What makes the silent cartographer great is that it is literally an open world level. not just a sandbox that guides you along. from the very beginning, you can drive the ENTIRE circumference of the island. it is not blocked at all except for locked doors. but it is completely open map-wise.
People say The Library was the worst CE mission but i think Two Betrayals and Assualt On The Control Room are the worst ones. Say what you want about the library but at least it had action during the long journey. The others had action as well but it was so long that i died many times trying to spees run it, And i counted the number of enimies on the control Room level and it had of total of 400 enimies on the map.
Truth and reconciliation #1. I played on the first Xbox in 2001. I loved the first missions. An FPS where the loaded weapon I.e. magnum were useful (think cod at the time, ditch your given material). But then, the sniper rifle and turrets to shoot at 🥰. That being said. I came back after 15+ years on mcc. LASO for this mission 😫

I really like each and every CE level, despite their flaws, so it’s be hard for me to rank them all. But, The Silent Cartographer is my absolute favorite and is what convinced me to buy an Xbox/halo. Well done.
I agree that it does very well in continuing the gloomy oppressive atmosphere of the level 343 Guilty Spark. However the Flood in The Library once you get to the 3rd floor become less scary to the player, and more tedious. Also the design of the level severely lacks variety. There's hardly any points of interest within the level, everything you saw in the first floor is just repeated ad infinitum.
The Library (Stupidly long as you're crowded by Flood, it's not fun) Keyes (Liked the level at first but it's incredibly boring going back) Truth and Reconciliation (Love the outside part, the inside part gets repetitive easily) Assault on the Control Room (I love this level other than the fact that it is long and a little repetitive) Pillar of Autumn (Great intro mission to a great game, what else can I say?) Halo (I love the save the marines and drive to find the others aspect rather than just SHOOT EVERYTHING!) 343 Guilty Spark (Classic mission. The Flood cutscene, the gameplay. Though you can get lost very easily.) The Silent Cartographer (Love the driving parts so much but I hate how I get lost in it so easy.) The Maw (Classic Warthog run and some amazing gameplay before it.) Two Betrayals (Very mixed about this level. One point I love it because of the scenery, one point I hate it because of the crazy enemy count and that last part with the 2 Wraiths, two hunters, sword elite, and rocket launcher Flood (i think) so all you can do is run past and grab a banshee to end it, though I love the action, this just sucks)
Very much agree with the two betrayals bit. It's a very interesting mission and I did enjoy it up until that point you mentioned. I initially let the flood and covenant battle for a while until they were a bit weak, that way I could use rockets to deal with the wraiths without having to worry about rocket flood and the like. Still though I tried to kill all the enemies instead of just rushing to the banshee, so I ended up at low health and retreating, only to be surprised by 2 camo elites blocking my path. RIP
I just got to the part in two betrayals where you're fighting 2 wraiths on foot to try and get to the banshees behind them. It's a very long, drawn out fight with flood and covenant. And taking down 2 banshees even with a rocket launcher takes a while if you want to do so from a safe distance. I would use the plentiful ghosts that the level gives but there's a ledge at the only entrance to that area so I can't. Edit: this is on normal difficulty btw. First time actually going through the campaign
10. Library 9. Halo 8. 343 guilty spark 7. Two betrayels 6. Assault on Control room 5. Pillar of Autumn 4. Keys 3. Truth and Reconciliation 2. The Maw 1. The silent cartographer
An interesting list, some things I agree with, some things I don’t. The Pillar of Autumn doesn’t look bland, imo. 343 guilty spark was a fun mission, and I also didn’t have a problem with Key’s dying. I also didn’t have a problem with using your shields as an emp.
My opinion 10.The Library (repetitive as hell extremely boring) 9. Assault On The Control Room(so freaking long and too much pasted rooms, but has my personal favorite ending cut scene) 8.Keyes (obnoxiously intense with such a insane concentration of flood that it is almost to hard to enjoy. The death of Captain Keyes leaves question and fear going into the next mission though.) 7.Pillar of Autumn(super easy but is so refreshing to see everything “calm” before all he’ll breaks loose with the flood) 6. Halo(nice scenery and love the structure, but this level doesn’t seem very challenging unlike the others) 5.Truth and Reconciliation(I love the new covenant aliens and also like the trek to Captain Keyes, even though it’s super repetitive. I also like how they introduced the Control Room which also foreshadowed the Flood 4. The Maw(love the nostalgia of being back in the Pillar of Autumn though it seems pretty easy compared to the others) 3. Two Betrayals (there’s nothing bad about this level but there’s nothing especially good about it other than the challenge of the flood. I love the snow in this level) 2.The Silent Cartographer (I LOVE how it takes place on an island because it creates the remote, hidden aspect of the covenant trying to hide something. So refreshing to see the bright scenery after being in a ugly purple ship and I dark night) 1. 343 Guilty Spark(ALL TIME FAVORITE MISSON IN HALO. Has the best storyline and foreshadowing. Love the aspect of the flood and new antagonist and “protagonists” added in the end. That cut scene always gives me chills and I always remembered this level since I was 6 years old as one of my favorites.)
Got to disagree with a lot of what you've said, you describe most of the Halo missions in a negative way. Apart from Library which is obviously a terrible mission, every other Halo CE mission is amazing in its own way
Truth and Reconciliation, Assault On The Control, and The Silent Cartographer are probably my favorite levels in the game. When I think of the original Halo those levels are what come to mind.

The Maw- really love returning to the Autumn and the ruinous atmosphere it has, Warthog run is great if not a bit clunky 4. The Library- let me explain: I actually love this mission; the feeling of being surrounded on all sides by the Flood and pushing forward is terrifying and amazing, and although I hate the Flood in 2 and 3, I really enjoy the CE Flood encounters, as well as the shotgun’s OP-ness here 5. Keyes- most underrated mission, love how the previously monotonous corridors are now exciting with the Flood coming out of the ceiling, also the dark canyon section is kinda neat; also nowhere near as long 6. 343 Guilty Spark- very haunting and atmospheric, although I find the underground area confusing to navigate 7. Two Betrayals- just like it’s counterpart, this goes on for too long but is much more atmospheric and dynamic 8. Assault on the Control Room- decent vehicle sections, but goes on for too long 9. The Pillar of Autumn- it’s the opening mission and it’s fine 10. The Truth and Reconciliation- love the opening sniping but I absolutely despise the length and monotony of the ship interior sections
