I love the work that this woman does; restoring old bits of furniture. That is a labour of love. Bless her! We live in a horribly throw-away society. It has to stop.
Great episode! There is a crude, base beauty in that "brute" (or Brutalist?) water tower that has been utterly preserved and enhanced by the new build. The interior is fitted out with a keen eye by Denise and her refinished furniture. Utterly delightful.
This is in such hilarious contrast to other episodes that have nightmare clients who want to project manage everything themselves and end up spending way more for way less. The exterior styling isn’t to my tastes, but it clearly suits them wonderfully.
Yeah it’s funny how no one ever thinks about how they will be able to be at home when they are unwell or unable to do stairs. Always always have a home that can be fully lived in on the ground level if need be.
Even when they were showing the plans at the beginning, my thought was, when they get older, they are not going to want to climb all those stairs just to get to the bedroom. Even the kitchen is too high. Carrying all the groceries up is going to be a chore.
Liked the building with its scaffolding. The look she gives her hubby about the3 things he comes home to is priceless... not sure Derick the architect has maxed the potential of the tower... better than a caravan.
i absolutely love how often British ppl reference the Tardis! as an American i rarely hear the doc just casually referenced. so very rarely. of course, the last doc i recall on my American programming was matt smith....god bless him....we just don't get current British programming.
What a stunning building. I do think that the black kitchen countertops, popular during this period, went out of fashion, and rightly so as they bring a heaviness to a room. Likewise, the dining room chairs, although comfortable, seem clunky now and clash with that beautiful table. I'd love to see them replaced with something lighter (more homogeneous) as this is such an airy room, it sings. Chairs and table ought to speak the same language. I wish we'd been privy to CLOSET SPACE. Was there any? None was mentioned and the camera man didn't do his job properly! Lovely couple. Lovely that they cared so much! But WHERE WERE THE DOGS??
Sorry but the outside of the building is really not nice. Maybe if all the outside walls were the same color as the water tower it would look more cohesive? Love the inside
I don't see how what has been done here is any kind of homage or tribute to the original architect. It just looks like the clients were stuck with a big ugly concrete tower and had to do what they could with it. I don't see any progression or enhancement to the spirit of the thing, just the tacking on of incongruous metal boxes. Nothing wrong with that, and I guess if the owners really do feel they have honored the original building, good for them.

Extraordinary home, good taste in furniture, reasonably sized spaces, absolutely clean and clear cut.
I'd LOVE to see this house today! To see if there are any changes... and what kind.

Yep. And its a lovely house
Love this episode!! The house, the clients, the setting etc. etc.!!
Spoken as an older person myself, how are they going to climb all those stairs? The husband is ready to retire? Knees are the first thing to go.

walking is normal and getting old unless you are unfortunate to have some severe disability should not be a deterrent to climb stairs -

GeezZ... I remember this episode! That era of 18 year old me playing rugby and drinking in pubs! Where did the time go!

Celine Dion and Lionel Ritchie CRUSHED IT
Absolutely STUNNING!!!SOOOO brave of u guys ❤❤❤❤
In all the grand design videos the caravan is hell. Yet in all the Tiny Homes videos, the caravan is great.😮
Дуже дякую! Це моя улюблена серія!
Superb
what a great idea, cheers!
what a building! solid and unique!
i love that series! thx 4 sharing, and keep it coming, algorithm
Really interesting project-I hope they ditch the caravans and get some landscaping that frames the structure well.
Još jednom kažem šteta da novih epizoda nema u Hrvarskoj

Charming couple and beautiful building but...perhaps not the most practical place to live.
would have been better with a steep mono pitch roof ad clerestory windows all the way around to float it

THIS HAUSE IS AMAZING.INSPIRATIONS:********
The circular light well is a poor choice. Its too disconected. Should have matched the water tower and kept the material palette more balanced.
❤
It looks like part of a prison on the outside.
A pleasure to look at ... I wonder nearly 20 years on how does it look...

They're getting older, and they'll need an elevator to make it to their bedroom.
So sad to see these extraordinary projects ruined in the end by horrible interior decoration.
Agreed, although this episode is from 2004, so 19 years ago that interior decoration was probably quite 'on trend' 🤢
agreed, 90% of these beautiful houses have terrible interior decor. but guess to each his own
