- Jennette McCurdy’s memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died has one of the most shocking titles imaginable. Though Jennette seemed to be living every little girl’s dream as a Nickelodeon child star-behind the scenes, her life was a downright horror story.

I’m glad she was able to save herself with the help of therapy. So many child actors become addicts or die young. I hope she finally found happiness in life.
Same. It’s very telling she wants nothing to do with acting anymore.
@@denisesaenz9987 I'm not sure if she has been able to overcome years of abuse.
It's childhood trauma that leads to substance abuse.
Therapy is a scheme to take people's money. It's a parlor trick to say the least.😅
She was surrounded by monsters. 😮
❤❤
Growing up in a hoarding situation messes with your life in ways you can't predict. I grew up in one of those (not hardcore, but bad enough that the rooms had bags of clothing stacked all over the floor so that there were walkways one'd have to use) and now I throw things out with abandon because I'm terrified of becoming a hoarder myself.
Parents who push you into things you don't want and treat you as a glorified accessory to show off are even worse.
My grandmother had huge issues. As a little girl, I can recall going to her house, walking into a dark home, with a huge pile of clothes in the middle of the living room. It looked like a pyramid! Went to the top just shy of the light. She walked the beach and constantly picked up anything she thought we could use 🤦🏼♀️. I then innerstood why my mom was the way she was. She literally had a sick woman, who was supposed to be taking care of her. Hoarding is probably only the outer shell of mental challenges. 🙏🏼🥰🙌🏼💫
@@AwakenedOne447 My grandmother (on my father's side) was also a hoarder. And yeah, I feel like a lot of the time it's a symptom of underlying mental issues, not an issue of its own.
I knew a very nice man who was a “clean horder.” What I discovered is that he had unhealthy relationships with ex girlfriends. I concluded that horders also horde people and can’t let go.
I totally understand how you feel. Growing up in a hoarding environment can have a huge psychological impact. Choosing to deal with it by getting rid of stuff is a way to take back control of your life.
I highly doubt you will be hoarder. For starters you are aware
Her mom was mentally sick, which transferred into her being physically sick. It doesn't excuse what she put her daughter through and I'm glad she has been able to heal with therapy and I hope she has many who are close to her to continue being by her side.
One in two of us will get cancer whether we're mentally sick or not.
I read her book. Incredibly sad. Hope she finds happiness.
We do too.
The book was so so
helpful for me .
.
@ritahorvath8207 could you expound?
I want to read it. When I saw the title I laughed and felt sorry for her at the same time. I knew that was a book I could relate to. I found out my mother had died and I was so so happy.😀
❤
2 years at number 1 on the NY Times Bestsellers List! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This poor girl endured Mommy Dearest on steroids. How awful for her!
So very sad x😢😢😢
Her mother was a toxic narcissist. So was mine. 😢
So was mine. That's why I want to read her book.
Can relate too😢
There is alot of us with mothers like this. It's been very difficult
This book is A MUST READ! So elegantly tragic. Proud of you Janet! And thank you for sharing your story. And thank you for following YOUR DREAMS.
It’s sad to hear how she suffered behind the scenes, even at the hands of her mom. So many children with sad childhoods, especially in Hollywood. Even when Hollywood first started, they mistreated the children and their parents were enablers, like Judy Garland’s mom.
❤
The creator is Dan Schneider - it’s well known and he should be in prison
He is also known as a preditor and pervert. He quietly disappeared from Nick.
An Brian Peck . he was still working on two an a half men as a voice coach as long as he stayed in the stars trailer !!! A convicted sex offender ! Yet they fire Johnny ? Disney !!! Sickolodeon
He has weird fetishs including putting ketup on young girls bare feet

He's Satan slave ❗
It’s child abuse plain and simplw
Facts 💯
I recognized her from iCarly, but never knew her name. Such a sad story. Thank you for sharing her story.
I kind of hate to say this, but I'm glad my mother is dead too. She did nothing but put me down, made me feel useless, and gave me PTSD. I tried so hard to be her friend but she wouldn't let me. Sometimes I wonder why I kept trying, I guess it's because you only get one mother and I desperately wanted her to love me. She disparaged me every chance she got, and it hurts my heart to know that she didn't love me. I, out of us 4 kids, look JUST like my dad who left her, every time she looked at me she saw him. I don't blame him for leaving her, but he left me too. She passed last year and I've yet to cry about it. I just don't feel it. She broke me, with joy in her heart. Yes, she was that cold and cruel.
I can relate, very similar situation with my mother. No one else can inflict more pain on me than my own mother has in my lifetime. Then was shocked and incredulous that I was cutting her out of my life for good because of the toxicity. One more time she had something to blame me for and act as if I was the cause and not her own disgusting behavior. I hope you find peace in your life somehow, someday...
@
Oh my gosh!! I'm so sorry you had to deal with this too. You're absolutely right, almost the same exact story!! ❤️🩹
I know what this is like: feeling like a robot, living every single day doing things you don't want to, hiding your voice deep inside, a voice that ends up becoming an inner scream that never ends and no one hears, not even yourself, because you've gotten so used to numbing it out and ignoring it.
Acting on the outside like everything is perfectly fine, that you're happy, and the dread that builds up in your stomach becomes a black hole, sucking anything into it that could shed some light on your depression, sadness, and terror. 😢
I never felt like I'd be free. I've been free for 6 years now!! My mind is now my own and so is my life. Mindfulness and meditation has helped me along with prayer ❤
I always thought death would be my only escape and my only option for peace. Leaving was the hardest, scariest thing I've ever done for myself!!!!
I hear you and see you. I'm glad it's gotten better for you. My mother just passed and I feel relief as awful as that sounds. I can finally have my own life
I too am waiting to be free of my @buser. He's 94 and i am 58. I worry that he will haunt me although a psychic friend told me i will never see him again.
She’s a beautiful girl!
How sad that she hated acting, because the reality is, she was very, very good at what she did. I really liked her show.
Great job on the video and the commentary guys. Heartbreaking. Everyone who was a child at the beginning of this story is essentially a victim to Nickelodeon and Hollywood. I shudder thinking I used to watch shows like Drank and Josh, Amanda Show, and All That for entertainment as a kid, now knowing what kind of things were going on behind the scenes. Truly skews one's whole perspective of the entertainment industry and the television age.
Her mother is a stone-cold amateur compared to DUIna Lohan, who was given a million-dollar house by her used-to-be actress daughter - no mortgage - then obtained massive home equity loans to fuel her party life, blew through it all, and the house was foreclosed on. Anyone who saw her completely blotto on the Dr. Phil show will understand.
You watch Dr. Phil ??
Both of her parents are idiots.
I live on LI
They came into the restaurant my friend worked in often -not together but they both behaved in the same entitled fashion. Bragging on their daughter and wanting free everything. Both would get hammered, and both went to the restroom every 20 minutes or so. Although both were terrible, the mother was worse. I think -cause the father was in prison when she became known and the mother took her out on the town giving her drinks and substances when she was 15.
No small wonder LL spent her teens and 20s in and out of jail/rehab, she had them as examples.
Am glad she found her peace on the other side of the world (practically). She looks younger now than when she abused substances.
Lindsey's mother is horrible. She behaved like a child on the Dr. Phil show. A drunken one. I felt so sad that she had to have that for a mother. Did she move to Abu Dabi?
@@AJLinthe5D she lives with her husband and child in Dubai, (is that Abu Dabi? -geography and me arent friends ..lol) but also spends a lot of time in Greece. She owns a chain of nightclubs that are very successful.
@@albertawheat6832 dr. Phil is a fraud.
I started watching iCarly with my granddaughter. I actually liked Jennette's character better than the other girl. I sensed a sadness inside her and wanted to hug her and tell her everything will be okay.
Well Truthfully Said 💯
I understand and agree with the title of the book. I admire her courage to call a spade, a spade. Before Debra was her "mother," she was a woman living with mental problems, which invariably, stained how she brought her daughter up. I am going to read her book, and I will look for her strength and healing. God bless and God's speed, Jeannette.
I'm glad she got out❤ GOOD FOR YOU GIRLFRIEND 🎉
I feel so bad for her and hope she finds happiness and peace. There needs to stricter regulations and oversight for child actors since they are being exploited on every level, even by parents.
Almost every child actor/entertainer is the sole source of income for the family - that never goes well. 💔
It’s a brilliant autobiography. Loved every minute of it. I’m so glad she is free now. ❤
Nice to hear a fellow Aussie. Thankyou for this. 😊
I so loved Jannette when I first saw her on ICarly! She’s an amazing actress with incredible sense of comedic timing! I’m so proud of her strength and self care! Bravo young lady!! We still adore you!!
Jeanette McCurdy is so much more likable than Ariana Grande. Ariana is a horrible role model.
She said she has been thru hell but idk if she meant this sicko stuff.some say her parents where always close so.probably not ...idk
❤❤❤❤💯💯💯
So glad she survived her upbringing. She was a very good actress and I’m sure she is a good writer also.
Never heard of her before this video. I hope she can find contentment and happiness in life. I'm sure she'll find something she can be good at and hopefully stick to it.
She was a big actor in her teens. My daughter watched her on iCarly, never missing an episode. She was a funny kid. It's a shame what her mother & Hollywood did to her.
WHAT?? She grew up with my kids, she's practically a member of the family!!
8:13 Look at them, so sad. I'm glad Jenette's doing alright. I hope the others are too.
Why does Hollywood/celebrities have so many sad stories or horror stories? It’s like the whole industry is demonic. I’m so jaded by these tragedies it’s hard for me to enjoy movies and music like I used to when I was a kid. It feels like everything was a lie
Because if you had a crappy childhood, you see fame as a way to get the love & attention you were denied. On steroids.
I read it. It was really good and very well written.
how terribly sad 😔💔
As a adult I understand always smiling when inside I felt like ai was dying.
I hope her money was invested properly so she as an adult can live leisurely and do what actually makes her happy.
❤❤❤❤❤❤ WELL DONE YOUNG LADY AND DONT LOOK BACK.THIS IS YOUR REAL LIFE NOW.BE TRUE TO YOURSELF. ❤❤❤❤❤
I listened to her book on audio books. Outstanding read! Highly recommend. 👍
Nasty insults and making her cry. My father could be the same way. As adults, my dad and I had a relationship, but we were never close.
Janet's best day was when her mother passed away I've never said something like that but I agree with her I hope she gets the help she needs She's a beautiful young lady
I never heard of her and this was a very interesting story
Thanks! Glad you liked it 🤓
WHAT?? You've never heard of i-carly?? I guess you don't have any kids then?
Showering and wiping your kids butt at 8 is not normal?
She's beautiful tho
It's always a BIG Problem when little girls start getting screwed by older hairy goats.what happened to her father - little girls ALWAYS will try and find their father.
Her father turned out to not be her real father. She connected with her real father years later. He was also a piece of shit along with the “father” she was raised with. Shitty people should not have children
Jeanette was in one of my favorite episodes of the t.v. show "MEDIUM" . She is a really great actress.
I read the book she is a great narrator.
Another great video....
And look at what Arianna turned into. 👺
Why didn’t the father who raised her ever say something or stand up to her mother?
So many families are horrors
Talk about a narcissistic mother!
Her mom was crazy
Lord I know it My father was a hoarder what a mind effing ordeal! Happy to not finish anything support everything but not come thru for anyone Barely keeping head above water bullshtuff is what U call that
She's adorable.
Sounds like Jodi Fosters life…..
Ny daughter 25 n she keeps surrounding herself with ppl who dont believe in God n witch craft .. Help me pray for my baby girl
Sad story but there really are other women whose mothers are/were as bad or worse. Just some of the variables are different/were changed because of the uniqueness of everyone involved
At least her mother died young mine lived until I was 60 then my husband died a few years after that. Sure wish he and I had more time without her constant interference.
There is no “but”. It is a sad story. Period.
@@IrishTexan09So, how many women did you intentionally slap in the face with your comment? Guess you didn't even read the comment from @broeheemed32 further down...................
Judy Garland is a perfect example
Nah that'd be BrookevShield mom. Did her Mom force her into c.a?
May i know "what she had always wanted to do" instead of acting and being in the limelight? If she's contemporary with Ariana, she is at the prime of her life, but with everything before it prepping her to just do showbiz, i do wonder about it.
She wanted to be a writer, and is now doing just that... and doing it well too ❤
💔 😢
Abracadabra 🔥
Don't change your looks for no one
Never heard of her!
Ridiculous title. Hollywood's Worst Stage Mother??? The mother Deborah is a pathetic amateur compared to notorious stage mothers like Natalie Wood's mother. Mrs. Gurdin (Natalie's real last name) had a burning ambition and would do almost anything. She let the young Natalie film a dangerous scene which resulted in an accident where Natalie fell into raging water and almost drowned, triggering a lifelong deep fear of water and swimming. Natalie also broke her wrist, but her mother persuaded Natalie to keep quiet about it and soldier on with filming. Mrs. Gurdin was afraid that if Natalie asked for a brreak in filming so shr could get medical help, the studio might simply replace Natalie with another child actress and they would lose the role. Natalie wound up with a disfigured wrist as a result of her waiting to seek medical help for so long after the accident.
Mrs. Gurdin was constantly pushing Natalie, and did not allow Natalie to have other friends as she was worried that Natalie would be distracted from acting. Mrs. Gurdin also found a way to get Natalie to cry for a scene, when Natalie was having trouble getting out tears. She took Natalie aside and showed her a beautiful butterfly in a glass jar. Natalie was delighted. Then Mrs.Gurdin grabbed the butterfly and ripped off the wings in front of Natalie's face. She gpt the tears she wanted. Mrs Gurdin was also happy and excited to see Natalie go off to a private meeting with a very famous and powerful older Hollywood man, a married guy like twice 16yr old Natalie's age (most people believe that man to havr been Kirk Douglas). Natalie was led to believe it had to do with auditioning for a major role. The man lured Natalie to his hotel suite and then brutally beat and r*ped Natalie, causing her injuries. The bloody and beaten Natalie made it home to her mother - who told Natalie to keep quiet about it, afraid of what could happen to Natalie's career if they upset the Hollywood big shot.
Ironically Natalie would later play Gypsy Rose Lee onscreen. Lee grew up with a pushy stage mother herself, who encouraged Lee to become a stripper. Anything for fame and fortune.
Where was her Dad in all of this ,or her grandparents.Mums get all the blame ,if they care too much they are controlling narcissists,if they don't care they are selfish neglectful. Its obvious this mother had mental issues.Hoarding is a symptom of untreated mental disorder.I have a semi hoarded house and a 19 year old daughter .I have hunted high and low for mental health support for myself so that it wouldn't affect my daughter .I never got the help from family or doctors and sadly my daughter has been affected.I tried so hard ,but mothers always fail in some way.We are the ones that take the blame. Not the absent neglectful fathers.
It turned out that the father she knows is not her biological father. She’s a child from an affair. Also, her father was working multiple jobs that’s why he’s physically absent. he’s a pushover and her mom is abusing her husband too. It’s good enough he didn’t bail out. Her grandad was good to her and tried multiple times to convince her mother to get treatment. Her grandmother is the same as her mother.
Tome hanks u dodged one hun.. Kappy Isaac's was gonna put him.. seth green n more
Arianna Grande....her voice grated on my nerves.
That's so funny - This person that is supposed to be such a big star - I've never heard of her - although she did look somewhat familiar 🎭
Child star. If my kids had not been into watching "iCarly" I would not have known who she was either. She was the most funny character on the show, imo
@@LadyBGoode-gr8wmShe was the REAL talent on iCarly. She can sing, dance, and act. My daughter is still a huge fan of her.
You.probably didn't watch nickelodeon much ?
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”
Romans 10:9-11 NIV
For those that are yet to be born again, I encourage you to surrender your totality to Jesus. Please do so today, for there is no salvation in the grave! Accept Him today as your Lord, Savior and Redeemer. He really loves you and cares for you. Confess all your sins and forsake them. Pray for the grace to live holy and righteously for Jesus. Jesus loves you with an everlasting love and He is with you always. Please don’t turn away from Him, in Jesus’ Name, Amen 🙏🏾❤️

Bad and Narcistic Mom. However, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the worst) of child abuse, this story comes in at a mere 3 in abuse. There is so many more instances of neglect in our society that at least rise to a 5 on the abuse scale. Neglect -That is one charge she could not make of her mother.
Sometimes mental abuse can be worse than physical abuse.
@@tiffanya4113 Maybe in some particular case. However, Jennette's case, although bad, does not rise to a level that even comes close to most abuse cases. Remember, even a seemingly innocuous abuse such as neglect has an overwelming mental component as well. All physical abuse includes mental components, and ultimately it is the internal hurt that does not heal.
I was raised Mormon and she knows nothing about the religion or the truth. What else is she lying about?
You obviously weren't raised on religion at all 😂 look at you acting like you know God personally
@matthew_thekngp1n Look at you being triggered and purposefully, or ignorantly, misinterpret my words. Is that a mormon thing?
She was probably a bad mom in a past life and this was her karma 😬🫣🥺
She needs forgive. You still love your mother. No such thing as saving yourself. You never escape chilhood trauma. Forgive in order to be forgiven
Forgiveness is NOT required.
Oh Plz 🙄
Forced to act and do shows doesn't sound like torture to me
She talks all this shit about her mom yet here she is rich and famous. Had her mom not done all of this Janette would just be another poor person no one knows are cares about. Yes her mom did do some really shitty stuff but look at Janette now. She doesn't have to work for a living and she is famous.

@@susanpeters1092 she wouldn't have been famous and no one would have cared about her book
Being rich and famous does not equal happiness.
@@ShelleySorenson no it doesn't but had she not been rich and famous no one would give a damn about her story and she wants people to care about her story

In a field she hated? No, that’s not good parenting.

@@peggypasson8794 you are confusing her with Amanda Bynes. Janette never had an abortion at 15. And Janette seems to be doing pretty well these days.
Alas, Jennette McCurdy is doomed.
Her mother, insane herself, drove Jennette insane too.
NO community ANYWHERE on Earth will EVER allow ANYONE to lose even the LEAST soundness of mind for even a FRACTION of a SECOND...
...and still permit that someone to live.
then you're doomed too you psycho
Nonsense! You apparently have no real understanding of blessing and curses. Do some real homework on the superficial and the profound. Her cursing her mother is a path to unhappiness no talent can overcome. “Honor thy father and mother” is the first Commandment with a promise, “that things will go well with you, and you will live ling in the land I have given.” Do you suppose the parent has to be “honorable” for this is obeyed? If course nit! This is given for our health, and well being, and for societal health, as well. The gifts she has were fostered by others, while she admits her resistance. There is a very significant lesson to be learned here! But, its not cursing your parent no matter how terrible they may seem. BTW, we have only her side of the story…told by an actress who is trained in hyperbole. Don’t be so easily taken in without looking deeper.
Shallow much?
Despite all of this craziness she is who she is, fame and all, because of her mother.
I don't think she wanted or appreciated it.
In spite of, not necessarily because of.
Has she forgiven her parents yet?
Sorry, don’t know this woman. 🥴
What's that got to do with anything? Why would you click on the video of someone you hadn't heard of anyway?
we don't know who you are either, or care
Actually, Jennet is not a really a pretty girl. Pictures of her mother show her mother was the true beauty. Jennet looks like Tiffany Trump. Arguably, an outstanding woman, but no beauty. Perhaps, Jennet’s mother knew where her daughter belonged, as mothers often do, and knew how to get her there.
I fail to see anything necessary in your comment. This woman suffered a horrific childhood and all you can do is tear down her looks? Geez.
