you can erase the stain on the palette with a white eraser ;)
Yeah, I didn't believe at first, but it really works! :D
it was the same for me, when I first heard of it :)
A white eraser is like a normal eraser right?
Right :)
I never heard of that one. Thank you for the tip :)
I buy the White Night watercolor now, I was pretty impressed by your drawings. Thanks!
+Neoxin Draws Thanks!!! And you won't regret it I'm sure, it's an awesome watercolor!
They have arrived yesterday and they are really GREAT, thank you! :)
Awesome!! ^_^ Happy paintings! hahaha!
I've never cleaned any of my pallets XD I just keep mixing new colours over them. It just feels like a bit of a waste of pigment to wash them away
Me too!! But sometimes I have to clean it otherwise the colors get muddy...
oh! I just kinda mix similar colours in the same areas, like reds in a corner, blues and greens in a corner, yellows in a corner. I also find it easier to move more paint from the pans to the mixing area if there's already a thin layer of paint there, they seem to stick better to the mixing area than onto my brush XD
Me too! Haha. I thought I was the only one doing the same. Hahahahaha
Nunca usei Schmincke ou W&N, mas White Nights... uau! Gosto muito desta marca e a recomendo, ótimo custo benefício.
Fefê Torquato, obrigada pelo vídeo e suas ilustrações são demais! :) Parabéns.
Wonderful work. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. I have a few St. Petersburg sets I've collected over the years. They are really fun to work with. I have been wishing for the Schmincke set for a while now. It's nice to see it functioning the way you had hoped.
Yes, I really like the brightness of the St Petersburg paint and the Schmincke set is exactly what I was expecting it was!! :D Super worth it.
hey! nice review :) i don't know if you knew this, but Cotman is the student grade watercolour from Winsor & Newton. They have also artist grade watercolours and these are really great. I have Cotman watercolours and these are really less pigmented, then the artist grade W&N watercolour, but still good. White Nights and Schmincke are artist grade watercolours and this is not completely fair comparison of these colours with the student grade Cotman. I personally have all of these watercolours and like artist grade W&N the same as Schmincke and prefer both of them to White Nights. Although White Nights are also very nice colours.
Anna Löwe Thanks Anna! And yeah, I did know Cotman is the student grade of W&N. And I agree with you when you say it isn't a fair comparison based on that perspective, but I think it kinda is when we're talking about prices. At least when I was buying the White Nights set, I saw on Amazon that they were about the same price range, so in this sense it is better to get the White Nights then the W&N's Cotman, right? But I really want to try the artist grade one day, a bunch of people say it is great, so I'm sure it is!
Yeah, I agree, White Nights are artist grade colours and are much more cheaper, than artist grade colours from European brands like W&N and Schmincke. :) when you buy them in Russia, they are really cheap, like 40€ for 36 pans set. Or 48 pan set, which is only available in a wooden case cost 70€. It is very good price. I checked out the pigments they use and these are same pigments like in Schmincke or W&N colours. Maybe the pigment or binder quality is not so good, but they are still very pigmented and nice to use.
whats the brush pen that you used??? 😻
i would like to know this too!
This is a great comparison! I also went back to watch your early watercolors, and it's amazing to see how much you have improved!
Thank you, that's so nice!! I really can't see if I'm better or not so clearly, so it's really good to hear that! ^^
Woah. You know what I just realized?
White Knights abd the big Cotman set have the same watercolor palette!
I have the WK myself and it looks exactly like the Cotman palette lol
Yes, the case is practically identical!! But I prefer the full pans tho! ^__^
+Fefê Torquato So do i! However, i hate the fact that the pans will stick to the palette and cause a mess if they get turned over whilst wet.
The other thing that I dont like is that you can't really mix certain colors because they are all so pigmented it causes a muddy mess. And since the pigmwnts aren't finely milled like common westernized watercolors, flat washes are a pain to achieve. That's why I am getting a van gogh set with them!
You have the exactly complains I have!! I'm using this set as my main set but I also use the Schmincke one. I bought a little Holbein set too, but it didn't arrive yet, so I look forward to that! :D
I prefer W&N Cotman over White Knights. Some of the White Knights colors in my set didn’t seem like they where mixed enough or maybe too much binder was used. Especially the browns. I love the reds and pinks and blues in the set but it was overall disappointing for me. I love my set of W&N Cotman. It has never disappointed me and I love my W&N pro set best.
awesome! Which black brush/ brushpen did you use here?
I started with Van Gogh 15 set
I am afraid I have to disagree. To start at least buy the White Nights, keep apart from W&N Cotman and all cheap alternatives.
With some experience gained you can try cheap and expensive and compare.
this was very useful!!! but now need to add more watercolor palettes to my colection :,) (if you want to get more texture with your cotman watercolors, try using a bit of salt, it reacts really pretty )
This is a very good and useful review. The close up of the paint reacting is so helpful. Great job! Thanks!
Hey fefe! :) I'm in love with your work and now mesmerized by your watercolor techniques!
I wanna start using watercolor, but I'd like to start off with a simpler set that I could buy from a Brazilian site.Do you have any suggestions?
Once again, impressive work and I can't wait for the next Gata Garota story.
Ah valeuzão, seu comentário me deixa emocionada!!!!
Hey, great paintings, like the flow. What brush did you use for the black outlines?
Thanks.
Thanks! I used the Kuretake Fountain pen brush no. 8. I bought it on JetPens here: goo.gl/uVGvJG And I use a converter for ink with it, also from JetPens: goo.gl/W3OY3v :)
Fefê Torquato Thank you :)
Você comprou as aquarelas pela internet (Amazon) ou fora?
Foram todas pela internet, a maioria pela Amazon mesmo. ^^
great review, thanks! What brush do you use in the video?
What paper do you use?
For cleaning palettes, if you can afford it I would suggest some odorless mineral spirits. Just a dab on a paper towel, some scrubbing and the plastic pallet cleans up nicely. Might need to wipe off a bit of excess mineral spirits and let it dry a bit. Just a tip that might help with the mixing pallet.
That's awesome, it really bothers me those stains cause they affect the tone of the colors I'm mixing, so this is a great tip, thank you!
Depending on what you have available, I use the Gamblin brand. I believe you can get it from dickblick.com :) Hopefully this helps! I just cleaned my plastic pallet the other day with it.
Which do you think is better; cotmans 45 or the 36 white nights?
c h y o n e x I would have to choose the White Nights. They're one of my favorites.
Eu tive a mesma dúvida kkkkkkkk
i think id recommend a color selection like prang, like 16 colors or more is my limit, i cant stand mixing black, and like strong purples, ugh 😩😩😩
Thank you for your review my daughter just ask for better watercolors, she wants mijello mission, and she wants tubs, she don´t want pens, but just watch your video she convinced that go for the white nights...thank you thank you thank you... one question, and sorry about my english, still learning... where can i get some examples of the caracter lady that you are painting? I love them for my daughter´s room, she wants to painting. Thank you, and regards from Mexico.
I'm super glad I could help in any way!! I really like White Nights and Mijello paints, almost equally, so if I was choosing between them I would go for the price! ^_^ About the girls I painted, you mean reference images? Sorry those I actually took out of my head! hahaha! But a very interesting page for character reference for your daughter to practice is this one: br.pinterest.com/characterdesigh/ I like to go there when I struggle with some pose! But maybe that wasn't what you meant, so if I didn't answer it right, tell me please! And your english is great! But you can also write in spanish if you're more comfortable, I'm brazilian (fellow latina!) and I can read spanish. I think. hahaha :D
Thank you sooo much... my daughter insist that she wants tube, are they better than pans? if you have to pick between pans and tubes which one would you choose? by the way, my daugher is literally on the floor laughing for my grammar and correcting me....hahahaha...daughters!!
The only thing that could make tubes better than pans are quantity of paint. With one 15ml tube you can fill 3 full pans. That means they cost more, but it's almost always worth it if you already know the colors and the brand you prefer. About quality of pigment they are the same. Pans are just tube paints that are let to dry. I personally always use pans to paint, even when I buy tubes (which I squeeze it all on empty pans) just because they're more simple to handle when painting, I just have to open my watercolor set and is ready to use/mix. Working directly with tubes you have to prepare the color palette you'll use and most of the times you squeeze more paint that you end up using, which can be very wasteful. Sure you can keep the dry palette for the next time you paint, since watercolors are a water soluble medium, but in my case I have pets and I think is very dangerous to let some pigments there for them to lick. (they're not very bright! haha). And if your kid is just starting is good to work with a bunch of different brands, until she knows which one she prefers. And to do that with tubes could be VERY expensive. Doing that with pans is already expensive enough!! Between a set of 24 tubes of Mijello Mission Gold and 24 full pans of White Nights there's not too much difference, in price or quality. I personally would chose the WN but if she REALLY prefers tubes (like REALLY!! I know exactly how it is when you put something in your head, you think that would change when you're older, but no. hahaha) the good thing about Mijello is that she could set them up as pans later if (when) she notices how much hassle it is to paint with tubes! hahaha Hope I could help!! Sorry for the big text, it's a theme I feel very passional about, apparently! ^^
Thank you, don't be worry for the long text, we are so glad that you can take the time to answer us... now I will bothered you, again!!, what brand of brushes do you recommend us? and sizes pleaasee. Thank you sooo much... have a grate evening.
AIDE MANCERA I use mostly my water brushes, my favorite which hold the tip sharp very well are the cheapest ones, the Sakura Koi. I use them for smaller paintings and on my sketchbook. For bigger paintings a good choice can be the Cotman series 111 from Winsor &Newton. Good sizes to have are no. 1 and 10. And don't worry, ask anything you want, if I can help, I will! ^^
Masss, depois de conhecer essas outras, MINHANOSSASENHORA
What I got out of this is that the white nights and schminke are darker and spread better but she recommends everyone buy Cotman.
Actually I just made a comparison with the watercolor I owned talking about their pros and cons, and recommended the Cotman 12 set for people who are starting to paint and doesn't know yet if they would like the technique, because it's a very good set, but also cheap. And then I recommended the White Nights over the bigger Cotman set, because it costs less and it has better quality. I didn't recommended the Schmincke one because of their price, it's a very big investment for beginners... So I don't know, maybe my speaking english isn't very clear, I'm sorry about that. But I hope my writing english is better though! ;)
Soy muy mala para el ingles me ayudarias a elegir entre field box 12pastilas de winsor and newton $1200MXN o 12 pastillas schminkle $1588MXN
Your paintings are gorgeous!
you can just wet the surface with plain water before adding paint if you want spread
THANK YOU ive been debating over schmincke or white nights paints for aaaages!!!!!!!!
I'm glad I could help!!
I heard toothpaste cleans plastic paste.
I AM FALLING ASLEEP!!!!!!
A damp Mr. Clean magic eraser will clean the plastic like new.
schmincke 12 half pan color ar very nise for my , and you have cotman 45 hal pan set !
Nathalie prins I really like the Schmincke set too! ^_^
Hello, I was just wondering what brush you coloured the hair and dresses with. It looks like a wonderful one. Thanks for a great review! :D
It's a Mimik brush, a synthetic very soft faux kolinsky round brush. This is the number 12 I'm using. It came in set I bought on Amazon, I super recommend it! Actually I have to do a review/comparison video between these and the Cotman one, so stay tuned for that if you're interested! :)
on jerrysartsama the whole mimik brush set (aka every brush youll ever need) is only 30 dollars! The brushes are superior quality too and they'll last a while as they are synthetic!
That's an awesome deal! I bought them for 58 buck, if I remember well... I really like theses brushes, if you take good care of them they'll last you a long time!!
White nights r not considered student grade there artist grade
schmincke are horrible opaque, i am not a beginner and i can realize that. metalic box is very nice, so i took them away and fill with the best: cotman!
That's because the pigment is so strong you only need a bit to cover an area so u have to use more water to make it less opaque. Shmincke is world renowned for a reason
bett fon i feel bad about you
you have to use more water
your style is incredible and cute ;u;
what's that brush marker you using
It's a Kuretake brush pen number 8. I love it!
Beautiful painting
Great review! Thank you
Could not understand one word due to ridiculous background music.
Obrigada! Este era el video que esperaba!

+Fefê Torquato obrigado por responder 💗💗💗
those are expensive im crying
+brendaaa Yeah they surely are! But the cotman 12 half pans have a good price for such nice watercolor. It's a good first investment! :}
+Fefê Torquato i just got that set actually ahaha. i don't know why but the price of that set is really high in my country. it costs about $30. i'm broke now.
+brendaaa Yeah, it's always cheaper by the source, like the russians sets, in US Amazon costs 50/60 dollars and in the russian site is 38 euros which is like 40 dollars... In my currency is even worse. So yeah we suffer, our pockets anyway... U__U
i found my st petersburg watercolor set on etsy for 24 dollars which is not alot for artist quality and will last you a long time.
That's a great price for theses paints! *-*

I find these strong colours from white nights so hard to control. the water gets dirty quickly and bad. I only like them, when I use the colours very bluntly on a small postcard like drawing. for everything else - just hard to control. I wonder, if people just paint different kind of stuff, than what I try, or they only think, they are happy with white nights because they think, it is a great price and it is calles professional painting? but from real professionals, I only know a few artists or lets say, grafic illustrators, that enjoy white nights. but other than that? hm. (I also was not happy with my Winsor and newton cotman 12 pan set for beginners. the mixing of certain colours was hard. I didn't want to try more from these eiterh. looking back, I wish I could have tried these without buying and only buy the tubes, that I own now).
Aaaaaaand
