My grandfather said something yrs ago that did not resonate with me at the time but makes much more sense in age. He said children are like saplings. If they begin to grow in a crooked direction you must assist their straightening early, while they're still young. If u wait too long they'll be unable to straighten & will continue growing & become a crooked tree.

I cannot imagine a child in my care starting to defecate in his room without me taking serious action to help them. I have worked with traumatized kids who urinate or defecate on themselves when stressed or panicked and there's simply no way you can see something like that and not react. It's such a serious sign of distress and you have to rule out physiological reasons and look at the psychological reasons behind it.

The fact he did this in bottles/towels was his way to ‘clean up’. Psychopathy would mean him spreading this to annoy the ones doing the cleaning.

What actually likely happened was he was so difficult to parent that she eventually just gave up. I don’t mean a simple back talking or refusing. I mean a child who never concedes. A child who doesn’t learn a thing from being punished and just stews in resentment. A child who is constantly fighting for control and will do anything to have it. There’s very little help available and most therapists aren’t equipped to handle a kid who doesn’t respond to traditional ideas of parenting. And many experts get it entirely wrong when it comes to advising parents. Jo herself has fallen prey to this with her outlast them method. There are some kids who genuinely will never give up. They’re determined to break their parents and outlast them. They will make everyone in the family feel their wrath until they win. And eventually the parents do break because continuing the fight impacts their ability to hold a job, care for other children, just stay sane, or the child becomes violent.

Reality is, you can’t parent away psychopathy. We have no clue why some become killers and others don’t. There’s no common thread in their childhoods. There have been serial killers raised by good parents. What typically happens is these children are so difficult to parent and absolutely nothing works so they eventually just give up for their own sanity. I don’t think people realize how difficult these kids can be. They often do not care at all about punishments. They don’t learn any lessons. They just build resentment. That a child was given final say on what house the family found acceptable to buy, tells you all you need to know. Children who are overindulged learn entitlement, and soon, nothing is good enough. No amount of attention will fill their needs. As there have been no real consequences for the indulged child, they learn that rules don’t apply to them. These kids face no real hardships or consequences, so they are left unprepared and unable to adapt to challenges or a world that doesn’t agree that the child is the center of the universe. The rage this child feels, often toward the parent who indulges them. While this level of violence is unusual, it’s predictable.

Psychology shows it's better to involve children in decisions. That doesn't mean they need to get what they want.
Besides the house part, it doesn't seem like his parents were very active in his life?
Seems like the parents weren't very indulgent if they weren't paying attention to his hobbies or interests. Saying yes or letting a child do w.e without teaching a child appropriate ways to deal or act with things. Is not indulgent parenting. It is not parenting at all.
Angry kids who aren't taught healthy ways to deal with anger will turn into impulsive teens with unhealthy ways of dealing with that anger.
Moms, being the target of that anger, are seen in a lot of male child murderers.
None of this is an excuse for his actions. * Incase anyone thinks im defending him.

Autism is not a deficit. We experience and express emotions differently to allistics, which can make us easily misunderstood by them but it’s not a deficiency, as austitic to autistic communication is not impaired in any way. That teaches the kids why it's wrong and alternate actions, how to recognize problems and how to ask for help for themselves, both for their own need to bully and how to handle bullies. One of my children was bullied and the principal of the expensive school promptly addressed the entire school and laid down the law about the acceptance of the behavior. It immediately improved.

I believe by the time they are 18 they have to start taking some responsibility, but until they are legally adults it’s our job to invest in their well being. How can we do that when we are consumed with ourselves. Having children is truly something that should lead us to become sacrificial in every aspect of ourselves. This is about Mental Health, and our global society has chosen to ignore it for too long. Now we throw the words anxiety and depression around as if it's common. While humans do feel those emotions, a true level of both impacting mental health is much different than feeling worried, sad or nervous. By making it more common place, we simply continue to ignore actual mental health issues.

Why doesn't anyone seem to connect working mothers with the rise of psychologically damaged children? I was a mom of 3 sons and we were not rich but I bought my clothes at the used stores, etc so I could stay home with them. And I had a high paying career before I had kids. I don't believe in handing babies off to strangers. Even as teenagers, you have to spend time with each of them every day. And have a relationship with them where they trust you enough to confide in you. And expect you to help because you try your best. Mothering is a much more important job than one that pays. Parenting is a hands on job. If you don't have energy to deal with them, you're failing them. I think government should support parents more so that 1 parent can stay home with the children.

When I was a psych student it was assumed that you were only one or the other. I have long disagreed with that theory, bc of cases where an individual may have shown some abnormal psychological behavior as a child, but remained "relatively" stable. Then the person suffers from a traumatic head injury for example, and that "releases" any self- control the person may have had with their dark feelings. This is just my opinion of course.🤔

The adults are very cold toward his emotional health and well being.
If he's a psychopath, there's absolutely no way to rehabilitate a psychopath.
It seems like no one loved Daniel.

Jo-Jo as she use to call herself to kids is awesome! I use to watch super nanny as a teen from a dysfunctional family and use what I learned with my siblings kids. I was raised with soap in the mouth, belt threats, and spankings.
Jo is the the one who made me question if that was right. I use the same method more or less on training my dog!
I am very interested in psychology and I think Jo was one of the earliest examples of dealing with people's emotions in a healthy way.
Thanks a lot Jo! I loved your shows growing up and I'm sure will like this one also! "Cheers" from the Midwest USA!

In Daniels case it broke my heart to gear his dad say: No, I don't love him and honestly I think I never did.
I think there is that answer... I don't blame his dad for not loving him now but can you ever as a real parent say you NEVER LOVED your child??
And some professional mentioned a few minutes before: We don't know of it's a inherited trade (Pscyhopathy).
I'm not saying his dad is "sick" but... someone who can say that he never loved his child... maybe that emotional distance/incapability comes from his dad...
    Again. Not blaming the dad...
But his sentence is blowing my mind. And this is coming from a mom of two who had postpartum depression...

It was not the dad that said those words, it was the mother’s boyfriend, and he felt that way because of all the things he saw Daniel do to his mom before he killed her, Daniel was not kind to his mother and it hurt the boyfriend, as the man who loved the mom he did not like the things the son was doing to the woman he loved…

A lot of things were left out of this story. The boyfriend isn’t the most reliable in my opinion. It was interesting how he never spoke of any personality traits of this woman. He stated when he met her he thought it was attractive that she was so into others. That doesn’t seem to track. She didn’t seem to interested in her son’s life.
    Not trying to blame her.
    Where is the dad?

I don’t believe he saved his brother and the dog to be a hero. His vitriol was towards his mother. And because she was the source of his anxiety, killing her relieved that vitriol. He had no beef with anyone else. His parents failed him and left him to his own devices.

When Jo Frost asked Daniel’s step father if he loved him, was very significant.. The man also mentioned more than a few times how inconvenienced he was with Daniel’s attention seeking incidents where he just wanted not to always be bothered. A man like that shouldn’t bother with a woman with children and their growing pains, he should seek out the perfect family or just &*$# right off. I’m not putting any blame on him other than some children need a man in their lives that love and care for them no matter what. All children are different & im sure multiple children families will tell you each child is totally different. I think it’s obvious this child was spoilt and once the parents split he became a problem to the adults who should have nourished him not just abandon him emotionally. What happened to his real father that he couldn’t remain in the school he felt happy in?

    • @frankG335
      @frankG335 2 месяца назад +7

Spoilt? He was alone, living in his own filth, no one caring.
He may have been born a psychopath. If so, he cannot be helped and will do this for the rest of his life when he gets out, a strong young man, in 16 years.
What is wrong with the judicial system in the UK?

We should be wondering WHY are there so many children killing one or more of their parents??? Or a number of other people or a whole school?? I see a pattern 🤔🤔I love the Nanny!! Wise woman 💯

I don't think it's abuse and mistreatment that makes these kids the way they come out They're born this way or they just turn out no matter what I'll give you an example I know 3 children Brothers and sisters and sister Who are so abused broken bones for years Starve starvation you name it They never hit their kids never had trouble with the law had good lives So you're not always correct
