Frank Langella is absolutely magnificent. He doesn't play it for camp, he goes straight on full villain, turning Skeletor from a cartoon joke into a truly terrifying villain and you can tell he's loving it. Also for 1987, that is a DAMN good makeup job and he spoke on how it helped him vanish into the role. "Give us one more chance..." "I am not in a giving vein this day."
The guy that plays Courtney Cox’s boyfriend was a main cast member on the TV show “Star Trek: Voyager”, he played the part of “Lieutenant Tom Paris”. ……he bangs a half Klingon, half Latina chick on the show too. 🤓
Fun facts that you may not know: Billy Barty: he actor that played Gwildor (sp?) also played the old wizard High Aldwin in Willow, Screwball in one of my favorite Tom Cruise movies Legend, and was Noodles the camera man in one of my All-Time Favorite Top 10 movies, UHF. The same actor that plays the cop was also Principal Strickland in the Back to the Future films and the captain in Top Gun.
Oh on the bit of the kid winning the contest, I think rules said it had to be non-speaking as one line qualified him for a SAG card and Cannon didn't want to pay extra cost on that.
Red. I have NO SHAME to say that I love this movie because even though it shouldn't work and almost everything goes, you still can't help but watch it and smile and laugh. And Langella as skelletor is frickimg awesome. You can tell frank enjoyed it 😊😊😊😊
Agree. It's a movie made with enough competence that you can like it, and enough incompetence that you can love it. And I love it....even got myself a stainless steel & bronze full size replica power sword a couple of years ago....probably not my wisest purchase but it's mine and it's awesome!
Good video! I do have to say that the director of the film tried his best to make a good film, but Cannon shot him in the foot every step of the way, to the point that he had to pay for the final sword fight out of his own pocket.
This is definitely a guilty pleasure flick for me. I remember being disappointed as a kid when this came out, but it's what we got. I kinda grown to enjoy it for what it is, I'm sure nostalgia is a huge part of it.
Here's trivia about the after credits scene: The after credits scene which Skeletor is in the chasm beneath Castle Grayskull was unscripted and it was added in by director Gary Goddard. Gary Goddard instructed BOSS Studios to prepare a tank of pink liquid and Frank Langella in makeup and costume was brought over to the tank of pink liquid. Gary Goddard told Frank Langella what he was to do and that he was to get in it and when the camera started rolling, he was to surface, look back at the camera and say the line "I'll Be Back!". Frank Langella agreed to do it and it was done in 1 take and that take was used in the movie.
Masters of the Universe is a great movie. Dolph Lundgren was the natural choice for He-Man and Frank Langella was the best thing about the movie and he gave a brilliant performance as Skeletor.
I'm starting to think Redeye won that pigboy contest. Red knowing about the contest then saying he should of had lines lol another awesome review my man
Great stuff! thanks again Red Eye. i was aware and appreciated your content before but i guess i wasn't subscribed. now i am =) can't wait for the next upload. keep on keeping on brother.
I really wanted to see this in the theater as a kid. But at the time drivein’s closed down and my parents didn’t take us to muliplex’s much cuz it was expensive and money was short. We waited for it to hit video and really liked it even though the switch out of earth in place of eternia plot device.
Awesome... This movie is so nostalgic because it was one of the few action movies I had on video when I was a small kid. I remember I always watched it if I was sick. That was awesome, not having to go to school but watch He-Man instead! Didn't know the Pig Boy story. But I always thought that character would make a cool action figure.
Still watch it now 😁 Loved it as a kid, watched a few reviews since and I can understand why ppl didnt like it. Name changes, filmed primarily on earth instead of the universe, but still a great watch
🤓 Another Fun Fact: This movie’s box office failure lead to the creation of CYBORG with JCVD which repurposed costumes and sets intended for the MASTERS sequel.
I unironicly love this movie And this RedEye review is one of my all-time favorites as well. But there's not a single review by RedEye that I dont love
Music, in creation myths, fantasy, even in a way in string theory is equated with creation or instant travel or plane shifting (folding time and space)
Ah this movie made me remember to two movies: Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure, and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor. Yes Star Wars, yes, ewoks, yes, for children, yes they absolutely lovely and B movies at the same time.
Are those posters as you enter and exit the theater references or just random movie type posters? Like is that supposed to be you and a loved one? The animation portions if i wasn't specific enough there.
I had my own adventure sleeping on the hills right up the street right up from the downtown they filmed the end scene(Whittier,CA). I chose a log to stand and take a leak off and realized a damn rattlesnake was right underneath and this kid me and my road dawg met went in on the thing with said log and proceeded to cut it up with my knife, still upset I left the rattle(d'Oh!), Suddenly they ditched us and eventually we fell asleep where I swear I saw a mountain lion cruising directly across from our hill at like 2am. Good times🤘😎
Ehhhhhhhh, I hate to be that guy etc etc but in the documentary "power of grayskull" apparently it was in Dolph's contract that he had 3 goes to get the dialogue right....and they eventually got it to the point where it wasnt too horrible......having said that, this is a real guilty pleasure of mine, so thanks for the review!
Lundgren acknowledges that in interviews today, he was still getting used to the post-Rocky stardom and English not his first language and wishes he'd had more time to get it right.
Frank Langella is absolutely magnificent. "Give us one more chance..."
"I am not in a giving vein this day."
Best part of this movie, and it's not even CLOSE!!! I love him as Skelly!
KNEEEEL!!!
Langella did a two-part episode of ST: Deep Space Nine because his kids loved the show.
Patron called Ginger Snaps? You should definitely review that movie next, it is a blast
As a kid who was born in the 80s and who had every single He-Man toy this movie meant the world to me when it came out.
An afternoon of Lieutenant Tom Paris screwing around in the holodeck actually...
5:50 He kinda looks like if someone disguised a troll doll as Gary Oldman as Dracula
The guy that plays Courtney Cox’s boyfriend was a main cast member on the TV show “Star Trek: Voyager”, he played the part of “Lieutenant Tom Paris”.

Love the fact that Skeletor’s hat grew with more power.
This channel is a nostalgia trip down my childhood... Love it
Still better than the Kevin Smith remakes.
This flick may not have had the cash to give us what we wanted, but it's an absolute hoot. Loved it when I was ten, love it now.
The bald guy is the principal from back to the Future.
Red.
I have NO SHAME to say that I love this movie because even though it shouldn't work and almost everything goes, you still can't help but watch it and smile and laugh.

I feel like anytime an actor gets to be Unapologetically evil, They go all in
My favourite parts were a) He-Man shooting people, and b) Frank Langella in general
Good video!
I do have to say that the director of the film tried his best to make a good film, but Cannon shot him in the foot every step of the way, to the point that he had to pay for the final sword fight out of his own pocket.
Indeed
This movie was a blast to watch. DOPLH HAS THE POWER!!
@9:45 that scene reminds me of Highlander 2 The Quickening, talk about a movie that has to be talked about
This is definitely a guilty pleasure flick for me. I remember being disappointed as a kid when this came out, but it's what we got. I kinda grown to enjoy it for what it is, I'm sure nostalgia is a huge part of it.
Good mornin'!
Good morning friend. Good to see you here.
David Bowie joke was on point!
I loved he-man as a kid. I remember watching this Christmas morning in 1987 as I opened my stocking.
I have the power! Of movie reviews!
I just literally came across your page like 30mins ago. You earned a subscriber my friend. Keep grinding
Now you have to do the 89 Dolph Punisher movie lol fun times in the 90’s
I loved that movie when I was a kid. Had all the toys, castle Grayskull and Snake Mountain. Lol. Love your channel.
I woke up to both playsets and assigned figures on Christmas, didn't open presents
FOR TWENTY MINUTES!!!
The first movie I watched as a kid that I would fast forward the end credits to see the after movie scene of skeletor actually still being alive.
Here's trivia about the after credits scene: The after credits scene which Skeletor is in the chasm beneath Castle Grayskull was unscripted and it was added in by director Gary Goddard. I always look forward to your uploads and save them for when I can really enjoy them. It's almost like having a friend.
Oh my God. What a way to spend my Saturday watching the funniest man on RUclips well working.
“How accurate?”
“Within a parsec eon.”
No Star Wars reference there. Lol.
Thanks for another hilarious review.
Kudos on always bringing fun facts into the reviews. The one about the pig boy especially !
Keep up the good work !
Cheers
Thanks friend! So glad you liked it
@@RedEyeReviews very much so buddy!
Frank Langella played Skeletor? All these years I thought that was Jack Palance lol
Gwildor was the town's main wizard in Willow. That's for those who recognized his voice.
Masters of the Universe is a great movie. Dolph Lundgren was the natural choice for He-Man and Frank Langella was the best thing about the movie and he gave a brilliant performance as Skeletor.
Belive it or not, I own this movie on blu-ray. Saw it in theaters when I was kid. Loved it.
Loooooooove this movie with a Passion.
Even today at 41 year old. Hope they make a great amazing remake.
I think this was the first movie i saw at the theater 🙌✨🖤
That's an amazing first movie
One of my all time favorite movies!!
Robbie Duncan McNeil played Tom Paris in all seven seasons of ST: Voyager. Langella and Meg Foster guest starred in ST: Deep Space Nine.
When I was a kid, this was my first so-bad-its-good movie.
And the cosmic KEY! Can knit a wicked sweater.
And he became the principal in back to the future.
imagine winning a contest to be in a movie only for your face to be obscured.
You missed the end scene after the credits. Skeletor pops up out of the water saying "I'll be back!!"
Skeletor in this is too good for the rest of this movie for sure to an absurd degree.
I needed this today. THANKS RR!
Red Eye, good morning and thanks for the great video!
10:40, should've shown us the School of Rock poster, not Nacho Libre.
Did he have a cloak in School of Rock?
@@JoeR203 not that I'm aware of, but it fits the joke better imo
@10:47 My boy skelly was walking his AZZ off. Lol
The Skeletor costume still holds up today. It's very well made.
I really wanted to see this in the theater as a kid. But at the time drivein’s closed down and my parents didn’t take us to muliplex’s much cuz it was expensive and money was short. We waited for it to hit video and really liked it even though the switch out of earth in place of eternia plot device.
Now I want to see a masters of the universe pitch meeting
I love this movie I will never forget this movie my grandma and my mom took my brother and I to the drive in
👍👍
I don't know if you know or not but there's an after credits stinger scene at the very end of this movie. It's hilarious
Another one of my faves and other great review. Well done again redeye.
Awesome, thanks for the review, I’m not sure why but I like this weird movie
Awesome... This movie is so nostalgic because it was one of the few action movies I had on video when I was a small kid. I remember I always watched it if I was sick. That was awesome, not having to go to school but watch He-Man instead!
Didn't know the Pig Boy story. But I always thought that character would make a cool action figure.
Wasn't the Boy who won a Contest, a huge Skeletor Fan, much more than He-Man, and there's a Photo of him on Set, with Skeletor in full Costume?
Red Eye Reviews: Not a cure for depression, but a hell of a nice distraction.
Still watch it now 😁
Loved it as a kid, watched a few reviews since and I can understand why ppl didnt like it. Name changes, filmed primarily on earth instead of the universe, but still a great watch
🤓 Another Fun Fact: This movie’s box office failure lead to the creation of CYBORG with JCVD which repurposed costumes and sets intended for the MASTERS sequel.
Skeletor bears an uncanny resemblance to Jack Palance.
they seem to have reused the Road Warrior soundtrack in that scene showing Julie running down the alley.
Oh snap it's tom paris and principal strickland in some kind of time travel madness
Speaking of Star Wars parallels did u also notice that the good guy lasers were blue & green while there bad guy lasers were red?
I unironicly love this movie
And this RedEye review is one of my all-time favorites as well.
But there's not a single review by RedEye that I dont love

I loved he-man as a kid all this time I had no idea it was dolph lundgren 😂
I always see Tom Paris from star trek voyager and Monica from friends when I see the earth couple
Thank you so much for this recap! Flash Gordon should be next 🙏
Are those posters as you enter and exit the theater references or just random movie type posters? Like is that supposed to be you and a loved one? The animation portions if i wasn't specific enough there.
The Lack of Knowledge about the Size Difference between Universe & Galaxy is on of Holywood biggest Slips.... Dolph is Still Great anyway! ☺️
The make up job felt incomplete, like it was a prototype that wasn’t ready for the big screen but Franks performance is what sells this movie.
Great video
👍. Huge shout out to you sir.
So the principal from Back To The Future became a cop?
I had my own adventure sleeping on the hills right up the street right up from the downtown they filmed the end scene(Whittier,CA). You should do one on Highlander or Legend!
Can you tell the moment they ran out of money? (hint, it's at 4:37)
oh ya, awesome choice. I forgot how much star wars like laser shooting there was in it. 😂🤣😂
50k subs? Let's do it....because....REDEYE HAAAAAAAS THE POOOWEEEEEEEEEER!
You’ll get it 50,00, you’ll get to 500,000 make my words!
If you had transposed the order of words it would have been yoda, "Bask in its stank we will ".
"Rectum destroyer" BEST LINE I HEARD!
Ehhhhhhhh, I hate to be that guy etc etc but in the documentary "power of grayskull" apparently it was in Dolph's contract that he had 3 goes to get the dialogue right....and they eventually got it to the point where it wasnt too horrible......having said that, this is a real guilty pleasure of mine, so thanks for the review!
yes, true
Lundgren acknowledges that in interviews today, he was still getting used to the post-Rocky stardom and English not his first language and wishes he'd had more time to get it right.
Love this film
Shanieology may need to react to this...aka Skeletor himself!
"...because the first hot lady he saw like him", that's about all it takes really. We're such simple creatures.
Yeah some of that good old-fashioned cheesy Cannon🧀🧀🧀 Skeletor was the best part of this movie.
I agree. I love Takis
Love it.. This movie is so much fun!!
Niiice.. thanks a lot bro 😀
Tom Paris getting all the girls haha.
Power Rangers (1995)
Pretty please
while not a perfect movie by any means,it's not as bad as it's reputation seems to be. it is cheesy yet entertaining
The giant butthole door almost killed me !
How did this get made podcast did this first and better.
Mr Strickland thinks Skeletor is a slacker
