Very interesting, thanks! I used to run OS/2 in '93 (I think) and occasionally still miss it. It was ahead of its time.

I was always mainly a DOS/Windows user, but I ran OS/2 for a bit around 1995-1997. I multi-booted between that and Windows. I agree OS/2 was ahead of its time. It seemed that the better products often didn't stay around long and lost out to competitors.

It's still ahead of its time, given that today's desktops still lack even basic Workplace Shell features.
Back then all applications (even DOS and Windows applications,) easily integrated into the desktop. On 'modern' desktops, all applications are on their own again, to the point that each application comes with its own file manager.

I hope you have great success with the sale of the OS to retrieve the money you invested and that of others as well. If I knew about the changes you all made to the OS I would have been looking to buy it from you instead.

Hi, I am not selling this version. It is just something I made on my own for fun. Even if I would like to sell the clone it will not be possible due to license issues with IBM.

Good video, a lot of work was put into it I see. I find ArcaOS interesting

I have the latest version of OS/2 called ArcaOS 5.1 which is made by a different company and using drivers their engineers wrote along with drivers from IBM also. The OS have not been installed on a computer yet, but I plan to put it on a computer I have to get working perfectly and install a new drive in for the OS. I also have copies of version 3, and 4 of OS/2, and eComstation 1.0 which was almost the same as earlier versions of the OS.

I guess you mean ArcaOS 5.01. 5.1 is not available so far, the latest as of today (21st July 2019) is 5.03. Wish you luck!

@@SigurdWarp I purchased a copy of it from the company selling it, but have not installed it yet on any computer. I have to get one checked for problems and use it to install the OS on.

Do you by any chance know of any recent attempts to write new OS/2 programs? Most development nowadays seems to be about drivers and porting Linux applications (as mentioned in the video).
I still haven't found a modern IDE, for example. I'm exploring Workplace Shell programming, and the tools seem to be either command line (eg Watcom) or abandoned twenty years ago (eg VisualAge).

Hi, yes, there are attempts, please have a look at os2world.com, there you will find more informations. I am not a programmer but there are working on new programming tools.

Can you get me link to download this version? I understand: This version is unpublished. But I tried installing patchs on OS/2. Thank you.

Loved the content and info. But it sounds like you’re stopping the music completely when you do a voice over, then start it back at the beginning when the music comes in again. That’s really distracting. Why not just decrease the music volume JUST ENOUGH during the VO before pulling it back up. M?

So where do you get it? I see no link in the description.

Will this be available as an installable image or is it just a personal project?
