This devo is very relevant to me as well. As I listened, I realized I haven’t fully embraced the story I’m in. I accept it (widowhood, no family/children), but I don’t see the joy or beauty in it yet. I appreciated hearing Nouwen’s and John’s insights. I’m asking God for help to see my story as He sees it knowing it matters to Him. Very grateful for you all.
Since John started this series, I've been reflecting on my story and feeling a renewed sense of hope and direction. Though my age and health-marked by being overweight, having diabetes, and wearing a brace on my left leg-mean some bucket list items will remain unfinished, I've found new aspirations to pursue. At 68, my life is a tapestry of realized and deferred dreams, shaped by procrastination, fear, and the cloud of alcohol in my younger years. Despite these struggles, my faith in Jesus, which I embraced at 43, has been a source of comfort and guidance. My life is a story, but I realize I will never live the story I envisioned, especially with the heartache of not seeing my daughter for the past 10 years. Now, I'm learning to forgive my past mistakes and release the shame and guilt that once held me back. My faith in Jesus has shown me the power of redemption and new beginnings. Determined to live with purpose and passion, I chase my dreams with the fervor of my youth, trusting in God's plan for my life. I live one day at a time, starting each day with Psalm 118:24: "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."
@@brucebaker111 Bruce thank you we feel the disappointment in your words sharing your tender story May your faith stay strong that God knows your story and has never left your side. Trust in the one you’ve embraced and who cares for you. Bucky
Hi Bruce. I just wanted to thank you for sharing your story (you write really well😊). I read your testimony early this morning before heading out at the beginning of what I knew would be a challenging work day. The verse you shared - "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it", has been such an encouragement to me all day, and changed my heart attitude from one of discouragement to positive and joyful! Thank you for taking the time to share and thank you Lord for joy found only in You!🙌
@@AP-ex1zi Tomorrow, let the first thing you say be: “This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it (somehow).” Then… smile. :)
@@brucebaker111 Good Morning to you Bruce. I saw your comment on John's teaching about passing on joy and the verse made me smile (again!). A great reminder! I'm SO grateful that His mercies are new every morning🙌! Have a blessed and God filled day.
This is so relevant to me, my parenting journey, and my work. It is so difficult sometimes, but it is also a great joy and honor to work with people with mental illness and disabilities. Thank You, Jesus. ❤
Wow. So beautiful. I cried in the Home Depot parking lot! I could see the crowd and the worried looks on peoples faces… So beautiful “did you like my talk?”
Thank you for the challenge and the truth in your message. Ten toes forward! And wherever two or more are gathered, Jesus is with us. Important to remember with every encounter I have daily! ❤️
I have thanked God so many times for the privilege of working with people with developmental disabilities for 35 years In the group home setting. At the age of 22 not thinking at that time this is what I want to do. My first house was was 8 individuals that were from Willowbrook on Staten Island. If anyone knows that story. We were all around the same age. We grew up together, we learned together, we laughed & cried together. So blessed.🙏🏻
Thank you John and team as always for this incredible ministry into all our lives, and for being part of our stories! May God Richly, Richly, Richly bless you all too!❤
Thank you for these wonderful perspectives! Bill reminds me so much of our son Nathan who was born with down syndrome. He is now with the Lord, but for 16 years he beautifully shaped us In the midst of many tears and toil and taught us about true love. Oh how I miss his bear hugs!😊
Wow, Pam. Thank you for sharing about Nathan. This is bitter sweet to read. I'm sorry Nathan isn't here on Earth with you, but it's amazing to hear how he shaped you. We're so happy you're part of this community. - Brad
What a wonderful and humble story Henri Nouwen shares with us. Thank you John for making it relevant and motivating! I start my days with your podcasts, and am blessed, daily! ❤
Oh my, this brought me back to when I worked in several group homes for the disabled. It was difficult at times, yet so fulfilling. I still remember many of the clients there. This gave me a warm and excited feeling in my spirit....could this be a nudge to shift my story in a new direction? Lots to ponder.
