Yasmeen is the perfect example of a successful model, not because she's an icon, but because she took everything she needed from the business to focus on her true goals.

When I was a student at FIT, I dressed her for an Oscar de la Renta show. 1992 or 93. We had to do 2 shows in a row. She was a lovely person, not a diva at all. She had theee tiniest waist imaginable! She has remained my favorite model since then. Btw, at that same show my best friend dressed Eva Herzigova. Carla Bruni was also in the show. Those were the days! 😊 The only slightly diva behavior I witnessed while dressing shows was Kimora...when she was still just Lee.... nobody knew who she was then. It wasn't even that bad, but I remember it. 😂
@ Haha, it was at a Christian Francis Roth fashion show in 1992. The models were all dressed for their first looks & their makeup was done. The backstage area had florescent overhead lighting & the models had long fake eyelashes on. Kimora was looking in a mirror & said out loud really loudly..."Oh my god, these lashes are giving me dark under eye circles!" Then she turned around & started asking people (very loudly)..."Do you see this? Do you see this? This is awful! I can't have these dark circles!!" Everyone turned to look at her because she was being so dramatic. I don't think they redid her makeup because the show was about to start (plus the dark circles were obviously from the overhead lights). At the time she was just a random model. I didn't realize who she was until she started dating Russell. I was like...wait that's that model who made a fuss about her lashes! I guess she made an impression, because I don't remember any of the other models! 😂 Now looking back at it, I guess she was only 17 at the time. I had no idea she was that young! 😱

There's so much to admire her for. The obvious physical beauty and commanding presence, but her intense level of self-respect is what lingers for me. Her family has everything to do with that. Her foundation was secure. She didn't enter the business with a shopping list of insecurities. She was and still is a formidable force you couldn't manipulate. We should all be that lucky. I can imagine what was offered to her behind closed doors, and she turned it all down, with grace. The other model that comes to mind that walked away on her terms is Christy Turlington. Both ladies didn't feed off of other peoples perception of them. They had enough sense and internal fortitude to move on with their lives, remain curious about discovering other aspects of themselves. Their foundation at home is what protected them both. BRAVO, Yasmeen. Blessings continued to you and your family. 🙂👑
She’s really smart tbh, she probably knew modelling was a career but not something she wanted to do long term, and I think one of the best things about her charm is that she is very mysterious and tactic you can see how she does it in the way she walks it’s as if she knows the angles of her hips so well

I saw her in Bali in 1995 while traveling. She was waiting to board the small plane with boyfriend. I immediately recognized her. I was struck by her body. She was wearing fitted white tee with white denim and was so skinny but with perfect bone structure. She definitely had a special model body. I’m glad I didn’t gawk at her. No mystery, she is out there. Just living her life, doing whatever she's chosen to do. Just not where you expect her - i.e. fashion and entertainment industry. And not hunkering to be a celebrity.
This was a time to witness the fashion industry in all its glamor and glory, and Yasmeen was truly one of the IT GIRLS. She was as ubiquitous as Linda, Christy, Naomi, Cindy, and the other 10 icons who make up the Platinum 15 from the greatest fashion era of all time.
Love her!!! She didn't seem to get the accolades of other supermodels, but she was truly a trailblazer and unique beauty. I wish we could see more of her, but I'm glad she had the courage and confidence to do whatever was right for her.

I think it is wise beyond her years to step away from the lime lite after having lots of fame and success. To step away from it all to live her life to discover herself, who she really is, raise a family... is wonderful. Nowadays there are so many celebs who have continued to dominate in movies, reality tv, shows and be successful for decades, but they are boring us and we've grown to even hate some of them.
God blessed her with the physique! She seemed strong-headed in a world where women can potentially be pushed around. The struggle of makeup for brown skin was real. She did great doing her own makeup.
i collected yasmeen's photos from fashion magazines before internet existed & while visiting nyc in 1997 met a hairstylist friend who told me he had styled her hair before & she was actually a very nice person...
This is fascinating. Yasmin was one of my favourite models at the time and I knew literally nothing about her, and I don’t remember much backstage coverage of her like we got of Naomi, Linda or Cindy. The model’s model. Thank you. 🙏🏼
Her dad was technically Indian, since he was born in Hyderabad, but he moved to Pakistan because there was a lot of animosity against Muslims in the predominantly Hindu state of Telangana. His ancestry also traces back to Afghanistan, since his surname Ghauri originates from Ghor, Afghanistan. Yasmeen confirmed this all in her IG.
😂😂 Pakistani where? Her dad is from Hyderabad which is south india but his ancestors came from Afghanistan and during partition he moved to pak due to being Muslim for like a few short years before going to the west…😂 he’s not pak lol not born their nor has citizenship nor ethnically so stay in ur lane
She herself said she was Pakistani, plus its not that deep that her great grandfather or grandfather moved countries since during the sub continents partition many families were forced to move. Her ancestors from Afghanistan were from centuries ago, which realistically have no value.@@Gshss-w2f
@@Gshss-w2f Pakistani everywhere babes, she has been known and will always be known as a Pakistani model. She has both heritage from Pakistan and Afghanistan but most of it's Pakistan, she doesn't have any Indian in her. And how do you know if her dad has Pakistani citizenship or not? Exactly, you don't, so stfu and stay in your lane sweetie😘
I’ve seen people hurl racism at Indians on Twitter lately and I can only imagine the racist bullying Yasmeen went through to make her feel ugly as a child. But the way she lived her life, focused & disciplined.. Vivek is right.. it’s truly about culture. Indians mind their business and simply excel.
I were ten years old at the height of Yasmeen Ghauri's career she opened doors for all the beautiful Brown girls we all see on runways across the world being from a strict religious background is something I can relate to it's not an easy thing for a young girl being ridiculed and taunted by strangers for no other reason other than being a woman of color she walked away from the world of modeling for herself not anyone else I understand and respect her decision😏
I have much respect for Yasmeen, sure I wish we could’ve gotten to see more of her, but to be honest, she has enough self-respect, and love for herself to know when not to get lost in something such as the fame and the money. I am so glad she walked away. She knew it was a career, but she knew it was not a long-term career. I’m proud of her.
She walked away from fame. She did not walk away from money. People in other respectable professions are rich as well. Not all celebrities are rich, only few are. At the end many celebrities lose their money if they do not know how to invest. Also after some years many stop getting acting offers, singing offers or even modeling offers so start to go from high income to low income to no income and that is when they decide to become a trophy wife. Some are able to make some money. In every career/profession there is rich with high income and has the brain to invest to make wealth and poor with low income and no idea how to invest. A person with both brains and beauty can make money/keep money in any respectable career as they will know how to have high income and will know how to invest. Modeling/acting/singing is not respectable and a sin. Touching before marriage is not respectable and a huge sin causing STDs, poverty and noor taken away from face. Both marriage and divorce is allowed and respectable which the respectable good wealthy understand.
Thank you, Yasmeen will always be my favorite supermodel of the 90s and all time. She walked runways like nobody's business. Even Naomi Campbell said Yasmeen Ghauri was the best walker of the models. Thank you for shining light on this goddess.
Yasmeen has always been iconic and an inspiration for me. She is beyond gorgeous, talented and is effortlessly classy. If you lived through the 90s and were connected to the fashion world you know how she was a master of her craft and adored around the world. She has always been my favourite model! I'm so glad she perfected the separation of her professional and personal lives. She is still beloved! ❤
As a young fashion stylist starting out in the late ‘80’s when Yasmeen came on the scene, I was crazy for her because she looked like she could be from my own mixed white and Cuban/Greek family. Watching her evolve over the decade she modeled turn into the most stunning and mesmerizing woman was such a great thing. But in fairness there were many beautiful and captivating women of mixed heritage, or what may have appeared mixed, that came before her. All of them I felt the same way about because they looked like the women in my own family. Gail Elliot and Helena Christiansen were two of my absolute favorites, as well.
I was in my 20s in the 90s and I loved these models. Yasmeen wasn't my favorite at the time but damn if she isn't now! I'm obsessed with her and I realize how ahead of her time she was. Yasmeen, I adore you! Please write your story about your time in the industry, you have so much to say! ICON, lady!
She was one of my favourite supermodels in the 90s. So true to her beauty and morals 😊 not plastic like the stuff you see on tv or in social media these days
I grew up with the 90's supermodels. All of them were featured on the cover of Vogue's 100th Anniversary issue. It was Linda, Christy, Naomi, Helena, Cindy, Yasmeen, Claudia, Niki, Karen, Elaine, and Tatjana. You know who wasn't on the cover? Tyra. I remember Allure calling her a "Supermodel Wannabe". Niki Taylor also largely walked away at a young age to raise a family, and I feel that she's often forgotten in these discussions, despite being one of the more successful models of all time.
Everyone was bullied at school for one thing or another. I was told I was found in a trash can, adopted by my white parents, was actually black, was also Indian, but I am actually west European. I was very skinny, and people would accuse me of being anorexic, although I constantly ate as much as I could to gain weight. I was definitely an ugly duckling. No one is school looked much like me, but I didn't' care, I actually liked it. It didn't bother me, because I knew who I was. With that being said, Yasmeen was my favorite model in the 90s, because I could identify with her, not only in the overall appearance area (brown skin, dark hair), but also her values, attitude, and life philosophy. I am in no way saying I am beautiful like her, though, lol. My point is that I really was ugly and bullied, because people can be mean. She is so beautiful, and a very kind, humble lady. She has a mind of her own. She didn't sell herself. Love you, Yasmeen. ❤
I applaud her for stepping away at the height of her success, in order to live her life! There are some from her era still out there trying to be relevant!🤫
I don’t blame her for doing her own makeup. Back in those days, there was limited shades of foundation. I don’t think anyone know there is warm black skin and cool black skin. There was another famous model who had to make her foundation also. I think her favourite brand was NARS.
I used to do modeling (in Europe) and I was the only black girl in the group. I remember the organizer wanted to put bright white eyeshadow on my eyes which made me look crazy and she argued with me when I complained, and was so rude I ended up crying. They would put me lighter foundations all the time, I learned afterwards to bring my own makeup. But I look back at some pictures and the makeup was embarrassing 🙄
@ White eyeshadow!? Unless it was some sort of look. I think I saw Yasmeen once recently in court a few months ago. I stared at her and thought, she looks familiar. I don’t get along well with mouthy people. They appear aggressive to me.
@@TheBohemianStyle It was for a beauty pageant contest, so you have to look your best. And they were trying to make me look like a clown. Maybe it was her who you saw … Yasmeen is one of my favorite 90’s top models 😍
@ I wish you all the best. I don’t understand how those beauty pageants work and how does this help you advance in your career? We don’t have that in Canada
She's been such extraordinary gorgeous, smart, independent and so clever to make her own makeup and pick her fashion shows and stuff. She's got the personality and the brains and I wish her well, she's wonderful and inspiring for other models to stay genuine to herself and others and very important, avoiding scandals or toxic people. Wonderful human being
Thanks for this presentation, I grew up in Quebec and I had never heard of Yasmeen. In my youth I read a bout the life of a famous model but I dont remember her name. I had heard of Linda Evangelista yes but never Yasmeen. Good for her to have kept control of her life.
What I admire about Yasmeen is not just her beauty, but the confidence & maturity she exuded going into an industry that 'can eat you alive'. Girls need more role models (no pun intended) like Yasmeen, who aren't afraid to say 'no', to recognize the limitations you need to set in your job & lifestyle. I like that she said 'this is a job, not my life', and wasn't afraid to walk away.
I want to see more stories of woman of colour, truly inspiring ✨️ a world that serves just one colour more then others raising to the top and being an icon, truely speaks power!
YG has been my fav forever. Just find her mesmerizing. Its partly the humility that lies deep inside from hard early experiences (like kate middleton, imo).
@lemoncakes0 don't think so. yasmeen was already a top model for a lot of model agencies and was a muse for them, so I definitely think she would have made it

Thank you Elegance Echo for posting this clip. I had been wondering what happened with Yasmeen. It’s nice to learn she decided on her own to step away from. I wish her nothing but the best.
As a model I really wish I could get away with doing my own makeup because these artist can ruin your look and your look is your brand. Like I once paid 300-400 for my makeup for a test shoot and was horrified but most times the brand provides someone and they don’t necessarily do the best.

i collected yasmeen's photos from fashion magazines before internet existed & while visiting nyc in 1997 met a hairstylist friend who told me he had styled her hair before & she was actually a very nice person...
This video explains all the reasons why Yasmeen is my favourite model.
Wow! She is a breathe of fresh air ❤ Love the fact that she figured out that life was more than a fashion show . 👏👏
This is fascinating. Yasmin was one of my favourite models at the time and I knew literally nothing about her, and I don’t remember much backstage coverage of her like we got of Naomi, Linda or Cindy. The model’s model. Thank you. 🙏🏼
Yasmine is German/Pakistani heritage. Stunning model who lived her life on her own terms.
@@lissandrafreljord7913Hes pakistani, hope this helps
I’ve seen people hurl racism at Indians on Twitter lately and I can only imagine the racist bullying Yasmeen went through to make her feel ugly as a child. But the way she lived her life, focused & disciplined.. Vivek is right.. it’s truly about culture. Indians mind their business and simply excel.
She’s half Pakistani but yeah South Asians do mind their business and grind for their money
My pleasure 😇 would love to know who are your top 05 models from the 90s🥰🥰🥰
@EleganceEcho. (1) Katoucha (2) Sonia Cole (3) Amalia V. (4) Nadege (5) Maybe...Tatiana Partitz
Any perfectionist who is famous is called a diva. I call those people envious.
This was amazing. You presented this perfectly. I like the quiet background and your confident voice. You know how to keep the audience engaged.
Her emotional maturity at such a young age I’ve only begun to acquire and I’m middle aged.
I'm 53 and I still can't take such
good care of myself as she did !
.
She is beautiful and has an amazing aura. Her personality and her confidence which has grace too is what makes her really really beautiful.
The most beautiful supermodel of the 90s(and beyond), with a spectacular figure and fantabulous walk.
My favourite model of the 90s. I loved her make up. I then did a fashion design degree myself ❤
I used to model many years ago in Montreal and always looked up Yasmeen over the years and still do to this day.
She genuinely has a talent for make up (among other things). It was a smart decision to do it on her own.
Modeling is a JOB, she's selling clothes, NOT her personal life!!! your job doesn't define you. Good for her 👏 👍
She is so real she has such a strong personality
My one and only favorite tbh. She's already beautiful but she's also intelligent. I like the way she thinks.
Once an Iconic...stays an Iconic forever. Yasmeen was and Yasmeen is.
Her timing and strategy was on point.
I applaud her for stepping away at the height of her success, in order to live her life! There are some from her era still out there trying to be relevant!🤫
She was always my favorite! Her walk is legend!
I always wondered what happened to her. Loved her face as a teenager growing up. Was so nice to see a south Asian face
Yasmeen is the epitome of class, elegance and integrity BRAVO!! 👏🏽👏🏽
The classiest and most beautiful of all the supermodels - by a million miles.
What a beautifully written and artistically compiled video. Absolutely captivating to watch.
Wonderful human being
a real trailblazer with her trailblazing legacy that is remote in hollywood where fame and success redefine characters
Stunning beauty. I remember her at her peak. Flawless. Thank you for making this video. I had no idea she was such a badass. Love her more now ❤
I'm so happy for her💜
edit: she is my favorite model of all time🩵she's so unique, completely unforgettable🩷
She looks gorgeous. She is respectful on top.
Having, boundaries, self love, self respect and mostly peace is what everyone should have! ❤
Always quit at the top ! It means that you're always going to be sought after, and respected !
Her walk is MAJOR. This right here is what the drag race girls are trying to do
Iconic beauty for sure. Iconically being true to yourself is rare. This was an eye opening thoughtful piece
Thanks for this presentation, I grew up in Quebec and I had never heard of Yasmeen. In my youth I read a bout the life of a famous model but I dont remember her name. I had heard of Linda Evangelista yes but never Yasmeen. Good for her to have kept control of her life.
I love short and powerful videos on RUclips like this one!
We want more! We want more!😍
imagine calling Yasmeen ugly 💀💀
Shes normal looking like most
@@kashaka0934no she stunningly gorgeous
The most underrated model!
Major respect for her. Thank you for making this video ❤
if you’re open to suggestion, adding captions to these really old video clips would be super helpful. i love your videos!!
Yasmeen is one the best I’ve seen on the runway.
She was extraordinary! My favorite model and also Karen Mulder. They were the standard by which every new model should be measured!
I want to see more stories of woman of colour, truly inspiring ✨️ a world that serves just one colour more then others raising to the top and being an icon, truely speaks power!
Yasmeen has always been my favourite ever since I first saw her walk for Karl Lagerfield 93 at Chanel... i thought wow who is this girl...
Stunning, glossy, sleek, poised, and classy, Yasmeen Ghauri is pretty much my favourite ever.
I had no idea she was such a boss! I am an even bigger fan now of this fellow Pisces
She's an aries
YG has been my fav forever. Just find her mesmerizing. Its partly the humility that lies deep inside from hard early experiences (like kate middleton, imo).
Yasmeen looked stunning and sounded like an amazing woman! Her partner must be lucky! The best to Yasmeen 🎉
She was the most beautiful model that ever existed.
Beauty and brains she knew what she was doing when she stepped down from the runway
All I am saying is if Yasmeen Ghari was still modelling today…she would have been the most powerful model alive, bigger than Naomi and Shalom…periodit
@lemoncakes0 don't think so. yasmeen was already a top model for a lot of model agencies and was a muse for them, so I definitely think she would have made it
@@lemoncakes0 cope
@@lemoncakes0nah she was bigger than naomi like naomi even admitted she had the best walk she just step away from the limelight and she's just humble. Yasmin walk so naomi can run. No is doing better than her in her era. Naomi become the main one after yasmin left the scene.
@@flymetotheup9904no because she chose an other path she has the body, the walk, the face card and aura...
She did not leave at the height of her career if anything she made the most of it and got out at exactly the perfect time for her !
Thank you Elegance Echo for posting this clip. I had been wondering what happened with Yasmeen. It’s nice to learn she decided on her own to step away from. I wish her nothing but the best.
Good for her. Mad respect for taking care of herself.
As a model I really wish I could get away with doing my own makeup because these artist can ruin your look and your look is your brand. Like I once paid 300-400 for my makeup for a test shoot and was horrified but most times the brand provides someone and they don’t necessarily do the best.
I'm so sorry love😤.
