  • Jennette McCurdy’s memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died has one of the most shocking titles imaginable. Though Jennette seemed to be living every little girl’s dream as a Nickelodeon child star-behind the scenes, her life was a downright horror story.

Growing up in a hoarding situation messes with your life in ways you can't predict. I grew up in one of those (not hardcore, but bad enough that the rooms had bags of clothing stacked all over the floor so that there were walkways one'd have to use) and now I throw things out with abandon because I'm terrified of becoming a hoarder myself.
Parents who push you into things you don't want and treat you as a glorified accessory to show off are even worse.

My grandmother had huge issues. As a little girl, I can recall going to her house, walking into a dark home, with a huge pile of clothes in the middle of the living room. It looked like a pyramid! Went to the top just shy of the light. She walked the beach and constantly picked up anything she thought we could use 🤦🏼‍♀️. I then innerstood why my mom was the way she was. She literally had a sick woman, who was supposed to be taking care of her. Hoarding is probably only the outer shell of mental challenges. 🙏🏼🥰🙌🏼💫

I kind of hate to say this, but I'm glad my mother is dead too. She did nothing but put me down, made me feel useless, and gave me PTSD. I tried so hard to be her friend but she wouldn't let me. Sometimes I wonder why I kept trying, I guess it's because you only get one mother and I desperately wanted her to love me. She disparaged me every chance she got, and it hurts my heart to know that she didn't love me. I, out of us 4 kids, look JUST like my dad who left her, every time she looked at me she saw him. I don't blame him for leaving her, but he left me too. She passed last year and I've yet to cry about it. I just don't feel it. She broke me, with joy in her heart. Yes, she was that cold and cruel.

I know what this is like: feeling like a robot, living every single day doing things you don't want to, hiding your voice deep inside, a voice that ends up becoming an inner scream that never ends and no one hears, not even yourself, because you've gotten so used to numbing it out and ignoring it.
Acting on the outside like everything is perfectly fine, that you're happy, and the dread that builds up in your stomach becomes a black hole, sucking anything into it that could shed some light on your depression, sadness, and terror. 😢
I never felt like I'd be free. I've been free for 6 years now!! My mind is now my own and so is my life. Mindfulness and meditation has helped me along with prayer ❤
I always thought death would be my only escape and my only option for peace. Leaving was the hardest, scariest thing I've ever done for myself!!!!

They came into the restaurant my friend worked in often -not together but they both behaved in the same entitled fashion. Bragging on their daughter and wanting free everything. Both would get hammered, and both went to the restroom every 20 minutes or so. Although both were terrible, the mother was worse. I think -cause the father was in prison when she became known and the mother took her out on the town giving her drinks and substances when she was 15.
No small wonder LL spent her teens and 20s in and out of jail/rehab, she had them as examples.

Ridiculous title. Hollywood's Worst Stage Mother??? The mother Deborah is a pathetic amateur compared to notorious stage mothers like Natalie Wood's mother. Mrs. Gurdin (Natalie's real last name) had a burning ambition and would do almost anything. She let the young Natalie film a dangerous scene which resulted in an accident where Natalie fell into raging water and almost drowned, triggering a lifelong deep fear of water and swimming. Natalie also broke her wrist, but her mother persuaded Natalie to keep quiet about it and soldier on with filming. Mrs. Gurdin was afraid that if Natalie asked for a brreak in filming so shr could get medical help, the studio might simply replace Natalie with another child actress and they would lose the role. Natalie wound up with a disfigured wrist as a result of her waiting to seek medical help for so long after the accident.
Mrs. Gurdin was constantly pushing Natalie, and did not allow Natalie to have other friends as she was worried that Natalie would be distracted from acting. Mrs. Gurdin also found a way to get Natalie to cry for a scene, when Natalie was having trouble getting out tears. She took Natalie aside and showed her a beautiful butterfly in a glass jar. Natalie was delighted. Then Mrs.Gurdin grabbed the butterfly and ripped off the wings in front of Natalie's face. She gpt the tears she wanted. Mrs Gurdin was also happy and excited to see Natalie go off to a private meeting with a very famous and powerful older Hollywood man, a married guy like twice 16yr old Natalie's age (most people believe that man to havr been Kirk Douglas). Natalie was led to believe it had to do with auditioning for a major role. The man lured Natalie to his hotel suite and then brutally beat and r*ped Natalie, causing her injuries. The bloody and beaten Natalie made it home to her mother - who told Natalie to keep quiet about it, afraid of what could happen to Natalie's career if they upset the Hollywood big shot.
Ironically Natalie would later play Gypsy Rose Lee onscreen. Lee grew up with a pushy stage mother herself, who encouraged Lee to become a stripper. Anything for fame and fortune.

Where was her Dad in all of this ,or her grandparents.Mums get all the blame ,if they care too much they are controlling narcissists,if they don't care they are selfish neglectful. Its obvious this mother had mental issues.Hoarding is a symptom of untreated mental disorder.I have a semi hoarded house and a 19 year old daughter .I have hunted high and low for mental health support for myself so that it wouldn't affect my daughter .I never got the help from family or doctors and sadly my daughter has been affected.I tried so hard ,but mothers always fail in some way.We are the ones that take the blame. Not the absent neglectful fathers.

It turned out that the father she knows is not her biological father. She’s a child from an affair. Also, her father was working multiple jobs that’s why he’s physically absent. he’s a pushover and her mom is abusing her husband too. It’s good enough he didn’t bail out. Her grandad was good to her and tried multiple times to convince her mother to get treatment. Her grandmother is the same as her mother.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭9‬-‭11‬ ‭NIV‬‬
For those that are yet to be born again, I encourage you to surrender your totality to Jesus. Please do so today, for there is no salvation in the grave! Bad and Narcistic Mom. However, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the worst) of child abuse, this story comes in at a mere 3 in abuse. There is so many more instances of neglect in our society that at least rise to a 5 on the abuse scale. Neglect -That is one charge she could not make of her mother.

Nonsense! You apparently have no real understanding of blessing and curses. Do some real homework on the superficial and the profound. Her cursing her mother is a path to unhappiness no talent can overcome. “Honor thy father and mother” is the first Commandment with a promise, “that things will go well with you, and you will live ling in the land I have given.” Do you suppose the parent has to be “honorable” for this is obeyed? If course nit! This is given for our health, and well being, and for societal health, as well. The gifts she has were fostered by others, while she admits her resistance. There is a very significant lesson to be learned here! But, its not cursing your parent no matter how terrible they may seem. BTW, we have only her side of the story…told by an actress who is trained in hyperbole. Don’t be so easily taken in without looking deeper.
