- My current personal best in Irem's R-Type.
I wanted to score as much as I could in this run, and some of the quirkier tactics I use are geared toward this end--e.g., I take all the speed items, sacrifice my spare lives in order to replay the most lucrative scoring stretch of the game (the latter half of 1-7), and let certain bosses hang around so I can kill more of their destructible parts or accompanying goons.

Absolutely insane run. GG, been taking it as reference for my 1ALL.
At you beating stage 4... this replay is amazing.
R-Type (arcade) was my first introduction to small hitboxes. Loved it.

Autofire, no slowdown during game (level 5 is heavy on it) ..level 7 trash compactor vent positions not right. What version are you playing?

BTW, I liked how you let your force go on top of the battleship while going underneath. Next level shit right there.

Great work i did never get further then 3-4 boss in this game. The problem with the arcade games back then was is you die and lose your power up you was fucked was easier just too restart your game

Autofire helps a lot (I've never used it)... but great replay.

I dont believe this. You has to be a cheater with half speed game or some trick. its impossible with so many "S" maneuver with ship like you in normal speed !!
AHA they don`t make shoot em ups like they used to all-time classic if anybody could recommend another good shoot em up let me know please as I am trigger happy and wasting away lol

wow nice, i'm glad i found this video searching for r-type high score. My personal best is 1.2 million then i stopped playing the game, however i've never used auto-fire, it's cheating in my opinion. I've thought about using my spare lives at level 7 but i found that part too hard (no auto-fire) so that's why my score is not nearly as impressive as yours.
I think you could've gotten some extra points by killing the level 7 boss right before it vanishes, no?
