Stuttering really does baffled our society, because they don't understand how one moment you can be fluent and then next you are stuttering. Most people don't understand how unpredictable it can be. I can remember when I was stuttering and one woman thought I was having a stroke because of the strange movements in my jaw, the emotional and physiological impact to stuttering is the most dangerous side to having a stutter. Most people see stuttering as a minor issue which really annoys me.
Yes it does. People don't understand it because they're not used to hearing it on a regular basis. Imagine how different people's reactions would be if they heard stuttering all the time.
Omg for me this is the worst feeling ever! I honestly feel so awkward and embarrassed by that and I feel like I am different and people look at me differently and can sometimes make fun of me over that. It makes me so depressed too. Your videos really do help me and make me feel happier about myself and I feel like I am not the only one that does this. Your so brave and are such an inspiration :)
Not that I'm happy other people experience the same crap that I go through, but it's very encouraging and uplifting even just hearing another person stutter. I've actually never met another stutterer, and listening to you stutter is almost therapeutic, in a weird way. I don't feel so alone in my struggle. Just to know there are other people who have had the same experiences I've had, like the embarrassment, the anxiety, low self esteem, etc, really makes me feel better about myself. I've stuttered since I was a tot, and I also have asthma, which is a HORRIBLE combination. A particularly bad stutter can leave me out of breath, which in turn makes me much more likely to stutter, which will leave me even more out of breath, -you get the picture. Just saying a few sentences can leave me exhausted. Sorry, I don't know why I'm telling you, I guess it's nice to talk to someone about it, which I never really have. Thank you for these encouraging videos.
I know what you mean how nice it is to hear someone else stutter. Before starting this channel I hardly knew anyone that stuttered and I always felt very different in not a good way. I'm so glad to now meet people who stutter virtually from all around the world! Feel free to say what ever you need to get off your chest on my channel. It helps to talking to other people :)
I know how you feel I'm trying not to let it bother me for new year's resolution but obviously I stuttered myself today as well. I think workplaces need to have stutter awareness & know how to cope if they come face to face with a stutterer as it will happen. Have a good weekend.
I stutter and have for as long as I can remember. I've had many instances like that. I had a tick to where when I hit a block I would bite my lip to the point that I made my lip bleed which caused a saliva gland to rupture in my lip which caused a huge bubble to appear on my lip randomly at times which had to be surgically removed. I'm 22 and I don't care as much as I did now that I stutter but it is hard to find confidence and worth in my everyday life with my stutter. That's what I'm struggling with now
That's very sad Mariah I am sorry. I would pinch myself sometimes when I would be in a block on a word. I try to relax myself as much as possible but it can be hard at times. I am totally with you how it can be very hard to find worth and confidence. What helps me is trying to be as positive as possible while I am trying to get a word out. Try and stay strong
Thanks for sharing your experience Minka. These videos help me as I am a father of a 7 yoa daughter who stutters. Keep up the great videos. They are very helpful.
I'm so sorry this happened. I have been there many different times... oh yes. I think i might wright a book about it one day. I think it is great that you did not get a different drink and stick with what you wanted :)
You should keep your head high. You are one awesome human being and I started watching you yesterday and it made me feel better because I have stuttering problem too, but I don't stutter a lot actually, the anxiety that I created is much worse and I let stutter control my life which is horrible. I want to get over it and start living normally. It all started two years ago and I cannot stay focused or concentrated in important things because of it :/ So I definitely feel your pain and worries and thumbs up for all of us stutterers! We are awesome 👌 ❤
Necianium Thank you for your kind comment. The anxiety for me is actually worse than the stuttering itself! I'm trying to work on living my life normally as well. and yes we are awesome! :)
omg I can relate to this! I stopped going to subway altogether because I can't say pepperjack cheese and I was tired of getting cheddar cheese. My chest would tense up, heart pounds fast and my hands would shake. It's really awful!
I too, have trouble speaking. Especially to strangers. I dont know about anybody else, but i literally will not talk on the phone if i dont have to. I even have trouble trying to talk to my own daughter. So, we usually will just text each other.
I remember an assignment for my speech class had me ordering a pizza over the phone (which I had never done, and haven't done since) and the employee hung up on me when I started stuttering, ha.
I don't want to say, "yay! you were only depressed, not horribly anxious!" But, I do think it's a really big deal that you didn't have all those awful anxiety effects. That's a huge change, isn't it? This is just my feeling, but I think that eventually too the bad depressed feelings will become less. Also, I'm really glad you didn't change your order! Ordering at Starbucks is like a perfect storm -- the pressure to order, the ridiculous long names they have for everything which can be confusing all by themselves, then they have to ask your name on top of all of that! I do not have a stutter, but adding a stutter to that is....ha, it's just crazy. But, Minka, I really feel that videos like yours and others from people who stutter being honest about what it's like are really really good and needed for everybody. They make a difference. There are always going to be some nasty people, but most are like this Starbucks guy -- just didn't quite know what was going on or what to do. And even with him, if you see him again, even if your stuttering is just as bad, it might not feel as bad. People can learn that it's not Tourette's, not a seizure, not a stroke, not (just) nervousness, not a question of "slowing down," not because you're "slow"....all of the things people think (and even say!) because they just haven't heard many people stutter openly. I don't know you, but I am proud of you!
Yes you are right. The Starbucks guy wasn't being mean at all or anything. He just didn't know how to react. And I don't blame him because many people have never heard someone who stuttered before so it can be very different to hear when you first hear it. I am so glad you enjoy my videos. I try to make them for people who do stutter and people who don't. Thank you for taking the time to comment and watch my video. Have a wonderful day!
You’re so adorable!! :). I almost never see a female stutterer. It’s actually cute :). It’s really sad we can’t text and type our way through life. People with physical disabilities have provisions made for them but we don’t. Unfortunately that won’t ever change :(.
Why is something thats stuttering, something that gives her anxiety and pain cute to you.Its a very degrading thing you said. You might think you gave her a compliment.,She is a besutiful brave lady.Like all of us who are stuttering. I was told same thing when a girl told me my stuttering made me cute. Its showed she didnt get the impact stuttering had on me at all.
I've had the same problem I wish I could say it right away but then it hits you your just like come on words just come out already. Also to make your day your awesome and a great inspiration to me and all your subscribers
Minka, have you considered speaking in one of your accents? I found it fascinating that you do not stutter when you speak with an accent. I have been tempted to try that at times but my accents are all ridiculous. Wouldn't it be nice if we could just sing everything? I never stammer when I sing!
I thought it was just me ...spelling my name out...then you find out , although i have trouble conversing they are completely unable to spell....ohhh the irony...
the problem is we forget about the breathing thing while talking. stay positive and be strong. I always think about : what if I want to call 911, how do i make the sentence ? lol
Minka Frederika Well Minka we share the same problem but the difference that you let it go. If I were in your same situation I will be crying all day and it will take a while to forget. Just stay strong 💪🏼 💌
I would suggest writing it down. Of course it doesn't really help the self esteem but maybe to make it easier on yourself. Also, sometimes I just say a random name and it's not a big deal. Maybe try saying a name that is really easy for you to say. ❤

Dean Gillard Yes! I have that same feeling of feeling so different. It makes me very self-conscious.

Mark Stewart I agree, work places need to be more aware. And that is a great New Years resolution. Have a great weekend Mark!

You should definitely write a book! Good luck :)

Omg so sad! And I LOVE pepperjack cheese!! I feel like everything I like to order at Starbucks I can hardly say. Ugh so frustrating.
Thank you for sharing this. I had many experiences like this in high school and it really helps that I’m not alone in feeling this way.
I love you Minka!! :D You're awesome!
BeautyOfArt93 I love you too!! You rock
Honestly I think your stutter is super cute 🥰 I love the way you talk I could listen to you all day.
I too, have trouble speaking. Especially to strangers. I dont know about anybody else, but i literally will not talk on the phone if i dont have to. I even have trouble trying to talk to my own daughter. So, we usually will just text each other.
What a sad, frustrating experience, but so nice you are so positive and see the good side of it...thank you for sharing:)))
Terri Koopman Yes! it was very frustrating!!
It is good when people aren't an ass about it.
Gothmatix I agree. He just looked awkward and was trying to understand me
I remember an assignment for my speech class had me ordering a pizza over the phone (which I had never done, and haven't done since) and the employee hung up on me when I started stuttering, ha.
That's so sad! I always hated ordering pizza over the phone because of those reasons. Ugh the struggle! :P

Yay! I am so glad. I currently live in the US.
The worst to me aswell..ordering food via telephone or to any counter :(
Ugh yes same with me! I get so nervous ordering at restaurants.
You are brutally honest. I love it.
Thank you!
Minka Frederika I could probably never be that honest about my speech publicly like that. You are better than me.
Your videos really inspire me
Thank you! I'm glad you love my videos :)

I actually did order at Starbucks with a British accent before. It was fun actually!
Ordering from starbucks gives me so much anxiety. I got the app and order on mobile now which saves me the embarrassment lol
I don't blame you haha
I thought it was just me ...spelling my name out...then you find out , although i have trouble conversing they are completely unable to spell....ohhh the irony...
Oh for God sake , Give me somethink to drink!! haha. Yeah... that sort of things happens...
Haha! Yes for sure.

wooooow lol that is insane
the problem is we forget about the breathing thing while talking. stay positive and be strong. I always think about : what if I want to call 911, how do i make the sentence ? lol
Very true. I forgot to breath all the time while talking lol.
when are you gonna start making videos?
I started again yesterday after taking a social media break! I posted it already.
ohhh. i gat to go check now.
Did he laugh at you?
Bader Bebo Nope he didn't actually!
Minka Frederika Well Minka we share the same problem but the difference that you let it go. If I were in your same situation I will be crying all day and it will take a while to forget. Just stay strong 💪🏼 💌
I have definitely cried from situations like this and I did almost feel like crying but didn't this time :)
Can you plz do the video of you talking to siri
why ? Would it be funny or what?
I want to see siri respond to her stuttering while talking to her
I would suggest writing it down. Of course it doesn't really help the self esteem but maybe to make it easier on yourself. Also, sometimes I just say a random name and it's not a big deal. Maybe try saying a name that is really easy for you to say. ❤
Tomato Potato I've said a random name before. I try not too though because my self-esteem started going way down when I did. But it helps sometimes!
😘😘😘 very nice girl
:)
I hate my stammer too
Stay strong! We're all in this together :)
Good for you for not switching your order to something you'd be more fluent saying. That's a win.
Christopher Groves Yes. I close to switching it but man I really wanted that Peppermint Hot Chocolate!
Dunkin Donuts and profit
Yup!
