Great video. The five point turn at Limerick Junction was legendary for Rosslare - Limerick trains. I remember the A Class 001s on the Dublin - Rosslare, the 15.15 Dublin - Waterford and the return back, as well as the Fridays Only from Galway to Dublin. I have had a 141, a pair of 121s and a Class 80 kart on the Cobh line. Thanks for capturing these great scenes and sounds. Irish Rail was much better then prior to kartism (26000s).

It's amazing how you see the train go the far as cobh junction before the motor way as built

Yep. not sure what component caused this on the 001s I remember spending summers in my nans in Drumcondra in the 80s. She lived opposite an directly embankment and back then trains used leave northwall everty 10 - 15 mins in the evening after 7. There was a slight uphill gradient for a few miles coming up from northwall. You can imagine the sound they would make coupled with full load. They could be heard literally for miles especially at night in winter as sound travels further in cold air.

@@anthonyclarke4016 I know the winter night effect. I remember being in Belgium where also several EMD powered classes ran. There was one spot in the Ardennes where the uphill climbing trains with double headed class 55 just managed 15-20mph with an 1800 tonnes load.
These trains could be enjoyed for 20-25 minutes on a freezing winter night before passing you.

@@Tom-Lahaye Thanks for sharing, very impressive Tom. Indeed the cold air adds to the sound effects. I took a look at some Belgian class 55s and they are the exact same engine as Irish Rail old class 141/181 with a GM 567. All locomotives in Ireland are GM built except the first diesels which were british built but even then all of them were re-engined with GM. Our 071 class locos were GM built but much more powerful. Good link here to the power of these war dogs starting the climb from Northwall Dublin. Beautiful sound of pure GM power ruclips.net/video/FShskcVZe4U/видео.html

@@anthonyclarke4016 The only difference is that the class 141 has a V8 and the 55 have a V16.
The smaller Belgian class 62 do have a V12 567

Yes the 141 was 950 up and the Belgium 55 was 1,800 hp. I have enjoyed both. Used to do Ireland and Liege - Luxembourg a couple of times each year. For GM locos, I prefer Irish 071s and Norwegian Di 4s. But first place in my heart goes to the French CC72000 and second place goes to the Portuguese 1931s.

Nice shots, I was just about to comment on how did you manage to get a shot all the ways to the viaduct on the Cobh line but I realised that the N25 dual carriageway is now in the middle!
