Here's how i've explained it to some teenagers I know: telling young women not to post suggestive content because there are predators isn't blaming them for being attacked in the shark-infested pool, it's warning them that there are sharks before they jump in. • @lizsmith1018
      @lizsmith1018 9 месяцев назад +42

@@iiii12345 “it just looks like you’re tryna be young”
I think you proved the issue with the whole thing by that sentence alone. Did you ever think about why people say revealing clothing is for the youth, and get weirded out by “older people” wearing the same thing? It’s because youth is sexualized, especially for women, and anyone above the ages of 25-28 is seen as decrepit waste already. The beauty standards - for women especially- is pedophilic, which should never be seen as sexy. A mature body wearing revealing clothing should be considered the norm for being sexy far more than minors wearing the same thing.
And you may read this reply and think I’m trying to police younger women, I’m not. The issue is a societal problem, in which “beauty” should not automatically mean “youth”. Policing ANYONE’S body won’t solve that problem the way society thinks it would. This will be a difficult issue to tackle, but not one that should be ignored.

@@mmeggnnit’s not. Producers for small children’s shows will ALWAYS say their show is for “all ages” because they want to harbor a place of childlike wonder and absolute acceptance that can be opened up and enjoyed occasionally in a moment of nostalgia sometimes as an adult, and to make older children less ashamed of enjoying it. Like Mr. Rogers. He would tell you his show was for all ages because Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood was a show that wanted to create a safe space and it would be kind of mean for a character like Mr Rogers to suddenly turn around and exclude adults. But we all know Mr. Rogers Neighborhood was produced for children. But more specifically in the case of Bluey they’re talking about the fact that Bluey was also made for parents to watch with their kids so they can learn together how to problem solve as a family. The demographic of the show is for preschoolers. That’s a fact. But it’s not bad if you watch it. Just don’t. Idk don’t get weird about it.

Kids aren’t often treated like actual human beings who possess thoughts and feelings. Any thought a child expresses is dismissed and not taken seriously, and this leads to them wanting to be “treated like an adult”. Of course, this is not the only reason/problem, just something I’ve noticed.

@@estefyhengja "Without know where they are headed"... This hit me harder that it should. I don't like diving into things headlessly, yet that's what I exactly do most of the time without realizing. The realization of the lack of direction and thinking hit me for a while. I'm thankful for deciding to watch this video. Diving into the unknown is one thing sure, but diving into the unknown knowing there are possibility bombs in the sea is another.
(No one need to read this, but if anyone does, the rest of this will be a rant and the thought process of someone that felt like they need to mature quickly and therefore will be an absolute contradiction that may or may not make any sense whatsoever. I'd like to see someone decode my thoughts for me as I'm not the best at it or maybe any tips cause I need them if I'm honest.)
Just doing without understanding really makes me feel uncomfortable. I'd rather live knowing that I'm doing something stupid rather than feel like I'm smart enough to know fully about something but in reality I don't.
As a minor reading this I feel like I shouldn't be here especially after watching the video. Maybe I'm just tired of people overly shielding me from these types of topics just because "oh you're too young"? I understand that they want to protect me from the harsh reality, but it feels like it would be more dangerous to just go straight into a field without knowing the existence of mines on them the moment I've "grown up". It would protect me more if I had gained at least some proper insight of these things.
I've been the type to ask "why?" to people on why certain things are like that and they just avoid the question. I just don't like the feeling of being brainwashed due to my lack of knowledge and understanding about something and me just... Obeying the thought process. What if something's wrong and I'm just the next person repeating it? If there's no concrete reason other than "just because", why should I fully trust to do what someone else does? I need guidance and maybe a bit of knowledge to at least protect myself, not some just because.
Alright, I get I'm too young to know this, why am I too young to know this then? Should I avoid it? Is it mostly good or bad? There's probably a fine line that I can't see right? At least a proper introduction would be nice instead of you just throwing it out there and leave me hanging on why it's like that. Even just telling me that there is a reason, but you can't say the reasoning due to this or that is good enough. At least I'm aware of the topic and when the time comes I can know more about it.
I think this explains some of the thoughts that go around my head. Because I feel clueless and curious about what someone has mentioned, I want to know more about that thing. The only way to know about that thing is to be older, and so I'm excited for when you gain the right to know this or that. Because I know something, I feel like I'll know everything because that's all you know that exists, when there's something more. Getting older involves maturity a lot of times so I'll try and get mature quickly. I'll act because you feel like you need to do so because of what I know. That's probably just part of the truth though, I know there's probably a lot more behind that.
This is rant is ironic though if I'm honest. The video talks about people acting like grown-ups and that they should slow down and stay like a child if they still can, yet here I am... A minor trying to know more about these types of things and feeling like they've matured even if I have a long way to go and I'm not really mature whatsoever. I need to slow down, heh.
I'm not even sure if this is either a responsibility to know more about it, a necessity or whatever. I don't think it is any of those though. Maybe I'm just a knowledge-starved person after discovering these types of things exist. Maybe I'm just brainwashed by the constant push of modern society moving forward these days. I know it's not my job to know about these things after all. I'm thinking I'm just feel unsafe with everything at this rate so that's why I feel the need to mature quicker. "You're unsafe when you don't know anything" is probably one of the things I need to work on along with "I need to know everything" as the possible roots. Not a 100% sure, but it's worth a shot to see how it goes.
Guess I'm a walking contradiction. I don't know any better than what I understand and that's fine. I can't just correct any of these things to a healthy extent overnight anyways especially when they've become a habit/mentality. I can't undo any of this work I've done to try and mature either, even then I'm thankful for it happening. Just glad I grew up a somewhat decent person.
I'm just rambling at this point so I'll leave it here. If anyone reads it thanks it means a lot to me. I'll just sort myself out for a moment... Take care...!

Even over the last couple of years, the natural abstractness/gaps in development of maturity and interests through the "tween" and teen years have been obliterated by conflicting societal pressures and physical/emotional standards skyrocketing upwards. The actual stage that our minds are in often no longer matches the maze of expectations in our culture, and the various ways in which one our age can be "intelligent," "confident," or "creative" have been reduced, diminished, and matured beyond our scope. I have been told that i'm immature compared to my brother, only because I trust the passage of time and don't want to throw away my interests immediately. My apologies for the lengthy comment!!!!

This is why I appreciate movies like Turning Red, where the protagonists are just middle school girls figuring out life and trying to have fun rather than the now seemingly immediate transition from child to ‘adult’. Yeah, the were cringe, yeah, the fashion sucked, but that’s how it should be for girls that age, even if this was a movie set in 2002 rather than now. I just recently turned 17 and while I didn’t participate in a lot of stereotypical things growing up, it’s still so weird to see girls thinking they’re so mature at the age of 14. The cringey preteen phase is almost necessary imo, bc it teaches you character growth rather than this immediate jump into a more free adulthood culture without understanding why adults can have that freedom.

I think opinions vary when talking about “revealing” clothes because it all depends on what different people consider “revealing” so I can’t disagree with you there although I will say, the way you see someone doesn’t mean that’s what they are it’s a p.o.v. I really want to address the last thing you said only having to wear dresses to look “cute”, why must a tween appear cute to you to be able to wear a dress? From the mini dresses i’ve seen they seem age appropriate with maybe shorts or something underneath. Dresses have always been a little kid/early tween oriented anyway.

I feel like the hardest thing for teens isn’t comparing themselves to adults they see on Instagram, but it’s comparing themselves to other teens that have more ideal features/figures. Seeing someone on TikTok that is close to, if not the same age as you getting praised for there looks is hard to watch. Most tweens/teens in modern day have TikTok and the app follows a pretty strict beauty algorithm that is hard to escape. 13 year olds feeling the need to sexually liberate themselves are mostly the outcome of seeing these people being praised and having the urge for that validation

Like when the 97% stat came out, I can’t even begin to explain how awful I felt, and then guilt compounded it because 97% of women have been sexually harassed, why am I upset that I *haven’t* been? I think it’s also complicated because I’m autistic and don’t necessarily follow trends or social expectations, and then feel bad about that cos I’m not performing femininity right, plus I’m asexual so I really don’t ever want to have sex or anything even close... but why aren’t men sexualising me, I must be ugly. i was at target with my boyfriend the other day, im 24 and i was looking at the swimsuits. Some younger girls came by looking at the same swimsuit and one of them kept going “omg i want to go to miami so bad id love to be flown out” and i was blown. the other girl looked at her and said “yeah miami is cool but you’re literally 14” I knew a girl who became a dancer at 18 then flew to miami with a 50+ year old man because she thought she was getting “flown out” and she literally thought he wouldnt do anything. When they got to the hotel he pretended that he accidentally only booked one room, when she flipped out he left, leaving her alone. She barely had money, a nice uber driver set her up with a different hotel and helped her set up a flight home and get in contact with her parents. It couldve turned out so wrong. It scares me that minors are thinking this is okay, because theyre looking up to influencers who are putting up a front and hiding the reality of their situation. you only see the glitz and glamour bits

I wish posts made by influencers came with more warnings and messages like how they are obliged by Instagram's terms and conditions to mention whether their post is sponsored. So many people want to be influencers and live their lives without realizing that most of what they post is fake and most of the products, clothes, bags, shoes, etc. they have are just sponsored, gifted or even rented. Not to mention normalizing the "sugar baby" lifestyle. I don't mean that there is anything abnormal with people who choose (or are forced due to circumstances) to get into sex work, I will never judge someone who is honest about what they do and do what they can to stay afloat and/or to provide to their families. The problem is that I've seen so many sugar babies go on talk shows and social media platforms promoting what they do as just a "simple, easy" way to make money. They leave out the fact that sexual favors are done in exchange for their money and lifestyle and so young girls will grow up looking up to them and thinking that they could do the same thing because all those "sugar daddies" want is just good companionship when, in fact, it's darker than that.

The fear of men is understandable in this kind of situation, and I promise there's nothing wrong with you. I really reccomend talking to an adult you trust about this (I had no one like that, but there are many other ways to get help, like in my case crisis hot lines for minors), it helps a bunch, and helps to recover from the trauma🧡 important thing to realize is that as fu*ked up as our world is sometimes, there are good people too, and I promise you it will get better. Just be a kid, pretty much anyone now is younger than me (I'm 17 now) and I'd tell them to not give into the pressure and go follow their passions because being a child doesn't last forever. These past few years haven't been the best for me and now I'm literally a year away from being an adult and I'm not ready for that responsibility.

Honey you are not a loser, you are a CHILD. I'm pushing 30 and one of the things I like most in the world are toys! I love looking through toy websites or listings on eBay and seeing how they are designed. I find them so cute and fun to look at, touch and play with. You should never, ever be shamed for doing what you love, especially "child" things when you are a child; putting age restrictions on things (except ofc adult matters that are not safe for kids, like sexualization) is a cruel social invention. I know it's rough out there, the world is full of bullies and the internet amplifies it. But never give up on your freedom, your childhood and the joy of doing what you love. It is your life!
