  • IF YOU TRULY WANT TO UNDERSTAND HOW THE MAGINOT LINE FORTS OPERATED AND FUNCTIONED, THIS IS A MUST SEE. FORT CASSO WAS ONE OF THE LAST FORTS BUILT IN 1938, SECOND GENERATION AND IT HAVE BEEN RESTORED NEARLY COMPLETELY.
    WE TAKE THE TOUR OF ALL THE DETAILS AND HISTORY, THE EVENTS AND WHAT MADE THE MAGINOT LINE FORTS TRULY AMAZING.
    BUILT WITH 6000 m3 of CONCRETE, 500 TONS OF STEEL, THE FORT WAS THE GUARDIAN OF THE ROHRBACH PLATEAU, IT CONSISTS OF 3 FIGHTING FORTS AND A HUGE UNDERGROUND TUNNEL SYSTEM, IT WAS A SMALL TOWN UNDERGROUND NOT ONE OF THE LARGEST FORTS BUT CERTAINLY ONE OF THE BEST PRESERVED AN INCREDIBLE TOUR.

    I have always known that the French were great engineers, this was after witnessing the Paris metro, specially the underwater sections that are under the Seine river! I forgot which station it was, but it looked Nemo's submarine from the Jules Vernes adventures! I am talking about the metal rooms with all the bolts on them! Very impressive indeed!
    So I am not surprised one bit when I hear how intricate these fortifications were, from what I know some even has railroad subway stations to bring in materials and soldiers from under the ground!

    I'm so impressed by these fortifications and by the restoration done. Bravo! I admit, my study of history has had the basic message that the Maginot line failed. While it didn't necessarily do what I needed to do it was still impressive.

    What a fantastic video, thank you. Best video I have seen on the Maginot line. The museum tour guide was excellent. Would love to visit one day. My father fought with the BEF and won the Military Medal fighting to defend the Ypres - Comines canal from the advancing Germans on the 27 May 1940. He was badly wounded in the fighting but managed to get back to Dunkirk to get evacuated. Keep the great content coming.

    So, the Maginot line actually worked as intended, because the Germans attacked somewhere else. If the allied had placed most of their armor along the Belgian and Dutch borders in mobile panzer divisions with air support, then WW2 would just have been a minor regional conflict barely mentioned in the history books. Numerical advantage is only an advantage if used properly. The germans showed us that modern mobile warfare tactics would win against poorly organised troops regardless of being outnumbered by 3 to 1.

    Visited the fort today with Ludovic doing the tour. The amount of money that went into the Maginot line was huge. If you actually explore the forts, you understand why. They are engineering marvels. This fort is a must see if you are in Alsace.

  • @cabcalloway674
    @cabcalloway674 2 года назад +2

    I'd heard of the Maginot Line before of course, but today I stumbled upon a cross-section diagram of a fort just like this and literally didn't believe it. I figured it would end up like many other flashy WWII-era concepts that never ended up being used, so I had to see for myself if they were actually built and as large as depicted. My doubts have been firmly laid to rest.
    This is one of those videos where after I noticed the runtime, I thought "there's no way I'm going to sit through all this," and yet here I am at the end of the video. Fantastic tour!

    Very nice tour of that bunker. Wonder how long it took to hunt down all the things to make it new again and everything running

    Tino, I love the objective way that you approach your presentations. I'm ex RAF and know that main stream history is very selective. Having had first hand knowledge of the reporting of the more recent conflicts differs from what actually happened. that last one didnt make sense. TBI, sorry. Bout halfway through your considerable output and loving it. Keep it up Tino and thanks for doing what i cant.

    As impressive as the entire series of fort and bunkers are, they were nevertheless defeated by maneuver warfare. However it is a bit ironic that Patton, master of maneuver, was himself defeated at the battles of Fort Driant. 🤔

      Impressive but not impregnable. The US still stormed Normandy
