We had an amazing FiV+ cat who was an outdoor intact male. He would visit for food and shelter. One day he appeared to us badly beaten up from a fight. A trip to the emergency hospital revealed he was FiV+ and had a fever. He healed and came inside to live with us for 15 years (in his own room). You would never know he was FiV+ (he was tested at 2 different times). Thankfully he stayed healthy until the last 9 months (muscle loss). I miss the hell out of Doodlebug. He was a sweetheart who was dearly loved.
This is what our vet told us our baby had and we had never heard of this prior to her contracting it, she was rushed in very early in the morning not able to breathe and the said her lungs had filled up with a thick mucus that they could not even drain so we unfortunately had to say our goodbyes a very heartbreaking time for quite a while after, but we think she already had this when we took her in, but the memories she gave us will last forever.
There are differing opinions on this. Many cat owners have FIV + and FIV- cats that live together in harmony without FIV being transmitted. As long as they dont bite, it isn't a problem. It is only "highly infective" with deep bites. Vets need to stop offering euthanasia just because a cat is FIV+.☹️ Not all of them have problems with stomatitis either.
This, oh my gosh. 3 of our 4 cats are ex-strays. The second turned up with FIV several months after we had our first (though I'm starting to wonder if was a false postive despite TWO tests because while he's gotten sick he's shaken things off really well and is otherwise robustly healthy). Our FIV+ boy is a lovely housecat, happy to cuddle with his first brother, wrestles hard with the little sister and is still adjusting to the 4th. He is in no way an aggressive cat and at MOST might swat at someone for getting on his nerves. He was also somewhere around 2. . .which means its likely pretty prevalent in our area, though then how our more territorial first didn't have it, who knows.. . 2nd boy was intact though.
My cat Onyx has FIV, he's 5 years old. He was dropped off to a shelter as a baby with his brother and another cat at the shelter bit him and gave him FIV. He's indoors with my other cat Binx who has Crohn's disease, they're perfect together. I have them on a good diet and they're both doing great! As soon as he has a flare up I get antibiotics and he's under control again. Perfect loving cats!
Thank you for all the information but I must say that the music is too loud. I would prefer a video without music or just on low volume in the background. Thanks🙏🏻
I only keep animals I get together to make sure they get along. Always indoor cats. I got one pair of kittens from a pet store. Dead of FIV before their first birthday. Got another set of kittens from a shelter - barely old enough to be neutered. Dead a month later - both. Scrubbed the house. Scrubbed litter pans (stainless steel). Got new kittens from a different shelter. Dead at six months. Couldn't face it again for over a year. My mother (I was a kid) even after all the shots/neutering found an advertisement of someone with a litter of eight giving away kittens. I hesitated and went. There was a litter of eight white males running around like a herd of horses. I picked two and hoped for the best. Isolated them and scrubbed the house again with mom. Released them - and they survived. Died of old age. Grown, I got two ginger kittens from a local shelter (different state). I noticed fast the wasting, all too familiar. Took him to my vet and confirmed the worst. Had him put down then. Couldn't watch it again. Watched the other kitten and had him tested - never turned up positive right up until the end. What he died of was a stroke. We took in my mother's cat after she died. He's fine. When he dies, I'll be too old for kittens. Thought about finding two grown cats about to be destroyed by the shelter for age. They should be right. They should die when I'm 78-82.
I have read more than once that FIV positive cats can live with FIV negative cats in “stable” (non-fighting) cat households. There is conflicting information being given by vet professionals and respected, knowledgeable cat advocates. Which is true??
Anecdote: I have a stable household of four. One has FIV and is the least likely to cause problems. . .the most he might do is lightly swat at someone for annoying him. Our vet says so long as they are all stable, and no fighting not to worry about it and just stay on top of things.
My 15 year old MoMo had a fight with a stray cat who i had never seen before and when i took her to the vet, a blood test revealed that she had FIV. I remember the vet saying MoMo could last another 5 years, or it could be 5 months. In the end it was 3 months before i had to get him euthanised. It was horrible.
Hi! I had 1 FIV cat for 3 years. And he was as if normal cat. He was already 5 years old. Last 2 weeks ago I had 1 cat diagnosed of FIP. Can you please educate us about FIP and is there a cure for this sickness? Thank you
My cat has been diagnosed twice w/it. It was the same place a year apart. But he shows zero symptoms. He's very healthy, active, silly, & sweet. So not sure what's in the future w/ this.
My comments have nothing to do with FiV. We have a Torti, she was a Ferrell Cat. Shes had 5 kittens this last march. We've kept all 6. We had her spaded along with her daughter, a Torti also. Male nudered they are inside/outside cats. At night we keep them in. Patches, the mom, just started urinating on on our bed or couch and she has a cats box, 2 of them, she shares. They are kept clean. My wife doesn't want her in the house and kept in thr garage, which Patches hates it. Any ideas why shes doing this? Help! Its gettimg cold and i hate having her outside! Thanks, Cory n Cheryl.
So we rescued a male kitten a few months ago and he was sick when we got him. He has the same upper respiratory signs and symptoms. His eyes were so swolllen and matted I assumed he had distemper but vet said no just a respiratory infection. He gets these respiratory illnesses atleast once or twice a month. He isn’t fixed yet because he doesn’t stay healthy long enough for us to have it done. Is it possible for a male kitten to have FIV? He sneezes constantly and snores and his nose runs.

Thank you for this info.
So much valuable information! Love this channel. ❤️
I have 3 indoor only cats. Is it still necessary to get these vaccinations for FIV?

This is such a horrible disease. I lost my Snooky to it. He was such a sweet boy and fought hard to live but in the end lost the fight 😿

Your vet should be able to test a kitten 6-8 weeks old or older for FIV/FELV.
