The legalise jokes with Clive are because he was a lawyer in the past
Rob's "it's not the fire" tangent is classic humour .. rest of the panel immediately knows to drag it out and make him work for it.
Polish people are known in the UK for their hardworking abilities.
Poland is the Mexico of the UK
That one went right over their heads... woooosh!
It's more a case of doing it at half the price for cash.
Well said ....
@@ripgeorgie3156Yeah, but that is quite the cultural difference to be fair.
I was a firefighter for 25 yrs, the Fireman's Pole is the quickest, safest and most efficient method of getting to the fire engine,. It takes less than a second to reach the appliance room. If you have to run downstairs that can take 10-15 seconds plus you risk tripping and falling down the stairs. And, as Stephen says when you are talking about saving lives every second counts.
Plus you don't grip with your hands, you grip with knees and ankles, you just hook your arm around the pole for stability, wish I had a penny for every time I have gone down a pole with a cup of tea in my hand and not spilled a drip.
Pole is a person from Poland. To explain the first joke about fixing tiles in the bathroom. Polish people tend to do most of the handiwork in the uk
No they don't.

The pole was created to prevent all the broken ankles running down the stairs.
Those last few seconds with Rob's 'teacher' style seemed taylor-made for you guys lol
Cheers as always guys!
I’ve been down a fire pole as a school trip took us to a fire station back in the 1970s we also went up in the ladder, that was back when they allowed common sense to prevail. That fire station is now a converted pub called the firehouse.
Jodi seemed shocked that in the past, firemen would let a house burn if it the owner didn't have the right insurance. Well, it still happens today...
Search for: "No pay, no spray: Firefighters let home burn
Firefighters in rural Tennessee let a home burn to the ground because the homeowner hadn't paid a $75 fee."
I love the type of comedy from Rob here. British humor is often more ironic and suttle, and american humor is more right in your face. Probably why I`m the only one laughing
My grandmother was a cleaner for the local city council. She had to sign the Official Secrets Act because a part of her job was to clean a local nuclear bunker. She said the emergency _entrance_ was a slide.
so she broke the Official Secrets Act by telling you LOL
@@punkpopnotdead Yup... but she's been dead now for 15-ish years so what are they gonna do lol?
A "flashover" is probably one of the most interesting and scary things that smoke does during a fire. As hot smoke rises and fills the ceiling in a thick layer, it acts as a heat shield that radiates heat back down in to the room. This heat causes all organic materials in the room to decompose, releasing natural flammable gases as part of that decaying process. At the right temperature these gases ignite and the entire room is suddenly engulfed in a split second. It can happen in just 3 minutes of a single fire starting in a room.
The most interesting thing I've read for a long time!
My understanding is that, when on duty, firefighters will come to your house and fit smoke alarms. They will come in the fire engine and in full gear, that way if they are called out they can go straight away. (UK) There was controversy about two decades or more ago when the government decided to change the shift patterns for fire fighters, I'm not sure what from, but it changed to several days in a row very long shifts then lots of days off between . There were a series of strikes when that happened. Other interesting thing, my parents lived next door to a fire fighter for 30 years and they noticed that every winter if they were expecting icy weather, a gritter van would lay grit on their road and the connecting roads on the estate up to the main road (which was gritted anyway). When their neighbour retired from the fire service, the gritting stopped. Lesson there, if you want your road gritted, live next to a firefighter!
UK here. Love Brooklyn 99. No silly audience laughter just great wacky characters.
While firefighters do have their downtime, they do have tasks and work to do. They keep all the fire equipment clean and maintained. There’s a reason those engines always look polished.
My dad was a fireman. He said it is 90% boredom and 10% terror.
@@sallycrane6317 In Sweden they play floorball. All the time. They are basically professional floorball players...

I'm sure that they have PS 5 also, but they also keep up their physical and mental fitness while at work...
"Joonas Mäkipelto from Finland recently smashed the record for the Most chin ups in 24 hours with a mind-blowing 5,050 reps, in spite of suffering a painful shoulder injury during the early stage of the attempt.
The firefighter undertook the challenge in the Shopping centre Ideapark, in Lempäälä, Finland on a stage in front of an audience."
I suspect a lot of the older firehouses in big US cities, such as NY (think of the old firehouse in Ghostbusters!) will be narrower and on multiple floors - with a pole!
It's not only the smoke, it's Hot Smoke, when you breath Hot Smoke, you burn your troth and your longs.
You didn't listen. They said there are still poles, but idiots complaining about health and safety being too strict think there are not.
Your reaction at 5:10 is how the rest of us feel when Americans tell us about their healthcare system.
Even worse, that thing with the firemen refusing to put out the fire happens TODAY in the USA! Search for "No pay, no spray: Firefighters let home burn
Firefighters in rural Tennessee let a home burn to the ground because the homeowner hadn't paid a $75 fee.
Ironically, in some places in the USA, firemen will still let a house burn if it the owner doesn't have the right insurance.... Search for: "No pay, no spray: Firefighters let home burn Firefighters in rural Tennessee let a home burn to the ground because the homeowner hadn't paid $75 fee"
Firefighters in the UK will attend accidents like road traffic collisions, rescues, chemical spills, explosions, urban search and rescue, floods and other high volume water incidents and other emergency threats.
I have been to RTA's to pick up wrecked cars on behalf of the police, if the fire brigade are called they have certain ways of doing things regardless of circumstances, sometimes this leads to tension with the police who are under pressure to clear and open roads, I have heard the fire service referred to as trumpton, a kids programme, the water babys and other things
Nick is Jodi's biggest kid (brat)
The idea that insurance companies would not put out fires has since been discredited. In fact they often would put out the fires because it was seen as a good publicity for the insurance company. There's a great Tom Scott video about it after he pulled is own video which had made the same original claim as QI.
The chap in the dark shirt is Dom Jolly he went to the same school as Osama Bin laden in Lebanon.
There's also a danger of suffocation from the oxygen being consumed by fire.
You talk of fire and the dangers. Can I suggest you react to the Ten Most Effective British Adverts.... I warn you though it is heavy going.., don't look at it lightly. They are though very, very, effective and thought provoking.
Dom Joly does pranks on people take a look at some of those, plenty on you tube his show was called Trigger happy
If American firefighters have barbecues on the job I wonder if they have ever had an uncontrolled fire at a fire station. QI ?
Jeez, haven't you ever seen Ghostbusters?
Id' suggest Michael Michael McIntyre's interview on old Top Gear. Because it was F*U*N*N*Y*

There's so many cut backs in the UK for the fire service, but there's still a long waiting list to join...its quite a cushy job...health and safety stops them from doing anything really dangerous now....
Yeah, it's really cushy. Did you know that they only have to respond to emergencies between the hours of 3pm - 4pm, and that they're not actually allowed within 3 miles of a fire?
You couldn't make this stuff up...
The Us is QUITE big, so you tend to have enough room for bigger one story houses. In a cramped (and expensive) european city that's different. I think the pole (over stairs) is mostly tradition now. they didin't really give a different reason.
The trouser pulling up argument doesn't really make sense, becasue you can't "hold it up" while sliding down the pole.
of course that pole joke was from before Brexit.
At. 5:11 why are you looking so appalled? This is pretty much how the american healthcare system works.
Got insurance? No? Too bad.
Got insurance? Yes? But it's with a competing hospital? Too bad.
This guy's continued attempts at trying to coin a catchphrase is embarrasing.
Every video he tries to think of something to rhyme with 'here we go' and the only thing he's come up with so far is 'here we schmoe' and now 'here she doesn't go'. 🤦♂️
