    A few questions:
    1.) How do you cut out intricate shapes with balsa using the CM3? I find the wood gets damaged when cutting out small objects. Is there a way around this?
    2.) Also, how did you make those tiny pillows? ☺ Is there a link to that on your channel? Many thanks.

      Thank you so much for the video! I make miniatures on my channel as well and have been considering getting the cricut maker. However it can get pricey and I want to make sure it can do what I want. Are you able to use it to cut things at a 1/24 scale ? Also, how small are you able to cut wood? Thank you again!

    • @ItsyBitsyBuild
      @ItsyBitsyBuild  3 года назад +2

      @Juliart Thank you so much for watching :) I've outlined my thoughts below as there are lots of variables:
      1. If cutting simple shapes in 1:24 (like circles or squares for a table) this is definitely achievable. If cutting intricate things with lots of tiny curves and edges, the Cricut can struggle when it comes to wood.
      2. Vinyl & cardstock you can definitely achieve cuts of 1-2mm in width on the intricate cardstock setting (check out my leadlight window video to see this in action)
      3. Wood can be a challenge and Cricut has some guidelines on their website about how far away from the wood edge you should start your design (which would also suggest their view on how thin you can cut) help.cricut.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009431394-Cricut-Maker-Cutting-basswood-with-Knife-Blade - they say not to cut smaller than a quarter of an inch or 0.6mm. I have been fortifying my wood pieces by placing a piece of clear contact film on one side which tends to help and I have successfully cut pieces that are around 5mm width Having said that, the wood cut by the cricut would be considered a soft/fiberous wood (balsa, basswood and chipboard) not a stronger wood that you’d cut with a laser cutter (like plywood). I’ve found when removing from the mat sometimes if the cuts are too intricate, it just snaps off.
      4. Sometimes craft stores selling the Cricut will offer workshops or demos so this might be a good place for you to see it in action and maybe even do a test cut.
      5. There’s an excellent facebook group called ‘Making Dollhouse Miniatures with a Cricut’ - lots of experience miniaturists on there and you can ask to see other people’s work in 1:24 scale.
      6. I also recommend checking out some of my other cricut tutorial videos, particularly the puzzle one because I show what happens when cutting too small.
      Sorry for my long-winded response but there are lots of different factors to consider in this decision and you need to go into this with full transparency.
      I’ll try to create some videos with the 1:24 scale or smaller in future as I’m sure others have similar questions.
      Thanks for supporting my channel 😊

    • @ItsyBitsyBuild

      It really depends on the material you're cutting. Wood is the most difficultto cut small but something like cardstock is a lot easier to cut in tiny pieces. Check out some of my videos and you can get an idea of how small things get.

    Hi there thanks for this video! I bought a cricut maker to help me with my miniatures and was designing a cut file for a gated door. How small can I go, I am concerned it would not work? My measurements are 3mm by 45mm and it is on chipboard. Thank you

    • @ItsyBitsyBuild
      @ItsyBitsyBuild  Год назад +1

      Hey Grace, I'd recommend a bit of trial and error with a smaller piece. 3mm cuts are certainly achievable on thinner materials but the thicker you go, the harder it is to achieve tiny cuts. Most of what I develop has been adjusted through trial and error until you're happy with the finished product. You could always look at layering something like Kraft board or heavy cardstock too. Good luck!
