My fight with colon cancer; part 1.

  • My name is Seth. I'm 50 years old, healthy, exercise, try and eat well, occasionally overdo the booze and I recently got diagnosed with colon cancer.
A friend of mine and the nurse suggested I do a journal. I'm pretty open about what goes on with me and thought maybe someone out there could benefit from my story.
I plan to create a vlog of sorts to explain how I found out that I have cancer, my surgery, my prognosis, and whatever else may come.
I start chemotherapy shortly and am pretty anxious about it. I hear a wide variety of stories from everyone. I just don't know what to believe. I hope that this journal can be cathartic for me and potentially even help someone else.
This experience changed my whole life. As a combat veteran, I faced death on multiple occasions, never in slow motion.
If people watch this and pose questions I'll do my best to answer them.

My brother-in-law had stage 4 colon cancer just over 10 years ago. He beat it and has been in remission for over 6 years. Like you, he was healthy and in good shape and was around 50 years old at the time. Stay the course. You can beat this too. Praying for you.

    Hi Seth :
To do your journey of cancer and your life is brave yet I am thankful.
You're educating yourself and others who have been affected by cancer .
I'm a recent survivor. Not.of colon cancer . Cancer non the less.
    Chemo/radiation treatments
I follow a Survivor who has and continues to help me .
    You're helping others tpo
Open and honesty of your journey.
    Do you have support ?
    As in family/friends ?
I did not but my nurses came everyday to monitor my symptoms etc. They always said : to look at you , one would not know you're sick
What Chemotherapy are you going to do ?
    Honestly,.I was scared shitless
    ( apologies for swearing )
I ate what i was told..well ,.anything protein pacted . I ate 3 cheeseburgers a day prior to chemo
    They said I'd loose weight
    I did .
I made meals ahead and froze them .
    That helped.
Brought snacks , book or w/e to kill time whilst doing chemo .
Stay strong and do your normal every day routine as muvh as you can .
    Im a runner'/jog . I did it as much as i could. Everyday outside...helps
Take the anti nausea pills they give you ..
    I'll check back late

    Another thought
Here in Canada theres a volunteer organization called : Wheels of Hope
They drive you back & forth for all your appts/treatments.
    Look into that ?
You do pay a yearly fee , but it does pay for itself in less than 3 days
    ( for my case . A cab wouldve been 50 $ a crack , there & back )

My family and friends are extremely supportive; sometimes to the point of being overpowering tho they mean well.

Hey Seth… I have a family history of colorectal cancer on both sides of my family. I was #7 on ‘07. I just hit my 17 th anniversary of my diagnoses. Stage 3 rectal 2 nodes involved. Chemo caused a blot clot in my upper vena cava. So never again can I have chem. Radiation was done but caused damage. In 2020 I went septic from my resection leaking. My advice for you is go ahead and give it your best shot this first time. All the treatments will plague you as the years pass. But, lean on your caretakers and let them be the boss. Things will go a lot smoother for everyone. No Whining!! It just makes thing harder.
