    I was born via cesarean at about 36 weeks gestation in 1983. My mom had been in labor for over 24 hours. I had respiratory distress at birth and developed sepsis and acidosis. I also had right ventricular hypertrophy. After being transferred to a better hospital I developed necrotizing enterocolitis. Thank you for this video! I have been trying to understand the complications I experienced at birth for a very long time, and this has helped more than any article I've found.

      How are you now.....my baby experienced same now at 36 week

    • @AxelLovesSomeone

      @@lakshminandish5037 I have chronic health issues, but generally feel ok most of the time. I have asthma, mitral valve prolapse and regurgitation, arthritis from pectus excavatum. But all in all, I'm pretty lucky. I know many babies don't survive diseases such as this, especially low birth weight and preemies, and a lot may have ongoing complications from it. I'm sure some of my issues stem from my health problems that occurred at birth, but I'm sure mine are mild compared to what many people experience. I'm 40 now and reasonably healthy, all things considered. Thanks for asking. How is your child now, and how old?

    • @AxelLovesSomeone
      @AxelLovesSomeone Год назад +1

      @@lakshminandish5037 I don't know anyone else who has had it. All I can say is do your best to avoid exposing your child to smoke and other things that can irritate the lungs. That goes for any child, even healthy children. Make sure you always follow doctors' recommendations. Make sure your child eats healthy meals and gets plenty of exercise. A baby who had RDS can live a long, healthy life. I was exposed to cigarette smoke a lot as a child, and some of my health problems are genetic. So I think your baby has great odds as long as you listen to doctors.

    So I'm assuming that at 2:35 the decrease surfactant production in the baby was due to the increase in insulin. Is this because insulin preoccupies the lung cells with glucose uptake, therefore interfering with the creation of surfactant protein? Or is the cell just lacking glucose (aka necessary energy) with which to make the surfactant protein?
