Ahsoka Season One Review: Lightsabers, Lore, but Still Needs More

- This video is my review of season one of Ahsoka on Disney Plus. I still liked the show overall but I believe three key changes would have made this show even better. Some of the best moments were the lightsaber battles! There were so many to choose from and the best were between Ahsoka and Marrok, Ahsoka and Bayan, and Ahsoka vs Anakin. The Ahsoka vs Marrok battles definitely had an old school samurai movie feel to them. They were all so much fun to watch. Ahsoka's character still was a little too deliberate for me which slowed the story down too much. I think the writers of the show wanted to make her a wise old sage but the pacing of the show suffered as a result. Also, It would have been interesting to see Baylan Skoll face more conflict as he tried to achieve his goal. We never truly understand what his ultimate goal was so I hope we get a season two. I liked this character so much that I found him more interesting than any of the other characters in the show. Ray Stevenson will truly be missed! On top of that, Sabine didn't really change throughout this season. She finally was able to control the force but it felt unearned since there was little screen time of her practicing. I did not mention in this video the strange inconsistencies with the lightsabers though. I am not sure how Sabine survived a lightsaber to the gut but Ahsoka used hers to take down a ship in outer space. And the sight of her walking onto her ship to face the others was absolutely outrageous. In spite of those moments, Star Wars has been one of my favorite franchises of all time. I root for every show to succeed because the better they are, the more shows we get, the more we as fans win!

i have had a hard time getting over the age. from the first time she was introduced in love action (mandalorian) i thought she was to old. in rebels she appears to be maybe 10 years older than sabine, within 5 of hera. in live action she looks 10-15 years older than sabine an 10 years older than hera. she is supposed to be 5years younger than anakin but looks more like 5 years older than anakin.
You're right. Compare Ahsoka's reaction to seeing Ezra again to her reaction in Rebels when she saw Rex again. Even the animation revealed much more emotion, but subtle and overt, than Rosario Dawson did in live action. I don't think that's Dawson's fault. I think for some reason Ahsoka as a character is being directed to be an "inscrutable wizened monk" trope instead of the Ahsoka she's been in the Clone Wars and Rebels. They've made her more like Yoda, when she'd always been more like Anakin. And, no, an additional ten years wouldn't make that difference. In fact, Dawson played Ahsoka more as we knew her during her guest spot on The Mandalorean under different direction. Your comments about Sabine are even more cogent.
He makes some points but his first point is funny. From a story telling perspective having the Jedi be more emotional and less disciplined is good for plot. But then we’re just saying the character was written as “too” close to the light side to be entertaining.
Yea, it should have been a shoo-in. It has moments of brilliance, but so much wasted screen time, like someone is padding the script.
How to fix Ashoka. Hire a different actress. Her lightsaber skills were abysmal.
Only way to fix it is to start over with a different actress who actually watched The Clone Wars and understands the character. Ahsoka wasn’t some dour emo arrogant angry a&& hole; she was a fundamentally positive, centered individual with good character that let that character guide her loyalty to her friends and her opposition to those that would hurt them.
Plus Rosario Dawson can’t handle a light saber choreography to save her life. Her fighting looks ridiculous.
The Character is fine. The problem is the writing. How about hiring real writers instead of the woke activist they are using now.
