BAFTA winning Grand Designs is widely recognised as the pre-eminent series on modern architecture and design in Britain. It was originally conceived as a documentary series presented by designer and writer Kevin McCloud that takes us into the heart of life’s great unfolding human stories, where ordinary families risk all to experiment with architecture, technology, and their own lifestyle.

Apart from the TV series, the Grand Designs brand has also expanded to include books, a monthly magazine, architectural awards and a biannual exhibition, Grand Designs Live. - Развлечения
This episode was a tough watch. Really felt like the designer/architect took advantage of her relaxed nature. I've seen enough seasons of Grand Designs to know she shouldn't have had to foot the bill for their screw-ups. The house is interesting, she seems like a fun lady, and Kevin seemed speechless this episode lol
Well said - except that the house is not interesting - it is quirky. There is a huge difference - and this lovely elderly lady will be all too aware of that, every day she wakes up in this hideous dysfunctional monstrosity.
Cant believe they did this to this beautiful lady.... i feel soo sorry fo her...hope shes going to be happy to spend her last days here!.Kevin has been such a wonderful friend to her.... Soo glad she did could see her dream house.. Greetings from Cape town South Africa
This is meant with the utmost respect and admiration :
Pat, "this old duck", is a force of nature...
To tackle a project of this size and complexity using what is in reality a totally unproven building technique for this style of design in her twilight years is a testament to just how much a force of nature and indomitable spirit she can be when she puts her mind to it.
Pat, your "legacy" is really a well deserved, both for you and your children and grandchildren.
Your audio only sounds on one side of my headphones. You guys didn't fix this before uploading it.
What a wonderfully intelligent and philosophical lady. Good for you and your house is beautiful. Well done
What a kind, thoughtfully tactful man is our Kevin ❤ and yes, the sound is sad.
Whenever Kevin asks future participants “But don’t you really think you SHOULD use an Architect?” - he should think back to this very episode - and decide NO !!
What an unprofessional, uninspired charlatan. One can only hope he has since gone into premature enforced retirement.
I LOVE this programme, but this is this first episode which has left me seething.
this architect is laughing all the way to the bank. And that's a bloody shame!
I love this lady! ❤️
Yes, an extraordinary legacy indeed, and an exceptional woman who knows how to be grateful and enjoy life. As to its architectural merits, I can only say that it looks very striking from above and from certain angles inside, but it's hard to tell without furniture sympathetic to its shape and style.
I would never trust that architect. He really took advantage of that lady. In any case, it is still a nice house minus the costs, it just needs a brighter colour, maybe white?
The house sold in February 2022, for about 1.4 million pounds.
Cannot find anything about Miss Pat. Going to watch again and see if I can catch where they mention her last name.
The IMDB description has her as Pat Becker
Pat is a magnificent lady, all involved were winging it and hoping for the best,i hope theyve learned their lesson
A wonderful, positive woman.
What a lovely stoical lady. I think she did a great job and love how it looks from the old house. Kudos to her!
Those complaining of audio, welcome to tv in the 80’s and 90’s! 😂😂
mid 2000's lol
@@Bonserak23 well I’m old so I don’t remember the order?
I'm guessing, 19 years on, that the lady has passed on now. I wonder if she enjoyed the house for her last few years and are her children living there, these days?
I really wonder as well, she wouod be at least 98 now. She could still be living there!!!
I see the family put it on the market in late 2021, so am assuming she inhabits this planet no longer. What a fabulous and fun person. I hope her time in the home brought her nothing but joy.
@@SueMeadhow much did it sell for? I’m so curious
Very Art Modern. I like it.
The nag, nag, nag and more nagging about delays of time and increased costs is spoiling architectural information and the experience of the build, which should have been exciting, informative, and cheerful. By the time it gets built, I know very little more about the intricacies of the build and the anticipation wonderings of the owner. What I do know is repeated doubting of structural integrity, repeated doubting of affordability, and repeated doubting of the shape of the house. You squeeze the joy out of an exciting process.
Not the right architect for the client....who seems more about building a monument to himself than marrying her lifestyle and a workable hypothesis.
This is a beautiful house!! With modern furniture, repaint to White it would be stunning!!!
Another episode where the sound is jacked up so I cant watch it. I'm sure it was an happy ending with the build...
A house thats not all straight lines and corners must be good!
.
According to Wikipedia, this is episode 7 in Season 5, "Shaped Like a Curvy Seashell."
Season 5 episode 7
Copper wow. No way it would happen today it’s so incredibly costly. This project was sort of hard to watch. I wonder why her adult children didn’t suggest something less ambitious. It’s sad to see older folks rambling around on their own in giant homes. They could have moved in with her or helped convert the lower level so she could easily live there without so much alteration and chopping up a lovely estate with property.
Lovely house but they put those awful separate taps in the bathrooms
the only thing I don't like about this show is how they pronounce schedule lol, sounds like shhhaegdhwoollll
I think their expanding form is defective, shouldn't be dripping like that.
The curved walls are structurally stronger and self supporting, therefor less steel required... What a delightful old bat!..tower for the elderly???... Again the shape of the tower is self supporting...pouring in 1 step was idiotic...Not understating the weight of poured concrete -why the engineer should have been present.
That house did not age well.
Experiment build
No I would not buy it..
Xbull liar builders & archetect
