      @dycedargselderbrother5353 6 лет назад +1

      That's even greater reason for prices to drop: with Moore's Law dead, the same facilities are used and there is no upgrade cost to recoup. Though it should be said Nvidia went large (expensive) die, which is basically all you can do at the end of a process, so they aren't exactly cheaping out. On the other hand, this architecture has been for sale for a month and a huge chunk of that die remains inert.

    The "future-proofing" of these cards with ray tracing is silly and pointless. By the time RT is actually implemented and considered a sought-after feature, new, superior cards will be available. Especially since Nvidia have proved that they have zero qualms about flooding the market with cards to choose from; they will milk that cow however they can.

      1. The next gen cards wont be cheaper than rtx 20s right now anyway.
      2. The pascal will perform even worse anyway in the future and you will need to change vga with high expense anyway.
      3. It will be at least 1 and 1/2 or 2 years for next gen.

      Shit, if Nvidia keeps this up and their timing is mismatched with next gen middleware development engines supporting raytracing we may be saying the same thing with the 3000 series. They need to put out a high performance, affordable GPU that supports raytracing. Otherwise it will not be worth it for developers to make their games with features a tiny slice of the market will ever afford to see.

    Not a chance. Price is still rediculous. What happened to x70 series cards being $350. Now it’s $500? No that’s I expect to get an x80 series card for $500 and an 80Ti for $700. Anything outside of that is an absolute no from me. Wish others would start telling Nvidia no with their wallets and force the company to stop price gouging. I’ll stick with my 970. Maybe a1080Ti but the 20xx series can go die in a fire.

      I think its you who didnt understand the term „inflation“ very well, an RTX 2080 that costs 800 bucks and performs the same way that a 1080 ti does has nothing to do with inflation, the 1080 ti is 2 years old and has now reached MSRP in europe/germany (699€ / it should be at 400-500 now)
      This is ridicolous, even with inflation that should have been a 5% increase of the price but not a 60% increase for the XX80 series (the 2080 sells for roughly 800 bucks instead of the usual 500)
      Thats not inflation, its literally explained in the first minutes of any economics lecture: supply and demand & a market monopoly by those greedy nvidia cunts because amd cant get their shit together

    Never mind the fact we don't have any ray tracing tech in games yet, we still don't have the tech from the 10 series cards in games yet (SMP, Simultaneous Multi-Project). Man I bought my 1080 with a triple monitor setup so excited for that tech.. and well, it never happened.. :(

    • @mupzmupaz
      @mupzmupaz 6 лет назад +5

      SMP is not only hooking up three monitors and got the display output on the three of them. From what I understand, it is to balance the weird looking perspectives of games where you pull in two sides monitor onto you for multiple display output, so you have basically equal distance to all of the monitor. But, the game sadly only render the game like you have 3 monitor in straight line, so it creates that weird looking graphic when you look on the edge of monitor that touch with the middle monitor.

    • @MrMalditor
      @MrMalditor 6 лет назад

      The difference between SMP, which very few people would/could take advantage of since it requires multiple monitors (obviously), ray tracing would benefit anyone who plays a game that has that technology in place. This makes it something that has much more broad appeal for gamers than those looking for immersion in (mostly) car driving simulators and such.The same goes for DLSS, that's a technology that could benefit anyone who has the card and the technology is supported by the game. The 20 series RTX cards are offering both of these new technologies at the same time. Will either or both take hold and become used widespread among developers? Who knows, if they do then that makes the cards a much better value. If they don't then it definitely makes them not as appealing.

    I upgraded to a 2070 from a 780 so I did get a huge performance boost but I am disappointed in its price point. I was really hoping it would be cheaper. I basically got a 1080. I had initially wanted a 1080ti to upgrade to, but they have basically sold out anywhere that would offer me a good 3 year warranty. So I went with this. It wasn't a bad purchase, but it's really not a good purchase either. Compared with the 1070 this is actually a really bad launch. The 1070 had a performance boost over the 980ti for $200 less. I was really expecting this to perform better than a 1080ti which I wanted in the first place, I just waited way too long to upgrade because of the crypto mining boom. Nvidia is asking me to take their word that Ray Tracing and DLSS will be worth the extra money which I can't do. So to anybody thinking of upgrading to this card. I would only say you should, If like me you are upgrading from something now a few generations or more behind. I really hope it performs well on the Acer X34P as that is the monitor I am upgrading to.

    2070? Meh. Thats what i think. Waiting 2 years for something we already have. Reflections ? We had those for years, fake ones? Don't care, they look perfect to me. I can wait 1-2 more generations before we see real reflections with stable fps and good resolution. People tend to play with 120-144 hz nowdays. It aint just about 60 fps (or 1080p) anymore. Call me again when RTX can deliver 144 hz and reflections (and price)
    Till then fps is king.

    Jay, you asked for our opinions, and I'm gonna give mine.
    I just got done completely building a new machine for myself and I have had several interesting things happen along the way, one of which was the 2070.
    I was trying to buy a 1080, or 1080TI because a few months ago the price point on the TI especially used really wasn't bad at all, (bitcoin tanking and people selling off their cards...)
    I didn't know much about the 20 series and when I saw they were basically comprable to their cheaper bretheren, I saw no need to get one.
    Well, by the time I'd saved enough to get a card, the 2070 xc ultra was still 550$, and beat out 1080's in most tests while the 1080ti had skyrocketed to ridiculous costs as vendors ran out.
    So I got a 2070xc and honestly I'm glad I did.
    Yeah, the costs on these things are ridiculous, but I tend to try to buy something that's going to last me a few years instead of going cheap every 6 months.
    This puppy really does seem like it will be a good performer and I'm glad I got it.
    I also think the unused portions of the cards will give me that flexibility in the future where a 1080 simply wouldn't.
    Now to be fair, I think I got a good chip as far as the gpu goes, but the memory...not so much.
    300mhz oc on the memory, and I think 115 ish on the chip. It will hit 2055mhz before it crashes under stress, but the great thing is with the bigger fans on the xcultra it never really goes over about 55c...so the ray tracing and tensor cores could add a lot of heat to it without it being an issue. Even if it added 15-20c it shouldn't cause any real problems.
    Anyway, thanks for the video

    I don't understand how the 2070 beats last generation in gaming if it's priced ***STARTING AT*** 500 dollars because when you compare it to a 1080 which had a 500 dollar MSRP at launch it puts up pretty much the same performance. You are actually better off buying a used Pascal card in my opinion because if RTX is anything like the tomb raider leaks it's gonna be lackluster.

    So basically for someone in my position, (OC'd 8700k, Strix 1080, 1440p 75hz monitor) were screwed. 1080ti's aren't a massive leap over the 1080, but do perform better (again, not drastically at my resolution) but the 1080ti's are impossible to find new anywhere here in the US for a fair price. The 2080ti costs well over $1000, ($1300+, IF YOU CAN EVEN FIND ONE), and the 2080 costs what a 1080ti used to and performs about the same. I'd be getting like a 10% imrpovement, strictly speaking FPS wise. Trouble for me is, even OC'd my 1080 has a hard time in certain games achieving 75 fps at 1440p. So I want a new card that can for sure handle 75fps on ultra settings, but theres no card readily available thats remotely fairly priced that can do what I'd like. The 2080 vs 1080ti comparison is tough because performance wise they seem to be within 10% of eachother, but specs wise the 1080ti has the 2080 beat. One of those two is nearly impossible to find new, the other is an extremely poor value.

    I think third party developer's should start making cards more durable rather then trying to make them overclockable. I should put this is context: my father's computer used to have a 128 bit graphic card. The card never died during the 15 years that computer worked. It was simply obsolete by then and could not be used in any new build. But that is a testament to it's durability. I bought my first graphic card in 2009 it was an xfx gtx 295 dual core. I ran every game that worked on dx10 on that card including the infamous crysis. That card lasted 5 years before dying spectacularly damaging my Mobo as it died. I won't argue here about fail safes that should be on a motherboard to protect connected devices, but point is that it died in 5 years compared to my father's graphic card. After it died I bought a gtx 980ti from gigabyte. I was already taken aback by it's shoddy build quality. The 3 fans were programmed to spin at up to 2000 rpm but the fans were built as fragile as a fly's wing. The only thing keeping the fan head connected to the rotary motor axle was a 3 armed clamp only a millimeter in size. As I expected they did not last. Within 1 year the first fan snapped. I removed it. The next year I lost the second one. Now I had a problem, with only one fan the card could not possibly keep the GPU cool enough to run anything. So I tried to jury rig 60mm fans on the metal shroud only to realize gigabyte made the fan connectors backward to prevent anyone from using alternate models of fans on the card. U either buy more of those shoddy gigabyte fans or risk burning out ur card. I took a third option, I bought two 140mm non-pwm fans from corsair and ziptied them to the shroud over the 1st and 3rd fan ports. I left one fan on the center port so the GPU would detect a working pwm fan and set it to never spin so it would not break. The design worked and my card was running cooler then before. But ultimately the card died the third year.
    15 years, 5 years, and now 3 years. I am no expert but a GPU is the second most heavily used part of a PC after the PSU, how can graphic card manufacturer justify making their build quality worse with every new generation of GPU. This part of a PC should last as long as a decade without hiccups yet they are breaking down faster and faster. If cooling is an issue shouldn't the shroud design and wiring be versatile enough to allow people more or better options for cooling? I am paying as much as my entire PC is worth for a GPU then shouldn't I be entitled to a guarantee by it's makers that this overpriced hardware will serve my needs for 10 years before failing?

      How hard is it to spot high binned parts before purchase?

    • @sol666
      @sol666 5 лет назад

      @@coopergates9680 recent reports suggest even the third party nvidia GPU makers didn't know what they were getting either. The whole priority sales partners getting better quality GPU through binning was a bold faced lie. The only truth here is the worst quality GPU have more useless cores and are used for low end GPU models in a family based on how many usable GPU cores are available. Higher quality GPU have more functioning cores and therefore used for the high end GPU models in a family. As far as their life expectancy is concerned there is no way of knowing either way whether they will die on you in 5 years, 1 year or in 1 minute after u use it. It could die because of faulty circuitry in the GPU or because it is overheating while doing what it is supposed to do, this has happened with GeForce 3 series (the Nvidia card that was used in the first xbox). That's what replacement warranties are for. Best to buy a GPU new with a warranty preferrably 3-5 years long if possible. Because u never know how good the GPU is going to work.

The 2070 is supposed to be a direct successor to the 1070 so they should be compared with attention given to the ridiculous price rise. "it beats the previous generation at the same price point" Some people are going to take that as it is the same price as the 1070, which it isn't. If the best card for my budget within my criteria, relative to all other cards, happens to have extra stuff that are presently useless...I don't care.

    Hey Jayz, thoughtful, well done review, but still, I miss something:
    With cards that are close in price and performance, I really miss the power each draws to produce their results.
    And you're NOT comparing cooling solutions capability in your open test-bench - you're comparing the combo of TDP and cooling solution. Temps should always be correlated with power-draw.
    Given nearly equal performance, you'd buy the one that draws less power and stays coolest both, if possible.
    My final point would be, that in the computer business, an investment in the "future" is always a bad one for consumers / users. Only large tech corporations or tech journalists *can* make that work for themselves.
    I'd keep buying 1080 TI's on ebay for another 2 Years unless Nvidia drops prices. (cause I don't think we'll see anything useful from the new bits of architecture till then), UNLESS you stumble over a specific game that just won't run well at the resolution you want, and ~30% more would actually solve the problem.

    When games are optimized correctly for AMD hardware schedulers, it runs on par or better against a lot of nivida cards. Lazy developers produce lazy results. Lower level APIs are up and coming and slowly coming to fruition now. Hopefully we see all products run better because this. Nvidia brute forces older APIs with raw power and AMD gets left behind due to these lazy reasons. Proper vulkan and Dx12 shows this already.

    • @Kirinketsu_
      @Kirinketsu_ 6 лет назад

      you are so wrong, Nvidia sinks resources into the games were AMD does not, and what has shown in the past when a game has AMD tag on it Nvidia always seems to be gipped as were most of the issue with Nvidia tag game and AMD performance comes with Nvidia GameWork features, its not just up to the game developers to optimize their games for said GPU its also on the GPU manufacturer to optimize their GPUs for the top games on the market to make people want to buy their GPU to gain the most FPS
      Also Nvidia does not brute force APIs with raw power, they do it with optimization typical AMD GPUs are more powerful than Nvidia GPU I.E they run on larger BUS but that does not matter if you are not optimizing your GPUs to play the current popular titles

      @@Kirinketsu_ I'm not wrong in the slightest. If a game is poorly optimized from the get go not taking advantage of hardware in general on all mainstream gpus, the team working on the games are setting the GPU manufactures up for failure from the get go. Of course there are nvidia and AMD sponsored titles. DOOM was the shining example of hardware/software implementation. AMDs GCN hardware schedulers were fully taken advantage of in that title and showed great gains in vulkan where as nvidia didnt show remotely close to the same gains that AMD because of proper implementation for both cards and 10 series having a lack of hardware schedulers. (2xxx supposed to have some). AMD can do minimal optimizations on their driver end to help but not nearly as much unless they have the time and money to sink into assisting developers in these regards which the company im sure is limited in their budget to do so.

    Reposting from another post:
    Presumably, the 2070 has the same binning system as the 2080 and 2080ti. If so that means the "reference" 2070 is the one on the "lower grade" chip and not permitted to be factory overclocked. If AIB partners are selling at prices closer to the already overclocked "founders edition" cards, then it is likely that they are selling the "higher grade" chips that are permitted to be factory overclocked.
    If all of this confusion is correct, then we will eventually get the lower grade chips being sold by AIB partners at closer to MSRP. In fact you may see more of those lower grade chips on sale once AMD release Navi. Especially if at the high end Navi is on par with the RTX2080 just as the RX Vega 64 was in the same bracket as the GTX 1080 and not the GTX 1080ti as countless reviewers started running comparisons of because of the retailer inflated pricing.
    I watched Jesen's 2hour presentation and from the very get go reviewers have been confused by the change in strategy by Nvidia regarding their founders edition cards. So they keep referring (in some cases) to the FE cards are reference cards even though they are not. I for one can see why Nvidia did this especially after the crypto excuse for price gouging by retailers last year. So with Nvida selling overclocked cards directly; something I hope AMD eventually start doing too, it means that there is, in theory at least, an upper limit price control. If, I don''t know some store, CanCompParts decides to put an asking price of US$1500 on the ROG RTX 2080 (not the RTX 2080ti), and I can get the, again OVERCLOCKED RTX 2080ti FE card directly from Nvidia, then I will know CanCompParts are price gouging and trying to rip consumers off so I would go directly to Nvidia. This type of shopping around is something reviewers and tech journalists should educating gamers and people buying these cards on rather than simply attacking Nvida on the pricing of the Turing cards. Jensen earlier in the year did say GPU prices weren't going down anytime soon, so this level of pricing should have been expected.
    Basically in what I see as Nvidia's new FE pricing setup, US$50-US$200 (depending on AIB overclock and other customizations) above the OVERCLOCKED Founders Edition card price becomes an upper limit for the pricing of these cutdown Volta GPUs Nvidia named Turing. Only EVGA KINGPIN or custom PCB or water cooled and equivalent RTX 2080ti/2080/2070 GPUs should justify a price mark-up close to the US$200 level.
