the first time i ever encountered this wonderful group was this very clip from countdown, i was hooked and was lucky enough to see this line up of the band play live. The Adelaide Festival Theatre in 76 when they supported Ayers Rock, the place was filled for the Enz but not after the intermission, it was a brilliant performance of the Mental Notes Album but i cannot remember if this song was in the set list, a gem of a tune
Just discovering this "pre-Frenzy" material. I dig it. Reminds me of Sensational Alex Harvey, Tubes, Sparks, Oingo Boingo, XTC at the time. Each were unique & quirky but worked in the same fertile, creative genre of 70s alt-rock. What a blessing that these documents survive for those of us who missed it originally. Phil, I never knew you but now I love your work.
and the live vocal i think sounds way better than the official singles leslie speaker mix and this version way better the the The Beginning Of The Enz compilations re-recording
Split enz cures all! Their music always puts me in a happy good mood! Especially the Phil Judd Era ❤😻
Somebody should give these treasures the goodly remastering and clean up they deserve. Your the best Phil!
Brandon
Any day is a great day with the Enz when Phil was with them! Brilliant clip like all the early Enz 🎸🥁🎹❤
