    You can count me in the camp of really enjoying your reviews when you are really excited. As an aside, best part of my trip to the UK in 2019; having access to blends that are hard to come by in the states. Worst part of my trip to the UK in 2019; paying the exhorbitant costs that people have to pay for tobacco in the UK.

    The band aid smell you're referring to are phenols, or more specifically TCP (tri-chloro-phenols) that have that 'medicinal' smell and taste. A lot of the heavily peated scotches, from Islay especially, have this in their flavor profile. Some people hate it but some of us absolutely love it! You really should try sometime if you get a chance.

    Since you've emptied two tins in quick succession before making a video of the contents (Samuel Gawith Hansom Flake and now Germain's Brown Flake) it might be advisable to make a new rule for yourself on opening a tin: OPEN TIN, FILM CONTENTS!

    Dude, it's a special treat even in the UK! I maybe find it in stock once a year, if that. Don't know about plasters!?! but I think it has a new world cigar 'barnyard' aroma.

    I've seen a review from a fella who emailed Germain and got a response. They say it is 100% Virginia leaf. And since it's air-cured VA, it'll definitely feel like some burley in there, despite there not being any. I haven't had this blend yet, but there's some other blends with air cured VAs and they're dark and heavy. Stuff like GH Brown Bogie and Dark Flake Unscented (some of that may be dark fired VAs but there's air cured VA as well).
    One of these days I'll track down a tin. I love the dark VAs.

    Yep, I feel you Bradley. This is my favourite Virginia flake that I can't get. Next time I'm back in the UK, I'll be buying a 250g pack. Rich Dark Flake and Special Latakia Flake are some I'm sure you'd enjoy.

    Band-aids are iodine and iodine is “peaty”. Many Scotches and even pipe tobacco are peaty. Like you, I describe that essence as Band-aids😀

    Do Americans just never buy tobacco from overseas? Maybe it’s because here in australia it’s either impossible or prohibitively expensive to get much pipe tobacco locally so I buy practically every tin I have from either the US, UK or Germany and ship it here.
    Germains is pretty easy to get in the UK. It sells out but you won’t be waiting longer than a few weeks at most to find it again and when it’s there, it isn’t selling out in 3 hours like it does in the US so you don’t have to be Johnny on the spot.
    Brown flake, rich dark flake and special Latakia flake are my favourites from the germains line - they’re all outstanding.

    Bradley, regarding the composition of the blend...I would say there is Burley in it. So, why do they say it's all Virginia? Not at all trying to be coy about it, but Burley IS a Virginia tobacco, southwestern Virginia, down near the Tennessee border. The tobacco houses in England referred to all tobacco grown in North America as "Virginia" for many years. Great review!

    • @tombrown1898
      @tombrown1898 Год назад

      My grandfather was born in 1897 and grew up on a Dark tobacco farm in Appomattox County, Virginia. He said that it was cured two ways: air and flue. The stuff was used for chewing and for cheap cigars, primarily. It was Burley, but was known as "Dark." My hometown, Lynchburg VA, held the world's largest Dark tobacco auction. Granddaddy said it was so strong, it would "take the top of your head off." He didn't lose the top of his head, but the stuff took all the hair off it!

    No it is not easily obtainable in the UK that i can assure you .Sometimes you can find in the most exclusive tobacconist like JJFox (this was/is the tobacconist of Curchill /King Edward VII,Napoleon III RD etc)Once a week i visit this tobaccconist to check if there is any good news but since months nothing .By the way the Germains are so secretive they dont even employ anyone outside their family .
