    If you haven’t heard Alan Eaton mono blocks in 300B and/or 45 you’re missing out. I used your 6sn7 adapter in the AE 300B and they sound fantastic, NOS Toshiba Japan 6CG7/6FQ7, thx! These are great videos!

    I keep learning... that my zana deux super se can kill or hurt me, as in treat any tube amp like a lite stove , the little wires with the porcelain tops are no touch e , it take the caps hours 24 to discharge. All from you guys. Many thanks ;)

    Good video to help with circumnavigating the increasing scarcity of output tubes, but I want to point out some misleading wording in comparison of KT88/120/150 in the data sheet values - 35 watts, or 60 or 70 watts respectively is not the output power but the permissible plate dissipation. Would be good to mention that the output power that you can get with those plate dissipation figures depends on the configuration of the output stage.

      Thanks for the insightful comment. You're absolutely right, we should have said max dissipation and not output power. And of course they aren't the same thing.

    Every time I see one of your videos, I immediately watch and almost every time I learn something. Thank you both. And by the way, the tubes I bought from you sound fantastic.

    [Edit: I paused rhe video at two minutes and wrote the following before hearing the rest of what you had to say, butvits still good to vlarify in writing]; the EL34 and US made 6CA7 are not or might not be the "same" tube: the Eoropean-made EL34 are Pentodes with a suppressor grid, while a US made 6CA7 (such as the Sylvania fat-bottle version) is most likely a Beam Power Tube, as are 6L6, 6V6, 5881 etc. EL34 and 6CA7 should be plug-in compatible but the actual electrical and sonic characteristics may be different. The reason the tubes are physically and electrically different is because the American manufacturers didn't want to pay Phillips for the pentode patent manufacturing rights. However, American manufacturers often imported true EL34 pentodes from Europe (especially Mullard tubes) and rebranded them as RCA or GE etc, so you might encounter "American" pentodes ---- but watch out for counterfeits that have been rebranded "made in Great Britain".

    I bought Wilsenton R800i-805 amp and its 12AX7 and 6SN7 (I guess they're Shuguang) compared to Telefunken 12AX7 and Kenrad 6SN7. But, its Psvane 300b and 845 are quite good and survive for 1 year now. I recently bought Line Magnetic LM845 premium amp. Its Shuguang 12AX7 are crabs but its Psvane 300b and 845 are quite good. Again I rolled them with top of the line Acme and they are far better. I also bought 2023 production Western Electric 300b and I like them as much as the Acme 300b. Its Psvane WE310A are excellent. Some said they are more sonicallaly transparent than the original Western Electric 310A.

    Do you know of a substitute for the 6N6P tube? I've been trying different input tubes in my Schiit Valhalla 2 and there is very little difference between the 4 pairs that I've tried, and wondered if swapping the power tubes would make a sonic difference. But my understanding is that 6N6P does not have many (if any) substitutions, but would appreciate your expertise and feedback on the matter.

    As a newbie Very informative thank you. My questionis if it is getting harder and harder to find matched quads, is it possible to have matched pairs in each channel and still produce great sound?

    • @tubelab194
      @tubelab194  День назад

      @@AudioVino1 It all depends on the amp, if we're talking an instrument amp, like a guitar amp, sure, so long as the tubes are reasonably close and will bias up, go for it. For an audio amp, matching is critical for balanced channels. With fixed bias class AB amps (4 tubes), think of the adjustable bias as a trimmer to dial in your tubes. You still need to bring a reasonably close matched quad to the trimmer, then you fine adjust the plate current (mA) for a perfect match.

    What would be a good substitution for an 6973?

    • @goodun2974

      6CZ5, with a slight rewiring of the tube socket (it might only require the addition of a jumper wire between 2 pins but individual amplifiers need their socket wiring inspected before you make any assumptions ---- for instance,, some Magnatone guitar amps had the jumper factory- installed so that either tube could be used but again it's best not to assume anything).
