Me too, have been following the basic classes from Guru jee, since she started her begginers class, slowly, due to my own schedule. I wanted to learn Kathak since my childhood but since its not very common in Pakistan, it was not possible for me. Guru jee has made my wish come true. I want to learn it only for my self expression, or some specific pieces are there, which, whenever are played, I wish I knew kathak. Now I am hopeful about that. She is a great teacher.

@@tanishqsharma7328 There are some very good exponents of Kathak dance in Pakistan. You can search yourself. But of course in the face of govt's indifference to classical music and dance it's very difficult for learners to get the best possible opps.
No. There is absolutely nothing in any Islamic text which prohibits dance. What is forbidden is fornication, adultery. The theater performances in Pakistan usually seen have only vulgur twerking and are like a Desi version of strip bars, that has absolutely nothing to do with Kathak. And Yes That vulgarity is Haram because it's pure striptease and lewd movements, it is absolutely not dance. Kathak is extremely complex mathematically and geometrically too, it takes immense hard work and dedication and years to even learn, mastering it is another story. I doubt ANY single prostitute of Pakistan possesses that devotion to learn such an intricate dance form. I mean what do you think that Nargis or Deedar know what a 45 degree angle arm movement or a 180 degrees Chakar in Kathak means??? Keep your ignorance to yourself by the way, there are PLENTY of women and men in Pakistan who are devotees of classical arts and Kathak and good Muslims too. It is our 5000 year old culture because the dancing girl statute of MohenjoDaro was found in Pakistan, the hills of Margalla and Taxila are witness of the ancient Kathakaars or story tellers which developed this breathtaking art form.
I don´t know why people are answering you a bit aggressively. It´s a fair question. I´m a beginner student of Kathak and religious Muslim woman. I believe that Kathak as well as many other things, like swimming or figure-skating, is allowed in Islam BUT on certain conditions because our faith is a faith of prevention. It helps the believer to keep away from, not only forbidden things, but things that COULD LEAD to destruction or corruption. Instead of saying for example "We were alone, we got very close and then...one thing lead to the other", Islam is like "Try not to sit alone with someone you´re attracted to..do get to know each other but sit in a public place", so that the couple doesn´t even get to the potentially damaging situation in which they might regret an action. Islam allows swimming etc. but separately for the genders. I attend swimming classes, but there are only ladies allowed there and we all dress in decent swimming clothes. Similarily, when I dance Kathak, I choose music that doesn´t have corrupt lyrics that demean women, or music that encourages haraam actions. No silly masala songs, but instrumental music or Sufiana. As decent as Kathak is (with its dupatta and choridaar trousers with wide, covered skirts), I don´t dance in front of men. I don´t think that women who do are in any way bad. No, they are very dedicated and immersed dancers and just think everyone should be able to enjoy art. I´m just not comfortable and won´t risk my Deen (faith) just to make people believe that I´m "down with the crowd". I get a lot of angry reactions, even by fellow Kathak students but I refuse to budge on that point. I wish Kathak teachers were more inclusive when it comes to this. There are MANY Christians and Muslims who LOVE Kathak and want to learn, but our faiths do not allow us to for example bow to statues or sing about several gods. I think Pali jee seems like a wonderful lady! I wish more teachers were so open and embracing.
