The solution isn't quick, but it really isn't complicated...drafting is the key to everything. The Flyers shouldn't even think about signing a big free agent for a few years. They need to trim 25-30m from the cap, not add to it. For all the bad things Fletcher has done the best thing he did was not signing Gaudreau hands down. The Flyers absolutely lack the catalyst for this team. The player or players that are threats night in and night out, the ones that create the chaos for others teams. They have some decent pieces to complement that catalyst, but not the spark. The ONLY way to get that is drafting, either with a mix of luck and finishing poorly over time or really pick a gem in the rough. I am not confident in the Flyers organization in doing either right now. Most likely they won't be lucky enough to get Bedard, but the job of the GM right now is to put them in better situations to obtain that player(s). Scoring by committee with average skill is the easiest path to mediocrity. Signing a 27+ year old will never be the answer at the beginning. By the time the Flyers build around that player they will be in their 30's and on the down. You can try and trade for that player, but then the team has to gut their future that would be used to build around that player and back in the same situation. 1) They need to cut the cap dramatically either with smart trades or with time. 2) Draft much much better. Only options the team has to get better.
Good points, which highlight a few of the many flaws of this team. 1. They’re in Cap ‘Hell’, thanks partly due to the contracts handed out to the likes of Risto, Hayes, Coots, and Ellis (most of whom have have spent more time in the ‘sick ward’ than the ice). As a result, no $$ available to pull-off a trade to upgrade the team or add a much-needed sniper. 2. Agreed that they have to draft better…hard to do when they draft ‘ Projects’ and Stiffs, many of whom never make it to the NHL. That team on the other side of the Commonwealth ( the one we love to hate) always seems to strike gold’ no matter what round they draft from. These are tasks that a Flyers GM (several of whom were former Flyers) tends to ignore. Also very telling is when an ex-Eagles Official (Joe Banner) offered his services to then-GM Bob Clarke on how the salary cap works… and Clarke refused his help. As a result, the lack of creativity, ingenuity, and shrewdness of a Flyers GM is on full display on the ice come game-time…every…single…game.
Good discussion and many good points were made here. You can analyze a hundred different ways. The bottom line is they are a team with too many AHL level players. Yes, the Flyers have had awful GMs...Clarke, Holmgren, Fletcher, etc. This team has been struggling for so long, but they never change their ways. Until they start getting better talent, either through the draft and/or free agent signings nothing will change. We can only hope that Briere or a GM to be named later will be able to find better talent.
This should have been done at least a few weeks ago or more. Briere should have had the deadline to start his audition. This is a start, a change was needed. Is Briere the answer? Who knows but it’s a start.
Hextall passed on drafting Makar, and between him and Fletcher they have destroyed this team. The Flyers will not be relevant for years. Fletcher was not brought in to "rebuild" and had to sell the BS of a "retool", and that is from Comcast management. Dave Scott is also a HUGE part of the problem here.
I used to be a die hard Flyers fan. I think that Holmgren's last FU to the Flyers, before he got promoted, was to hire Fletch. I think he hired Fletch because he beat out Holmgren for those 2 10 year contacts for Parise an Sutter a free years back. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Fletch's moves over the last couple of years kept the Flyers just good enough to keep them out of the running for Bedard (an alleged generational player). If you look at the teams that are winning the cup. You'll see that they are terrible for 8-10 years. During those years, they are accumulating high draft picks, a couple of no 1's, and another 3-5 top 10's. Fletch was just keeping the Flyers in a position of perpetual mediocrity. I haven't watched a Flyers game in over 2 years. I don't miss it.
May I also add…Billy Barber, Dave Brown, Kjell Samuelsson, Al Hill, Sam Morin (? LOL), Wade Clarke, and Jody Clarke…just to name a few. Every ex-Flyer ( and their family members) taking up time and space in the Front Office need to go. This was at one time a professional hockey club…not a refuge for any Flyer ever to wear the uniform. They all played an active role in ruining this club, and should follow Chuck and Dave out the door.
Way past time to make a GM change. 2 years late. Hope DB can turn out to be a great team builder and get the flyers back to the top. Chuck Fletcher was the worst hire they ever made. Totally incompetent.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
About two years too late but at least they did it soon and not wait another 5 years like usual, and at least he didnt screw us as bad as he left the WIld. I do not envy whoever is gonna have to try to pick up the pieces next, especially with the Philly fanbase being as impatient as they are. Hextall was building something special, but the fans and the ownership group didnt feel like waiting so they rushed to hire Paul Holmgren 2.0.
@@julianc6863 But the Wild have been ruined with terrible salary cap moves..........maybe I havent paid attention but I dont think we're that bad are we?
One of few good move Fletcher made the Trade of Giroux have a good player ( Tippett) and the first round pick and dont sign Gaudreau maybe good with a lot a bad contracts the team have
Keep briere as g.m. Tear down the team to all your young talent .as far as veterans keep tk ,couts ,hart, frost ,Tippett ,Allison ,fArabee and any of the kids they have drafted from 2019 on..everybody get rid of.
This team is burdened by Chuck's long term contracts, overpaid journeymen, poor drafts, an even worse development program. Throw in mysterious injuries that put players out for months or years. A clueless training / medical / rehab staff. Their 5th best player may have been Sedlak, a waiver wire pickup for a bag of hockey pucks. He saw how dysfunctional this organization was, quit the team & went to play in Russia instead
The time has come to clean house. Get rid of the "Good Old Boys" of Clarke, Holmgren, et al, and start new. Holmgren, Hextall, and Fletcher have DECIMATED this franchise. And stop with the Gaudreau BS. He WAS NOT what was needed at this point for this terrible team, and he is doing little to nothing with Columbus. It is time for a complete rebuild and let Briere have a REAL hockey staff and see what he can do
Worst GM in Philly sports history but the clowns above him who approved all these LT contracts he needs gone. I mean to give Sanhiem that deal this year was unbelievable. Considering all the money and assets wasted on D men
🚨Flyers fire general manager Fletcher

Cannot wait to see what Briere can do
Finally it’s about time . I have been screaming for this since December
I’ve been screaming since not pursuing Johnny Hockey.
Happy Day for the Flyers 🧡

Agree with you Glee well said
Glak sorry the Flyers have no choice
Spot on bro! Totally agree about Gaudreau and cutting the cap and starting over

Love Morganti right away
If Torts gets a GM who backs his strategy and accountability plays with players the team has a chance to turn it around.
It's a start! Let's go Flyers!

Always good to here als point of view on the flyers
The problem with the Giroux trade is it should have never needed to happen in the first place.
This should have been done at least a few weeks ago or more. Briere should have had the deadline to start his audition. This is a start, a change was needed. Is Briere the answer? Who knows but it’s a start.

About time.
It's about damn time find a real hockey GM hire new medical staff hire people that know how to draft and evaluate and develop Talent
Exactly

I hope Danny is the guy for the job
Now get rid of Holmer, Clarke, and Comcast also
I agree totally

As long as Comcast owns the team it doesn't matter who the GM is..
Means nothing if the boys club in the front office aren't gone as well, whole organization needs to clean house.
Yes god damn it Yes. About time they got rid of him. Now let's rebuild
It all starts with this year's draft
Incredible the Flyers they dont Pick the big right Defensemen David Jiricec nothing against Gauthier 🏒🤔
He is right.
Think about the horrible contracts he gave out or took on:
Risto
Sanheim
Coots
Ellis
Hayes
Atkinson
DeAngelo
Deslaurier
Way past time to make a GM change. 2 years late. Hope DB can turn out to be a great team builder and get the flyers back to the top. Chuck

Disagree, you need someone from the outside, need new eyes to look over the team to see what they have. Don't trade Carter Hart.

Hextall didn’t do anything special except draft Hart and overvalue everyone else. He’s about to be run out of Pittsburgh
Dude he screwed the Flyers just as bad as the Wild. Atleast with Wild he drafted Kaprizov.
@@julianc6863 But the Wild have been ruined with terrible salary cap moves..........maybe I havent paid attention but I dont think we're that bad are we?
Ron Hextall hurt the Flyers a lot with His bad first round picks, the first round picks have to Play in the NHL at least
One of few good move Fletcher made the Trade of Giroux have a good player ( Tippett) and the first round pick and dont sign Gaudreau maybe good with a lot a bad contracts the team have
Who the heck is Jordan Hall? Makes NJ's Sam Kasan sound credible.
I have no hatred for Joe ,but at times listening to him try and talk, it’s like passing a kidney stone

Much more than that.. bad contract 2 .. Farbee Hayes Proverov bringing in shopping cart Ellis Risto so on .. Then the deadline he buried himself!
Fletcher was terrible!
Can that guy top left talk ok?

I think Sanhiem can be fixed. Just needs to be tougher. Can skate fast when he wants to.
Man that is one HUGE bald head!
Meanwhile the coach is retained ?..hmmm
Coach can't do anything, they don't have any NHL level Talent it's an AHL team
@@pilotguy1141 therefore his leash will be short, tough situation for the coach
He is a great coach why fire him!
@@boomer1049 apparently 👌
The key is Danny Brière and Torts are on the same page otherwise that Will be long 😥🏒
Another old flyer😔 same sang and dance that’s why I don’t watch anymore👎 went through is with Clarke, Holmgren, hextall, and now briere 🙏🙏
Yep. We need new and fresh vision
Ur loyal
Not the same génération give a Little bit Time to Brière with His idea Who knows
