A very interesting and informative discussion:
The ECHR is an essential, complicated and necessary system, it offers judgements on the wrong-doings of "law-abiding" countries, it should not be allowed to be tossed aside via a simple "populist" referendum, as was the case with leaving the EU under Brexit. If we want decent governments, who can be held to account for their actions, our politicians must ensure right wing charlatans in the political arena are kept in check and exposed as Shysters.

It's the same as I said yesterday although I didn’t cover all of the 14 articles of the convention as thought would have made the comment too long so I kept it short. Drake has gone into more detail to explain to the public the importance of the convention. As I mentioned yesterday if the Conservatives had won the election they would have pulled out of the ECHR Convention and that would have had a detrimental effect on everyone you would lose your rights to a fair trial, and your rights to council whilst the wealthy elite see themselves above the law of the land and we are all peasants and scoundrels.
It would mean that your employer could change your contract of hours of work from 40 hours per week to 76 hours per week because the Government pulled the UK out of the ECHR convention that would me as an employee you would lose all your rights. And this is what people like Drake need to get across to the public who believe in hypocrites like Farafe and extreme right-wing Conservatives who want Britain back to the days when you didn't have any human rights you didn't have a right to live or a right to one property or a right to have your say and a right for your employer not to discriminate against you because you was disabled.

I had a pro Brexit teacher colleague, a science guy, who didn't have a clue that the ECHR had nothing to do with the EU. That's right it is.
It was set up to stop a repeat of what happened in Germany in the 1930s which led to the murder of millions of innocent people and the start of that minor skirmish known as the Second World War.
      So long may it continue.

You need to remember that (a bit like the brexit vote) those friends, family and neighbours that use their democratic right to give up their own rights and freedoms at the same time are happy to take yours away too.

Why not taking BoJo and brexit to the ECHR?

No reason for it to split UK politics. It’s irrelevant with Labour in such a powerful position. If Labour bring in PR, it should never be an issue again, because progressive parties get most of the votes.

@@thomasbootham2707 Evidently you’re not aware of consistent vote share in the UK. Even when Thatcher was getting three figure majorities in the 80s, the progressive vote was over 50%.

One of the most important cornerstones of our freedom and the rights we possess is the ECHR. These rights are far too valuable to lose and tinpot fascists like Fartage and hard right wing tory imberiles like Braverman. Individuals like these should not ever be a position to decide what the population of the UK should have as the fundamentals of the justice system. Our membership of the ECHR needs to be reinforced in law with a clause put in that membership is irrevocable.
