I have a Mazda 2, petrol, manual, the mid power version, I love it, people comment on how it looks like a posher bigger car due to it's style, the red is an amazing colour. Interior is very good for the class and price, driving it is great, gear box is short and quick, the lack of turbo is no problem at all as a little more revs and the acceleration is enough, it likes to rev too, I drive it like it's stolen a few times when the roads are quiet and I'm on my way to work at 5:30 am and it puts a bigger smile on my face than high power cars, motorway cruising is quiet and the engine isn't straining at 80mph /130kmh. Any small turbo cars I had in the past (VW group) gave non stop problems, this has been bullet proof so far (2.5 years).
@@arryt3912 no I don’t, changed jobs and needed something bigger, wish I still had it! I would guess on a motorway it used 5 l/100km and town driving maybe 6. Although I would say don’t concentrate too much on the numbers, it was fun to drive, had a bit more grown up feeling and better cabin than most small cars and was pretty nippy for a 1.5. Would still highly recommend it.
Mizno Kaztoshi, the chief engineer of the Nissan R35 GTR, just recently examined these two small hatches for a Japanese motoring magazine on a race track and gave the Swift a 90 and the Mazda 2 an 80, noting the suspension setup and the overall chassis balance of the Mazda were not near as sophisticated and refined as the Suzuki's. That's why I'm so interested in the upcoming Suzuki Swift Sport right now...
averagejoe That's interesting... and actually quite surprising to me. I have driven the new 2 and found it to be excellent in terms of chassis dynamics and steering feel although I understand the Swift is strong in this respect too. I agree about the Swift Sport. The new turbocharged model promises to be impressive, and I would definitely be interested in test driving it.
Mazda 2 is an excellent B segment offering in my opinion. Having driven the current 2 in a few guises here in the UK including the impressive 1.5d it is the one I pick. It doesn't just look good and drive well it has a well finished and executed interior. That said the Swift is undoubtedly appealing too, especially the upcoming Sport version. It's a shame Mazda don't offer a hot version of the 2.
JDM boy I have had my Mazda 2 115 Sport Nav for 18 months now, absolutely in love with the car. For a Supermini it’s a shoebox length shorter than my previous mkii 3mps was! And yet given its 1000kg weight the 1.5 has more than enough poke for all situation (literally not found a situation yet where even fully loaded on a long holiday commute it struggles) and it’s fun to use all the revs whilst throwing it down the roads near where I live in the Peak District. I had always said though that a slightly wider track, sticky rubber and the 2.0 engine and brakes from the 3 would transform the 2 from a sporty great to drive supermini into a proper fun little hot hatch.
Driven both cars. Well I owned a swift back in 2014. But… after trying to drive the mazda 2.. it is just totally on a different level. You will never feel tired driving countryside with the m2.
I drive a swift 1.2 AMT. Average fuel consumption 18.8km/l in town. Fun to drive, fantastic handling and it has enough power, even on the highway. It is a budget car though. Mazda has better quality plastics.
People who say mazda are boring , Are the one ones , Who never kept Mazda, From very the beginning Mazda was exciting with their legendary RX2, RX3... Rx7, Rotary eng cars , Still famous for drag racing all over the world.
I think Suzuki is one step forward than mazda and honda in terms of durability through years. I still see 60, 70 or 80 model suzukies on the road but where is 60's or 70's mazdas hondas? Are they disappeared suddenly or thrown into car trash?
Suzuki IS much more durable and reliable than Mazda. The data and consumer reports reflect this. A colleague of mine used a Suzuki Swift to travel long distance through and across Australia along with friends in Toyotas and Mazdas. Before they reached their destination, the Toyota and Mazda where having engine problems. His Swift was still running strong.
Don't you just love those throw-away, black and white statements; like the Swift is lacking open road power? With enough grunt for a top speed of 180 km/h, I think you'll do just fine on the highway;-)
I've got a 2018 Swift GL 1.2ltr and I can tell you that the car is actually better on the open road at 90-100km/hr I have never experienced any sluggishness with the transmission. In fact once you have momentum it is easy to overtake. But it is not as great at low speeds
Looking at both cars myself I found out from one of the sales guys that the 2017 Mazda 2 had a late 2017 refresh so an early 2017 would have some minor differences I've yet to decide I wish Mazda would give a better warranty
with polo everything is optional, you must pay 575€ for 15" alloy wheels lol, is pathetical because this one have 16" standard. german cars are the prefered car for people that love pay for everything
Tony x In Australia, Polo has 15" alloys standard and many other features standard. There are only two option packs for Polo in Australia and it's great value
The swift 1.0 turbo uses a 6 speed auto made by aisin a Toyota subsidiary. All its parts are top notch. IHI turbo, denso and Mitsubishi electrics and ac.
Mohamed Tahir Have u ever kept mazda ? Because mazda is never boring , Engine always willing to rev and i have kept 2012 Swift , So i know what suzuki got , cheers!
Suzuki is good for making less priced car or i might say cheap cars I have kept Suzuki cars, Suzuki cars lack top end power compared to honda mazda and toyota
So Japan is a "Third World" country then according to your logic? Suzuki is much more popular there than Mazda is. www.google.com.ph/amp/s/www.best-selling-cars.com/japan/2017-q1-japan-best-selling-car-brands-models/amp/
Not in my country 3rd world country. Suzuki ain't popular here because it's trash. Not much people buy the Mazda 2 because it's pricing is not reasonable unless if you really want a Mazda.
I downgraded from a CX5 to a swift. No regrets. Swift is more fun to drive and has a way better fuel consumption. The hardness of the pladtic finishes is not a big concern for me
Swift engine blows up very quietly and smoothly. The engine does not have a cover because various types are available. The engine of Swift Sport has a cover because there is only one type.

Do you still have the Mazda 2 Iain? What mpg were you getting out of it, when you were just driving normally? Many thanks Arry

Happy to hear. Can you pls name the magazine.
Do you have a link to this . As a swift owner i would love to see it.

Kinda biased. They should have compared the Mazda to the 1.0L Boosterjet Turbocharged Suzuki Swift.
An Drei I agree the 1L Boosterjet is a far better option, it has plenty of power.
The Swift's optional Turbo motor and superb driving position and vision does it for me.
In Malaysia, we only hv 1.5cc Swift to compete/compare fairly with Mazda 2.. sadly though.. Malaysia is no longer bringing in the new version of Swift
I think Suzuki is one step forward than mazda and honda in terms of durability through years. I still see 60, 70 or 80 model suzukies on the road but where is 60's or 70's mazdas hondas? Are they disappeared suddenly or thrown into car trash?
Ender Bilsen : Reason u still see, Suzuki on roads , is that suzuki cars are cheap and people who can’t afford , They keep rebuilding them for use.

An Drei : What a story, All over the world Toyota is considered most reliable Auto maker industry, And without any doubt.
And please don’t compare Toyota with Suzuki, Toyota is far far bigger company then Suzuki!
Ender Bilsen agreed with u.. Durability among Suzuki Car
Ex top gear icon James may has chosen the swift as the best normal car of 2018.
Don't you just love those throw-away, black and white statements; like the Swift is lacking open road power? With enough grunt for a top speed of 180 km/h, I think you'll do just fine on the highway;-)
So true.. It is actually better at higher speeds.
Of course Suzuki Swift ! I know Suzukis long last quality with hard every day leg ! 1,0 BoosterJet is real good and + hybrid !
Mazda 2 is for little drivers I've been in both the Swift has more space and if you have broader shoulders you'll be more comfortable in the swift.
you can out apple carplay and navigation in the mazda 2
I've got a 2018 Swift GL 1.2ltr and I can tell you that the car is actually better on the open road at 90-100km/hr I have never experienced any sluggishness with the transmission. In fact once you have momentum it is easy to overtake. But it is not as great at low speeds
suzuki swift the best
Looking at both cars myself I found out from one of the sales guys that the 2017 Mazda 2 had a late 2017 refresh so an early 2017 would have some minor differences I've yet to decide I wish Mazda would give a better warranty
I wish Suzuki never left the states. I'm a little frustrated, I feel like they didn't try hard enough.
What a lack of depth review without mentioning the service intervals and fuel consumtion/range capacity
Polo has had optional adaptive cruise control since its facelift a few years ago. Swift is not the first to have it in its segment
alexaescht first to have it "as standard " .
with polo everything is optional, you must pay 575€ for 15" alloy wheels lol, is pathetical because this one have 16" standard.
german cars are the prefered car for people that love pay for everything
Tony x In Australia, Polo has 15" alloys standard and many other features standard. There are only two option packs for Polo in Australia and it's great value
Wat about the reliability lol
Polos are crap, it's slow, underspeced in my country.
Suzuki Swift uses Jatco CVT.
The swift 1.0 turbo uses a 6 speed auto made by aisin a Toyota subsidiary. All its parts are top notch. IHI turbo, denso and Mitsubishi electrics and ac.
Suzuki designed to last, and still fun.
Mazda designed by new technology and fun, not in par reliable come from simplicity of the suzuki
The Suzuki only has 2 speakers or 4 on the top spec model. Big deal breaker for me😂
In Europe 6 speakers for Top, 4 for lower models.
Can I drive the swift as a guyy?
Why wouldnt you?
@@OnlineHipHopTV True but, the hybrid swift isn't in Australia so going the rolla now, thanks
I will take mazda 2 over swift anytime , mazda got more quality , I already have 2007 mazda 3 with no problems at all.
That was the first car I drove. I never had a bad time on that baby. The steering wheel was kinda stiff though.
Not to mention Mazda's superior transmission compared to Suzuki's CVT!
No thanks suzuki it is
Maximus Khan I prefer Swift, best handling and best selling car.Mazda ia boring.
Mohamed Tahir Have u ever kept mazda ? Because mazda is never boring , Engine always willing to rev and i have kept 2012 Swift , So i know what suzuki got , cheers!
I had a swift 1.2 cvt as a courtesy car. It was annoyingly slow. I would only get a manual mazda2 or swift sport manual, not an auto.
Suzuki is good for making less priced car or i might say cheap cars I have kept Suzuki cars, Suzuki cars lack top end power compared to honda mazda and toyota
Maximus Khan Suzuki engine reliable and powerful compare the competitors
zecky wd suzuki has a large experience making small an reliable engines (motorcycke engines)
Mazda 2, hands down.
No thanks
Suzuki cars are popular brand in Third world countries 😜
So Japan is a "Third World" country then according to your logic? Suzuki is much more popular there than Mazda is.

and then?
Mazda 2 all rank hands down winner!!!
The Baleno would have blown the Mazda into the weeds!
I will Take Mazda
I ❤️ you mazda!
I would like a masda 2 when I grow up
Suzukiii
Mazda 2 the best
Superminis with automatic gearboxes... good grief
what ever Suzuki cars have been inferior to Mazda , Toyota and Honda. Suzuki makes good cars but no class. mazda have been always classy.
Lol
Fair point, but value wise the suzuki would be the way to go without looking like a total bomb
Susuki have more class....you not class...you are gay
What is professional driver or mechanics says are the most comments is design.. Suzuki Engine already very reliable and very good handling
I downgraded from a CX5 to a swift. No regrets. Swift is more fun to drive and has a way better fuel consumption. The hardness of the pladtic finishes is not a big concern for me
Susuki Wins. ..is better.
the Swift used to be one of the best looking small hatchbacks back in 2004. what is this shitty design they came to ????
Мазда лучше
Masda 2 cars are not in the uk and Suzuki swifts are in the uk so evey one will have to pick a rubbish Suzuki swift 😂
The suzuki's engine looks so bad and messy😨
Swift engine blows up very quietly and smoothly.
The engine does not have a cover because various types are available.
The engine of Swift Sport has a cover because there is only one type.
Superminis with automatic gearboxes... good grief
