It’s official Living Traditions is my favorite homesteading channel. I have followed your advise sooo many times. I just ordered 4 Idaho Pasture pigs and will travel across the state to get them.
I talk about your videos so often to my son (he's 25) that I just start with "Kevin and Sarah..." Thanks for being such wonderful teachers in your videos and such beautiful people! God bless!!
I can understand why you like them so much. Wonderful temperament. Thank you for sharing food information. Take care and be safe. Many blessing on you and your family.
Thanks Kevin this is a great video. It made me smile and I really need that right now. Those pigs are marvelous creatures. Have fun stay safe and healthy
I was born in the countryside in Eastern Washington but live in city since 1982. I loved this video you presented the homestead as a very attractive opportunity and alternative to city life.
Wow! Since this video, I have seen newer ones From Living Traditions, and Charlie's crown jewels have grown geometrically. He is now the Dude about the farm and ready for action!
We butchered a pig a year before last it was so awesome we got some old spot heritage pigs this year but we are still learning for sure I really like your plat form feeder it has rained a lot here and we are having to use a lot of hay to try and keep it dry in their own but a platform will be a much better more sustainable than adding hey every time it rains. Great video thanks for sharing
You are both blessed because you are very kind and respectful to all your animals! Even the way you talk to them, there is compassion.....Thank you so much for being so loving to all of them ❤️
I have bred and raised IPPs for several years. Love the breed... friendly, easy on your pastures but can be hard on houses. We use the heavy polycarb calf dome huts placed on wooden sled platforms (we built). They get the pigs up off the ground and allow us to drag them around the pastures with a tractor for better rotational grazing. The huts are almost indestructible and will last for years. My boars are like big teddy bears, always wanting a belly rub. I have no fear of being in the boar paddocks, however, I never turn my back on them. While not overly aggressive, if sows are in season, they can get territorial. They are unbelievably strong and even the small tusk will injure you quickly. Great looking bunch! Charlie reminds me of one of my breeding boars, Oscar... Oscar Myer. Good luck!!
Hey Kevin, Since your boar hog like to sleep on his feed station so well, you should try putting him on a floored shelter. You could build a back wall in it also for the harsh winter months. You may also consider a closed in floored shelter for the sows as well. The little newborn piglets will need a rail around the wall about 8 to 10 inches off the floor and standing off from the wall about 6 inches to give them a place to go to keep momma from laying down and squishing the babies. You may already know all this stuff, I don't know. At any rate you and yours stay safe and keep on making these great videos. God bless you all.
I agree, the pigs probably had a floor in their house at their previous home, to keep them up off the cold ground.....great recommendation about the safety rail around the Sow's house, for farrowing time.
Your pigs are beautiful and very healthy-looking! I think that this is an ideal breed for your homestead....it is great that they graze and don't destroy the land....your feeding and watering stations are perfect!...it is so nice that they are not constantly standing in a mud wallow...it keeps them nice and clean....keep working with your piglets and they will respond to you as your other pigs have...watching your video makes me want to raise Idaho Pasture Pigs! I love the way you care for your animals...great job!❤
They seem absolutely great! So glad it's working out for you. Edit: just an idea you may want to consider raising up some breeding pairs as you get established these are very hard to find
My husband and I have been tuning into your channel for a little over a year now. We have learned so much from y’all about; chicken tractors, about raising meat birds (we just ordered some for the first time ever!}, about freezing fresh spinach, and now about feeder pigs (maybe next year). You guys have such an adorable family! You two are so great about the way you teach and share on your videos. We are 60ish and bought our 6 acre farm in the west central mountains of Idaho just over 2 years ago. We moved from our city home in Utah where we had fruit trees, a large raspberry patch and a sizeable garden on our 1/5 acre home where my husband had been for 25 years. I hadn’t heard of homesteading or permaculture but, I have had a strong desire to be as self sufficient as possible for as long as I can remember. As a city girl I wasn’t quite sure what that looked like. Well, because of your amazing videos we are having the time of our life creating our happily ever after homestead. God bless you for taking the time to share your knowledge and experiences. We just love you and have enjoyed welcoming you into our home. I’m blind and my husband is a disabled vet so wen have a few extra obstacles to overcome. Y’all have helped us bypass many of the mistakes we would have made had you not enlightened us. We appreciate the love and laughter you share in addition to the knowledge. Thank you! We look forward to your videos each day and reference your past videos frequently! We hope you feel the love from BLIND FAITH FARM in Idaho!👍❤️
great video charlies water barrel looks like it has both bung plugs in. it may be creating vacuum in the barrel trying removing one and placing screen over the opening to keep the water clean
Omg ! They are all adorable! I'm so loving this video! Can't wait to see the babies!!! They are seriously so sweet like puppies! I love how they talk to you!
Thank you for sharing the feeding platform. My husband & I built one similar for our pigs after seeing your platform. We are raising Old Spots this year. I would love to try these Idaho Pasture pigs eventually. Thanks for sharing. Much 💜 from Hidden Heights Farm.
Your pigs are doing great in their new homes. Thanks for sharing your views. I live in the city so can't even have chickens, but I enjoy watching y'all raise your own food, both meat & produce. Have a Blessed day.
My husband and I are planning on moving to southern Missouri in the spring and starting our own homestead with our boys thanks to you Sarah, and we would LOVE to get some baby pigs from yall! We have been looking for a little over a week and there is some amazing land in Missouri.
Kevin we raise pigs when I was a kid. It was a messy stinky experience. Your pigs are fantastic! So great to see there are different kinds with great qualities.
I’m just grinning ear to ear, this share was amazing! Who knew how marvelous having pig’s could be and their paddocks so neat, it’s like the don’t know they are pigs 😋. Always grateful 4 your generous life shares.
Oh my god when he was sniffing the camera and you got to see his little teeth. So. Cute. I am moving from AZ to Kentucky and a big ole pet pig is #1 on my list!!!
New subscriber here!! Love your ease around the pigs. Leaned a lot already. And you did not repeat yourself constantly. Some shows are exhausting, had to cut them loose but you my friend are easy to listen to. Keep it up. Shout out from Houston
Hi guys, my husband and I love your vlogs. Thank you for teaching us every day with your programs. Please make a video of 50 questions about you, you have a beautiful family. God bless you.😊
Good morning to you all, great video with your pigs. Lots of good information and caring for them also. Understanding they are food being raised and carrying through at the dinner table is good. Thanks for sharing with us and keep up the good work and videos. Fred.
Great video, I am enjoying learning with you about the IPPs. I hope to have some property where I can have some of my own here in north central Texas. Thanks for taking the time to share, Paul from Texas
To Tame , We learned from a vet when we adopted a shy Dalmatian to not stand over and try to put your hand on top of the animal but to keep your body and hand low, to pet the chin, chest, shoulder until it is not shy, 🤗it worked Try a Little marshmallow in one hand and pet with the other 💖
If you put a roof over the feeding area you could put gutters on it to make your waterer self serving and also use that as the replacement shelter for Charlie
I second that request! I love following the morning feeding routine. Of course the icing on that cake was the duck run. How are they adapting to their new, limited area?
Those pigs and you ...look like the perfect match....I can tell you do love them! They are fun! We just got 2 feeders for the year...I would love to buy a couple from you!
Y’all are great! I have learned so much from watching your videos I’ve always wanted to homestead and y’all have really given me more motivation to work toward that goal
It is a good practice to wrap your chain around the post and hang the tag end outside the gate. That way they can't come by and lift it off with their nose! Good luck and be safe!
Hi Kevin & Sara! I LOVE your videos and have learned so much from you! Especially about gardening! I know you guys are used to just raising feeders and therefore they dont require much maintenance....but now that your raising breeders they do require a little bit. Please dont forget to keep up with their hoof trimming. Im sure you've trimmed your goats hooves, its basically the same thing. Im sure you will LOVE your IPPs as much as we love ours! God Bless!
I just found you today. I love you two! Thank you so much for making these videos! I especially love watching and learning about the animals. I live in the city and have 4 hens which I love.
I know nothing about the Idaho Pastured pigs, but my experience with hogs (many, many years ago) was it was the Sows to watch for aggression, especially if they have litters around the same time. Definitely will watch your progress because it would be nice to have pork again but was turned off by past experience with breeding. Thank you for taking us along.
We use to put bowling balls in with our pigs. They LOVED rolling them around their enclosure. it helped keep them busy when they were bored & bowling balls are practically indestructible. Lol Your pigs might enjoy some toys, they sure liked that bucket. Lol
If you made a shelter over the feeding station it would keep food dry and provide shade in summer. Then you could raise water drum and catch water from shelter in water drum.👍🏻😎
When I was a boy we used those waterers from a barrel sitting up on a barrel. That gave enough pressure for them to work. We kept a metal bucket in their pens with a couple of baseball size rocks inside to make noise. They would play with them all day. You can wet their feed to keep waste down.
Charlie and the rest need a scratching post. I got lucky and was given a street sweeper roll and put it on a railroad ties and they love it. Just a railroad post alone planted 2ft in the ground works too. Nice pigs BTW. 🐖🐷🐽
All of our pigs have been chatty (hamps, Berks, yorks & durocs), though maybe that’s because we have always chatted with them 😆 I can’t believe they have left your ground alone haha that is pretty amazing!
Charlie is adorable. He was definitely laughing 😂
Charlie ripped up his shelter in sexual frustration seeing those gorgeous girls he can't get to! Cheer up Charlie, your day will come 😄
He will really tear stuff up if he catches a sniff of the girls in heat. OMG he will destroy the entire pen. He will get to them any way he can.
Beautiful animals. Love the fact that they are non-agressive. They really grown quite fast. Enjoy them. Thank you for sharing.. Blessings, Laura M🐓🌼
Name him sutty
Ava would be a good name for the pig 🐖
Charley is so cute. I just love him. Love the laughs.
Make sure your barrels are vented at the top, if not you won’t have good flow regardless of how high you raise them.
I’ve had my grandson since Sunday and I said to him after breakfast. It’s Tuesday...let’s go watch some living traditions homestead. Lol
Those pigs seem like the perfect breed ! They are so gentle, especially the boar. The feeding platform is a great idea.

Good morning. The pigs are really happy, playing with each other. Wonderful job, keep up the great work. God bless
Thanks Kevin this is a great video. It made me smile and I really need that right now. Those pigs are marvelous creatures. Have fun stay safe and healthy
You two do such a good job explaining things in a way that is easy to understand. I also look forward to seeing new videos. Thanks and God Bless.
Good morning. I would love to see you feed the pigs some marshmallows. Have a good day. God bless.
The white one reminds me of Wilbur from Charlotte's Web 🐷🕸️🕷️
I was born in the countryside in Eastern Washington but live in city since 1982. I loved this video you presented the homestead as a very attractive opportunity and alternative to city life.
Love them they way they don’t tare up their ground best pigs to have and play full
@Family Man too
Charlie sounds like he's having an actual conversation with you!🤯💞
Pigs seem to be the favorite among farm animals to raise. They are great to watch and listen to. Take care of each other. :0)
I LOVE how vocal they are!
Can you do a video specifically on your platforms for the pigs. I'm really interested in building them.
Great looking bunch! Charlie reminds me of one of my breeding boars, Oscar... Oscar Myer. Good luck!!
Casey. Do you have a pic of your huts?
We raise Kunekune pigs and they are very vocal. It's nice to see this breed exhibiting so many desirable Kunekune traits. ❤
Hey Kevin, Since your boar hog like to sleep on his feed station so well, you should try putting him on a floored shelter. You could build a back wall in it also for the harsh winter months. We raise Boston Terriers. All the breeders I know put “pig rails” in their whelping boxes. Now I know why we use that term , lol
Rick Preston don’t think they will be around in the winter
Pigs are very smart. They ARE very playful and entertaining. Give them time and they will get close to you.
Your pigs are beautiful and very healthy-looking! Bowling balls are a good item for them to roll around and play with.
Then they can play keep away
They do get bored, and 'toys', like a hanging tire help.....but they get bored quickly again.
The Back Porch Farmer that sounds like a great idea! I was thinking they needed a ball to play with, but they would destroy a regular horse ball.
They seem absolutely great! So glad it's working out for you. Edit: just an idea you may want to consider raising up some breeding pairs as you get established these are very hard to find

Sarah, what about Tootsie? She's shaped like a Tootsie roll and is kind of the color of a Tootsie roll. Enjoy seeing you guys!

Great video, so informative and educational

Those pigs are so pretty. I like Charlie's pattern.
Thank you. How are the bunnies. Can you do more overall videos. I love to see all your animals.
