Man jailed for raping and attempting to kill Wellingborough woman

A man who raped and then attempted to kill a young woman in Wellingborough has been handed a life sentence.
Sergiu Boianjiu, aged 39, was convicted of the offences by a jury on August 26, after a two-week trial at Northampton Crown Court.
In the early hours of February 6, 2022, Boianjiu followed a woman in her 20s from a nightclub in Park Road before attacking her in Great Park Street.
An intensive investigation by Northamptonshire Police resulted in Boianjiu being identified, arrested and charged before he was found guilty by a jury.
On Friday, September 16, he was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 26 years at Northampton Crown Court.
