure, I will be in touch for more info in the future.
Kind regards
Steve
👍😇
Always watching all the way from Jamaica.
Thanks for the support 🙂
Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme!!! Like many others I was really willing that chassis on to the concrete & could feel your pride when you got it there! You two are so inspirational, and your honesty & resilience is brilliant! Good luck on the next phase, makes my day when I see your latest instalment appear! Have a great weekend Emilie & Jon. Marcus x
Thankyou, glad your enjoying the video's, we're excited to get building now, i have a nail gun arriving today and 4000 nails 😂
@@CampOutWestwhat could possibly go wrong! 😂 have fun!!!
Hi I live in Alberta Canada, with regards to your floor lay some 10 Mil (polyethene) vapor barrier down then lay the flooring on top. Most houses in Alberta are timber framed. You can also do the vapor barrier on the inside walls and the ceiling. Check out some Canadian house building videos on YT. This is what is done in Canada. Regards Chris Mitchell
Looking forward to this project evolving!
Thanks both! Excited to see how the stone barn comes along too! Such an amazing space!
Great progress and we all learn from our mistakes good you have people watching that can give you tips 😉
Very grateful for this RUclips community supporting us along the way :)
Well done you two!
Misstakes are learning curves.
I take my heat off to you doing so much by yourselves.
It's very exciting and I am looking forward to watching your little home come together.
I held me breath and pushed along with you getting the chassis up and over the edge of the slab. Even did some deep breathing while the washing was going. lol
Much love from Down Under 🇦🇺 ❤
Thanks Karen, glad you're enjoying the video's, have you downloaded the headspace app? it's free for 60 days and has so many features to it, nice background music, podcasts, guided meditations and the sleep casts aswell, worth trying for free.
I would get small sized roller, one does corners with the brush. It seems like that would save a lot of time. Here's hoping for a bit less rain! 💧 🖤
Thanks Polly! Sunny day today so starting work on the floor framing! So exiting
The restoration couple have just finished building a family home with 2 chasies looks good what can be achieved
That drone is so cute!
It's so great that you are on to your tiny house build. It would be so great to see you in it by Christmas, it's going to be a massive push for you to achieve it but we have all seen how hard you work. Could you build a temporary roof (tarp) over the tiny house to enable you to work on it in the bad weather, maybe secure one side to the big tree?
Thanks Ched! Hoping we have a good bit of dry weather to make the building process a bit easier. Yes, Jon is keen to build some type of undercover area to allow us to work outside all weathers. Very excited!
At last the build, how exciting, I bet you are over the moon xx
finally 🤩🤩
I could have watched for twice the time it was so enjoyable. Perhaps, given the constant rain, it might be a good idea to build a shelter over the tiny house similar to the ones built over yachts. Check out the early Tally Ho videos or recent Sailing Magic Carpet videos for what I mean. Looking forward to the tiny house build. All the best from Australia 😊
Thanks Daisy! So pleased you enjoy watching 💗 thanks for the suggestion 😍 I will look at Tally Ho and Sailing Magic Carpet! xxx
Thank God you are 2 to do all jobs
Great to see that it worked out in the end. When it was rained on the first time it must have been so "rustrating"!
🤣
Oh man.... I could totally empathize with how you must have felt, but I admire how you deal with these little obstacles and don't let them taint your mood for too long. 😊
As a Technical manager of a lodge manufacturer, I look forward to seeing how you approach this build. We use UE chassis too, so that’s a great start!! Good luck!
Hi Darren, feel free to chip in with any advise, we would welcome it, what brand do you work for, would love to have a look at them. We are trying to decide on the makeup of the flooring. Current plan is, chassis, house wrap, 2x6 timber frame. Then inside the framing, rodent mesh, 100mm pir insulation. Then on top of it all, Egger protect 22mm t and g board all glued with pu waterproof glue. Then onto the wall framing.
@@CampOutWest I work for Pathfinder Homes. Floor build up sounds good. Are you installing any water pipe work? We run this within the floor section within mineral wool insulation.
@@darrenandtinasale1502Love the petrichor lodge, thats the sort of thing we want to build in a few years as our forever house. Do you put a membrane under the timber frame flooring in your lodges? How much insulation do your cabins have? in the floor, the walls, the roof. For our floor we don't want to run the pipes in the floor, will be bringing in one water pipe into the cabin with a heat trace wire on it then from where the boiler is we will run the pipes internally behind service panels in the wall and inside the kitchen cabinets. They won't have far to travel like in a full lodge and want them all on the warm side of the full insulation if that makes sense.
@@CampOutWest The Petrichor used reclaimed timber internally and externally. yes we use a membrane similar to a dpm under the floor frame. We use 140mm of 0.032 mineral wool in the floor and walls with 200mm of 0.032 in the roof. As long as you achieve the minimum u values from BS3632 2015. The new BS3632 2023 has just been published with new lower uvalues in floor but there’s a 12 month transition to comply. The more insulation the better.
@@CampOutWest you may already know of the Restoration couples YT channel. They built a lodge on site, although a bit bigger. They did a great job of explaining the build process which is very similar to many lodge manufacturers such as ourselves.
I cheered when you finally pushed that beast of a chassis onto its platform. Exciting times!!
🥳🥳 we are so excited. Thank you!
Well done guys❤
thanks dolores 😃
You might consider putting two frames together to create a double wide. Not sure if specks or regulation's allow that. Good job. What a learning curve. 😊😊😊
Thanks Joan, we are going to do that with the 3rd one we build. The first two will be smaller as they will be little holiday cabins for guests :)
Suggestion:add some or Weld 4 Jacks on all 4 side (either bottle Jacks or Sissor Jacks) to make the This tiny home more Stable when working ON it.. cause right now its standing only on the wheels.
Thanks for the tip Ed! We will be working on making it more stable before we start the build :) thanks for the advice!
You guys really are living my dream. Over the moon for you!!! What a lot of people don’t see so much is the hard work that goes on behind the hard work 😂. Your positive, can-do attitudes are infectious. Keep it up!!
Thanks David! Very excited for what's next 🥳🥳 fingers crossed for some dry weather to continue! Thanks for the support 🥳
The corrosion process has already started on the inside of the tubing it's going to rust from the inside out. You need to spray a rust converter inside the tubing then spray a good coat of quality primer inside and finish with a good enamel paint. This will help for long term protection
need to get a spraying lance for this, we plan to do it, don't worry
Love watching you guys you are doing so well, I can imagine the current weather is depressing for you, keep focused you will get there. Looking forward to the Tiny House build and understanding all the costs.
Thanks Gary! Hoping we can get some dry weather for the next few weeks so we can crack on 🥳
Love your chemistry & energy.
Remember ’every day is a school day’ making mistakes is how we learn.
Completely agree :) thanks Bally!
It looks like investing in some big heavy tarpaulins could save you a lot of work, a little prep now saves a lot of time later on (pressure washing the pad, rust proofing the chassis etc) could keep all your wood dry when you no longer need them for the 'main' projects. Anyway, absolutely love this series and I've got my dad hooked too, he's near Wrexham so he'll definitely be making a trip once you're all up and running
Note to self, watch the full video before commenting 😅😅
I think your comment is fine
Thanks KCC ☺ We are going to build some type of undercover area to help protect us from the rain :D
Storm warning for West Wales!
Feels like we are in a washing machine in the caravan today, it's wild out there 🤣
Hey guys great video, funnily enough I work as a freelance designer and technician, for a small professional group making tiny hopes just like this, we also buy our chassis from UE. I would highly recommend blocked / getting end caps for the chassis steels to stop insects and wasps etc, also don’t forget adding insect mesh when installing your cladding!
Hi, that sounds like a great job, would love to see the stuff you design, our design changes by the day, we know our window layout and floor layout but externally we are undecided yet.
As dissapointing as it is to do something again I am so glad it was pointed out at the time. I was one of those that noticed and commented. Very difficult to point out a mistake when you are working so hard all of the time, but this would have been much worse if you had to take the shower block down at a later stage. Congratulations on the tiny house finally sitting in it's forever home. Well done to you both.
We completely agree, it would have been more work if we had of carried on and then tried to build on top of them 😅 as they wouldn't have been strong enough to support the weight of the building. Excited to be onto the tiny house build!
More Power to you two!!
Thanks Mark
I've got a tiny home. It's made of nylon, weighs 2kg, cost 200€, and I can move it wherever I want. Some weirdos call it a tent, though.
Where do you live in your tiny home Danny?
Well done guys. Sometimes we can get side tracked and paralysis of analysis sets in. So, as they say measure twice cut once and don't be afraide to ask for help if you gets stuck or are unsure. best wishes Paul
Thanks so much Paul 🙌 Great advice!
You are doing such an amazing job. Be proud. You deserve it. So happy for you. Love your incredible channel.
Thank you so much Deb ❤ so pleased you are enjoying it! We feel so lucky we get to do this!
Yay! I'm looking forward to the tiny house build ❤️ bet it will look fantastic. So excited for you both. You're so patient and methodical 😊 xxx
Thanks Frankie! We are working on the floor today, so excited 🥳
I miss you two saying to each other after you completed a project Happy? I thought that was super cute.
Don't worry, we still say it :)
So thrilled for you guys!
Thanks so much Dara ❤
Just love your videos! I was so gutted for you when the rust formed overnight and, like everyone else, was cheering you along when rolling the chassis onto the pad…and you did it 🎉 so inspired by this build and taking mental notes for when we hopefully do our own one day!
Thanks Alana, the rust was annoying 🤣, glad we got it sorted though, was probably a job we should have prioritised in the summer. Where are you planning on building?
Love this channel
Thanks 😃
Hats off to the great work you have been doing absolute pleasure to see a hard working couple working towards a dream which you both have. Thanks for the great videos ❤
Thanks Tony ❤ glad you enjoyed 🎉
You really need a small tractor with a front loader and whatever attachments you need in the back, like a lawnmower for all the work you have on you'r property.
After you used it one's you know what I mean.
Keep up the good work/swedish fan.
We have looked at all manner of machinery but funds are going towards the cabin build at the moment, have had some quotes for a compact tractor with loader and flail and we don't have that sort of money at the moment, looked at the used market and prices still really high for old kit. Been toying with the idea of selling the landrover to go towards a tractor.
Worth noting : Galvanised coated chassis is better. cool watch
We looked for a Galvanised one last year but couldn't find anyone that did it, as that was our preference. UE Chassis's where we got this from have since started selling Galvanised ones so that will be our choice for the next one we buy 🥳
We love you two guys. It's fairly obvious that you are 'beginner' but you're 'having a go'. Keep at it. Very impressed at what you have achieved so far. We look forward to following you in your adventure. This is simply fabulous.
We are very much beginners, ask me anything about photography and lighting i i know what i'm on about, building, it's all google and search youtube like crazy for each stage of the project 😂
Hi Guys, just wanted to say thank you for your channel and to let you know how you have both inspired my wife and I to create our own channel too. keep up the great work you are doing and if you are ever in S/W France look us up. Cheers, Mark & Cath
We've just subscribed! Excited to see how you get on 😃
LIVE AND LEARN..... ITS OK....ROLL WITH THE WAVES OF LIFE... DESTINATIONS IN SIGHT👍👍👍

Hi you two 🎉 oh so pleased to see the start of your new home coming along so well. You both work so hard. Love watching and can’t wait to see the next video. Hope the weather is kinder for you. Tony ❤️🇬🇧 xx
Thanks so much Tony! Praying for the dry weather 🎉 xx
Brilliant stuff. Wishing you every success.
Thanks so much 🧡
I always look forward to your updates, one step closer to your dream home. Watching your videos always makes me want to move off the grid and grow my own fruits and veg too!
Thanks so much Charleigh ❤ excited for the spring to start growing more veg 😃
Thank you for an inside view of your process. You have wonderful energy.
Thanks for watching and the support with our project 🙂
Love watching your progress you work so hard and admire you both 😊
Thanks Mike ❤
So excited to see how this turns out guys! Well done xx
thanks guys! Can't believe we are doing it 🥰🥳 xxx
I love watching your videos, hi from Australia 👋
Thanks so much Jo ❤
Having seen the lovely job you did on your temporary caravan home, so looking forward to seeing your tiny house build on completion. You both deserve what you have been working so hard to achieve. I get such enjoyment watching your amazing plans coming to fruition, sending positive vibes.
Thanks so much Vivienne, we can't wait to see it come to life!
So good to hear from you both! I enjoy watching your videos! Take care!

It's getting more exciting! Thanks for sharing the ups and downs with us!
Thanks Jenae! The sun is shining today and we are framing the floor🥳
Following your journey with great interest. Nothing you can do about the weather, keep up the good work.
You should see it today 😅 feels like we are going to get blown away haha!
Another milestone guys. Well done!
Thanks Ridley, so excited for what's to come 🎉
Exciting for you starting work on the tiny house. Glad the rain finally stopped. I’ve downloaded headspace to try… although watching you paint and watching it dry was very relaxing (for me sitting in the warm) 🤣 xx
can't believe we are finally starting the house build! Doesn't feel real 😄 ah so pleased you are giving headspace a go! Let us know how you find it 🧡
I look forward to every single one of your videos🤪🤪 you guys have come sooooo far and I’ve got my fingers & toes crossed that you’ll be in your gorgeous tiny home by Christmas in front of your little log burner🎄🫶🏻
thank you!!! ❤ very excited for the next few weeks and to see how we get on! xxx
I am so proud of you both! You've done so much hard work! Keep going :)
Thank you so much 😊❤
So exciting to see you making great progress.
