@@KT-qx1tkgetting over 6 hours doesn’t kill your brain performance. The point Andrew is trying to make is that having a consistent sleep schedule is better than increasing your sleeping hours.
The video never says or suggests that more than 6 hours sleep is killing your brain and performance. It only talks about the benefits of consistency over length.
Suggestion for the title: "inconsistent sleep might be killing your brain"
I found that 9 hours is ideal for me
Same here. 9 hours is always my goal because my body seems to want it.
Was about to write the same thing
I sleep for 10 hours but when I wake up at 9 hours, I still feel very rested
Bruh how u still alive ur brain must be so dead by this point bruh ill pray for ur soul
Nice, but if you wake up after 6 hours of sleep, than that may be your correct cycle time. Found that out recently.
I think I need 9 hours of sleep per night to function optimally. When I consistently get, say, 7 hours of sleep per night, I start to feel like a total zombie within a few days and can hardly think straight and be logical. So I think amount of sleep per night is indeed very important.
Getting everything I need done a few hours before sleep helped me
I'm the same...I also enjoy sleeping, my dreams are very pleasant and nobody will convince me less is more.
I’m exactly the same. 9 hours is optimal for me and I get it most nights.
I find that I function better with 6 or 7 hours. Getting more sleep than that, I wake up groggy and never feel sharp that day.
When workout more I sleep better. Simple for me. Can't sleep means get active till I drop. Stress melts away.
Better to listen to Dr. Walker who Huberman interviewed who said you need 7-8 hours of sleep, even if you think you need less, and it's only a tiny percentage of people with genetics where they can do well with less. I was getting away with 6-6.5 hours for a couple years and my blood tests got worse.
Humans never got 7-8 hours of sleep 😂 it's always been 6-7
@@arrow2380well those humans were not academic
@@OfficialGOD that's why they lived a better life without the fear mongering of social media and websites on the internet. Saying everyone needs a specific amount of something is like saying everyone needs to poop X amount of times per week or else you'll have this and that problem. Good luck trying to force poop out of your a$$hole. Or saying your heartbeat should be always X bpm. And you start wearing those smart watches to always check your heartbeat and then doing breathing excercises all the time and doing stupid sh*ts like these. And Dr. Walker and his books are also very controversial and hated by other sleep experts because he makes things worse.
I'd say 7hours is enough if you tried to aim for 8.
Just sleep exactly at 9:30pm
Even if you can't sleep right away
Atleast you could get tired to sleep at 10 or 10:15 most likely and then wake up at 5:30 or 6 am
It's only possible to get such a sleep
If you properly hydrate yourself in day
So that you don't get to wake up in middle for urination
And it's also helpful if you follow hubermans morning routine
@@arrow2380that also died in their 30s around then
People need to understand that its not lack of sleep that is making us more tired, I think it has more to do with how badly we treat our bodies. Most of us don't eat well, we do no exercise, we're not receiving any vital vitamins from plants, the sun, etc. There is barely anything natural in our day to day life anymore. That's not everyone, but for most of us it is. The work we do mostly is mundane. We are mostly bored and mentally drained. Most of us don't even know how to sleep properly. The fact that we "want" to sleep more is probably because we are mainly depressed, deprived, and are becoming dehumanized. This is only a clip. A small shred of information. I've seen his vids and they are filled with incredible information. Try not to criticize what you don't understand. Just listen and maybe a little of what he's trying to explain will filter through and make great changes to our lives. I listen from time to time and it really opens my mind up to great information.
👏🏻
You got it... 👍🏻
Amen
I mean lack of sleep, literally screws you up physically emotionally, it messes with digestion, messes with everything so it’s kind of both. People are treating their bodies like shit not exercising, not eating well, etc. which causes them to not sleep well but then because they’re not sleeping well, it’s causing them to require more caffeine and requires them to search for dopamine through doom scrolling or eating junk food which then causesthem to stay up late into the night and get less sleep. When I get a good nights sleep, I’m less likely to abuse my body but also the less I abuse my body the better I sleep, so yeah.
@@Keraed, yes. I don't know when was the last time I had a good sleep.
The mistake is "to strive". Instead, disconnect and let nature take over. Your body will take what it needs when you stop over-thinking and flow instead 😊

Nope…. NOTHING but empty platitudes to justify being lazy
I have a high sleep requirement and am fatigued with less than 7 or 8 hours of sleep and I’m tired of people telling me I only need 6 hours. I’m the best judge of how much sleep I need to feel awake 🙄
Lifestyle habits matter as well bruh, it determines how much sleep your body needs.
@@SkibidiboiExactly. I like to get 8 or 9, but I work hard physically until I am tired, and then do easier jobs and mental work. I think my brain requires the sleep to process the lessons learned in the daytime and do the subconscious planning for the next day's work.
I feel the exact same way. I need 9 hours each night to be a peak performance. I honestly think we all do. I think many people are just unable to due to a poor lifestyle so they convince themselves that they only need a few hours of sleep.
He is saying this due to the effects of inconsistent sleep on the circadian rhythm. Having consistent sleep will keep your circadian rythme in check, whereas sleeping for inconsistent hours will make it out of sync. This would through off your whole day due to a lot of reasons, for which I will not go into because he mentions all of them on his podcast.
Yes ideally 7-8 hours of sleep is optimal, but if you can’t do that consistently, then opting for 6hrs every night may be best if you want to optimize your circadian rythme.
Hey. I went for a run tonight and am feeling like I've got some things to be grateful for. I am on my feet and I have ordered the supplements.
I totally agree with you. I'm sick and tired of this thing of having to sleep 8 hours a night. I now accept i need to sleep 6 hours every night and feel much better, more productive, more able to focus. I don't sleep 8 hours a night because I don't want to sleep 8 hours, I simply CAN'T sleep 8 hours a night and FULL STOP.
I don’t function properly without 9 hours every night. No one can tell you how much sleep you need. Only you know that. As long as you feel good, no brain fog, not fatigued, not falling asleep during the day, then you’re probably getting what you need.
'Restful' and consistent sleep is even better
Thank you! It's stressful when all the experts are like 8-10 hours and all I sleep is 6, same with my siblings, too
I noticed this fact initially when I got super busy working a full time job and 3 side hustles. I was more productive getting 5.5 -6 hrs than I was sleeping different intervals 6, 7, 8, 9 hrs when I could..
I realized when I stopped stressing on why I can't fall asleep and broke my mind if the concept that we don't even need 8 hours of sleep and I awake at twilight that my life is easier this way. Not stressing and just going through it and doing other activities when I am awake will either a. Put me asleep or B. I got things done. I would nap for an hour or two then I did the rest of my day. I recently learned I am a lion Chrono type so this definitely works for me. When. You work with your body and your genetic sleep schedule life is easy.
I need 8 at least. If i don't set an alarm i sleep like 9 - 10 hours.

I could not diagree with you more. I sailed around the world mostly solo, and always sleep deprived. Speel is like a reservoir of water....you can run it down and fill it up, but the body ALWAYS remembers. Lack of sleep is extremely unhealthy, and too much sleep once in a while for is not a bad thing. I think the cognitive study you refer to does not take into consideration the temporary sleep hangover which will slow anyones response time, but that doesnt make it a bad thing. Skeep deprivation itself leads to many physiological changes, and can bring on stroke even in relatively youg people. The only time the body really repairs itself is during SLEEP....the rest of the time it is way too busy priving work, thought, and metabolizing.
I was working shifts and had broken sleep I put weight on felt irritable had no get up and go when I had time off.I stopped doing shifts sleep 9 hours a night and the Weight dropped off me and I feel great...full of e energy and feel happy and positive in all aspects of life.
After a career in nursing I can't sleep much later than 5 AM. What I do now that I am retired is meditate using my Muse headband and Dr Joe Dispenza meditations or my own. For an hour, outside on our big covered patio, no matter the weather (wind or the rare dairy smell will drive me inside). I greatly prefer that to nursing and my quality of life has improved greatly. I can't sleep in at all..for that matter by 10 PM I'm ready for bed.

Oh for god sake, I’m doing everything wrong
For me 8 hours + is beneficial.
I let myself get more sleep in winter because that seems like a natural rhythm but seem to need only about 6-7 the rest of the year.

If you are a book reader, it will make your brain relax and if you are not, you'll fall asleep more quickly 😂
So is there any technology that will help to auto regulate that? Like fitness watch that wil auto set alarm after I fall asleep for 6 hours?
Thank you for this!!! 🔥🔥🔥
I agree, quality sleep is better than people saying we have to as adults get at least eight. Children and young adults do need more however.
IF YOU SLEEP 9+ HOURS, PLEASE TRY SLEEPING 6 HOURS FOR A FEW DAYS. IT MAY CHANGE YOUR LIFE
I found 7 to be the sweet spot for me
The only thing I’ll say about this is that usually on the weekdays I get between 5-7 hours (if I’m lucky) of sleep and if I ever oversleep on the weekends to 9-12 hours, thinking my body is catching up on sleep, I feel groggier the rest of the day. I stopped doing it after I woke up with a headache and then a panic attack that lasted the entire day. Idk what that was but i felt like it was cause I overslept.
Thank you
Would wake up and be like, more. And just slide back into snooze.
The title is so missleading which is so in contrast to Huberman being very precise all the time. Shame
That makes sense. The body is a machine, and its function is rooted in patterns. Your body adjusts to the patterns of your behavior.

What about Consistent Felatio ? Can you do a study on that
The title is so misleading and deceiving that I'm just blocking the channel.
Btw. I don't use an alarm clock, I sleep until my system decides it's had enough. I go to bed at a regular time and unwind by reading a physical book or listening to audio books or huberman podcast. I end up waking up at a regular time, usually feeling rested.
I sleep from like 9p-2/3a i usually feel great
I’m 9p to 6a
I used to run on 5-6. Recently I started getting 7-8 and I actually feel awake during the day for the first time in like a decade.
We sleep in 90 minute cycles. So 6 hours can feel better than 7 because you are pulled in the middle of a sleep cycle. But 7.5 will feel better again. Just depends on where you are in the cycle but for most people you’ve a min max of 6 and 9.
Change the title! It's extremely misleading!

Matthew Walker would like a word. 😂
Sleep is not subjective, all people need the same qualitative sleep. Regular nightly initiation of sleep regulates your blood pressure and many hormones. 2 hours of solid sleep before midnight is better than 3 hours after midnight, which is where our REM cycles occur. So, 6 hours is ok if you initiate sleep by 930pm. Not time in bed but actual sleep. I've been in sleep medicine for 20 years, stop eating and watching TV in bed, make sure to exercise and regulate your weight. If you need cpap, wear it. You'll last longer and feel better being alive. 930pm to 430am is about as good of a balance that you can get. It does not depend in who you are ,that is subjective thinking which you ha e to deal with some day. It's easier to shrug off when you're young, but it will catch up to you. Sleep us an active process that aligns your circadian rhythm with the natural cycles of day and night. The later you go to bed after sunset the worse off you are
Dude sounds like Jordan Peters on when he side tracked into "I think im getting this precisely right but .." very jbp style of talking haha

I don't care if you're getting 7 8 9 10 hours on different days. Just get at least 6 hours of sleep each time and you should be good. f all that.
I don’t think 6 is enough to function at a high level but just my opinion.
9 is my need
He never says that more hours of sleep is harmful. What he’s saying is that you should have a consistent wake up and bed time. And if that’s 6 hours it’s better to do always that instead of not having a routine. Please don’t spread misinformation
I consistently get 2-3 then 9-10 some weekends and gotta say, it sucks, i dont know why i do it and i hate myself for it but when when the clock rolls around, i am aware that i should be going to sleep but ive already unconsciously convinced myself of “not yet” and i play with time like ait its 2:30 ill go at 3 and 3:18 rolls up ait 3:30 and then around what ever the fuck i roll off to bed annoyed with myself and wake up at 6:50 to do a very physically demanding blue collar work and im tired all day get home and do some house work, eat dinner and then im bearly conscious on the couch and then the 5th second wind of the day kicks in like an adrenaline boost and i live off of it until i go to sleep way to fucking late rinse and repeat. Dont do it, im very physically gifted both in physique and athleticism and i feel my body drastically declining as the years go and im 26 its not worth but i do it because i love doing stuff like watching RUclips or making music or doing fun projects like building electronics and i spend my nights on it pissed off that the day just began for me when it should be ending
Maybe for next day brain performance but I doubt for longevity
Personally I am scared of sleeping bc afraid of dying. I end up sleeping scared bc I have abnormally high t levels at 1190. And unfortunately that has caused heart problems, such as murmurs and abnormal heart palpations. And I love running long distance to help lower my t levels sometimes, and I am fast at it fast is 4:01 for the mile ran college 3 yrs ago. And I always think those problems will make me die in my sleep by getting a heart attack. I try my best to exercise m, by running stkeast 10 min a day, weight lifting, labor, making food, getting plants ready. I hate sleeping and I always try to find something to do it rlly scary and I am more energized then ever though never really tired just want to be on go bc I feel like my time is coming soon.
