- Mark continues with the repair of the 1977 vintage SU-3500 Amplifier, which has blown both outputs. A full strip down is required, and he also needs to find a replacement switch cap. Can you still buy spares for these???
I love how Mark always goes the extra mile. Casting those selector knobs was genius.
Or madness. Wouldn't a 3D printer work with this?
No, he mentioned it was too intricate inside 😊
@@markbrum But now he can measure the mold to reproduce the inside!
Now me, I'd have gone the Ebay route to find similar type switches. Or found a similar amp which is knackered to strip for bits.
Amazing!
Here in the states, there are plenty of repair shops and electricians who are qualified to repair various electronics, but Mark is the only one I've ever seen that has a full suite of DIY fabrication tools and supplies, as well as the skills to create rare parts on the fly. What an incredible wealth of knowledge. Having a repair guy with Mark's skills living or working in your hometown is a vintage hi-fi enthusiast's dream.
There’s seemingly no end to the extent of Mark’s talent. Just when I thought the video was wrapped up and the project completed he then molds a matching switch lever to top it off. Truly impressive.
super trabajo
Start like a Turk, continue like a German and finish like an Englishman.
Crying out loud, why hasn't this channel got at least 100k subscribers? The quality and lengths this guy goes to is through the roof, genius! I could sit and watch him all day.
because he always laugh.
Give it time. Will get there.
it will in time
And I have watched all day 😂
@@iNireus There's nothing like watching someone do fantastic work, so satisfying.
Mind BLOWN at the amount of detail and effort involved in such a repair.
I do hope the customer appreciates the amount of work you put into repairing this amp.
But not the cost
The ultimate way to relax --------- just watch Mark , i am learning as well ----------- thank you Mark
I’ve never seen a repair video with a cliffhanger before. But Mark sure had me wanting to see how this ends! He manages to explain what he’s doing while being entertaining. It’s a joy to watch someone at work that is so passionate about what they do. So glad that I stumbled across this channel…now I’m addicted!
Mark is absolutely one in a million, I feel very humble seeing him/his work.
This man is a genius! Who would go that extra mile nowadays?! And ALWAYS with that smile! Mark deserves a lot more subscribers! Keep up the good work!
Magnificent job Mark, that's was a great watch ! Have to say, the last 10 minutes was beyond amazing, that was fantastic!! Oh, happy birthday Wilma :)
It's great to see someone who takes pride in his work, a great result for the end. Very nice work mark.
Amazing amazing amazing.
The last part where you made your own switch is truly an awesome ending of the story.
😊
At 12:23 there's a runaway Capacitor! Humor, Lol. Great video Mark! I appreciate you sharing your work. It helps me as an aspiring Amplifier Repairman!
This man is a perfectionist...vary rare in these times....Love your work...
Mark is an absolute Genius!
That 45 minutes went by in no time, totally absorbing, a true craftsman.
Found this channel by accident ASTOUNDING workmanship wish they were someone in my area like this thank you and subscribed.
Mark, what more can I write, now that I have already written to/about you, so many times, on this great and educational channel of yours...? Your litany of impressive skills are truly A-M-A-Z-I-N-G ! ! ! ! ! BTW fine sir; You happen to have the BEST electronics repair/refurbishment channel on RUclips (at least in my humble opinion)! Thank You so much for taking out the time to create these videos and sharing yourself with all of us. I understand that making videos is an entire job in and of itself... Also, please always keep on smiling like you always do Mr. Smiley ! ! ! Your pleasant demeanor, whilst repairing things, is wholly contagious. Thank You! Fred
did not see that he ripped off most of the pads?
hear hear
Marks a genius, his work is unbelievable, truly talented guy who always goes the extra mile.
It's a pleasure to see someone so meticulous at their work👏👏👏
Nice repair. I'd probably put the replacement knob on the least used switch, keep the wear and tear off it.
Moulding the knob was genius
This job looked like such a headache, yet Mark was full of confidence and expertly nailed all the faults, epic. Molding that new switch was very skillful and a real touch of class. Most repairmen wouldnt bother.
I've seen quite a few videos of hifi equipment repairers on RUclips but this is the first time I've seen someone remanufacture plastic buttons. Hats off.
Mark has a photographic memory l guess! Unfazed by all the parts removal! This is the best vid of repair work ever on utube! Top marks!
The replacement switch cover! Just above and beyond. 👍🏻 Another excellent vid, Mark. Thank you for posting.
that knob replacement is Jedi!
Over performing caps across the board can be a sign that they're starting to develop parallel resistance and leak DC, they appear to be higher values because they take longer to charge due to the parallel resistance taking some of the charge current the meter uses to measure the charge time. You should really also do a DC leakage test on them as well,
Genius! I could watch these excellent videos for 10 hours straight! Great entertainement value here Mr.Mark,
Finding someone like you to repair this stuff, so difficult these days, amazing attention to detail !
The led mod, ideally ,as its AC driven should have a diode in parallel,as the AC could exceed the reverse voltage of the led, usually around 5 volts. Love you vids. Thank you.
I love this channel. it's like comfort food.
That is pretty much a full restoration of that old hi-fi amp. That would not be a cheap repair job. Great work Mark!
Yay! Well done Mark, and happy birthday to Wilma x
please for every amplifier you repair, try to connect it with speakers so I can hear the sound quality, I'm waiting for that, thank you for your hard work love from indonesia 🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩
So much talent! I ran out of talent years ago... Excellent work Mark as always
I really like how you maintain electronic equipment, you make it look so easy.
Just as I thought the video was finished Mark goes and makes 3 moulded switches from scratch. Epic.
Another superb item saved from land-fill. This man is an utter repair rock star.
I’m gobsmacked, positively gormed! The joy of running some first class music through this piece at a good volume! Thanks again!
It's a beautiful machine, beautifully built, and richly deserving of a second life ! 😉
Hi,
Great As always... Especially the reconstruction of these switch handles. 👍😊👍
I used to have a Mark equivalent living over the road from me. Sad day when he moved away. The world needs more Marks!!
Fixing amps and restoring them are very different things. Restoring amps like Mark takes a large dollop of passion and experience, and the labor costs would realistically be a good proportion of the amp's overall value. It's worth every effort and will be appreciated by generations to come.
Very nice moulding of those knobs - seemingly no end to your talents!
Happy Birthday Wilma!
The machine seemed very well designed and made. Always enjoy the videos even though I have no idea what he’s doing most of the time lol
It’s like he is talking in a foreign language fluently! Genius and personable 😊
You are a Genius Engineer!!!, keep the videos coming!
I love that you don't just throw out the nice old caps - these are going to last longer than new ones maybe, when they have proven to be able to last for almost 50 years with no problems I would trust them more than new ones
Having watched hunders of hours of old computer repairs it always amazes me that there's rarely a need to replace the caps.
Love watching your videos. Thank you!
One word suffices here. Outstanding.
Поражает такой трепетный подход особенно изготовление и отливка этих ручек на селектор меня просто поразила! Браво Мастер! 👋👋👋👋👋
This bloke is better than most medical people and his bedside manner is jolly good! Cheers
I watched some guy that knew what he was doing bodge the shitnitze out of a laptop the other day, but Mark? What an artist! What a crafts man! I can't believe there are still people out there that absolutely care and love the stuff they do, but then Mark gives me hope. It's so nice to see him loved by the comments. As for his little chuckle, that's because he ain't afraid of getting stuck in to the mystery and pinpointing the problem. Just marvellous to watch. And the PRICE OF THE EQUIPMENT!!! OMFG!!!!
That really was epic.
I don't think I have ever seen such a hardcore repair as making a cover for that last switch! 😮
Many talents and much patience!
Hi Mark, Brilliant effort and once again attention to detail is absolutely amazing.
And a very happy birthday to Wilma.
Gordon, Halifax.
I just saw part one by luck last night. I couldn’t go to sleep until I finished watching it all. By the end of it. I was so sleepy I was wondering why I was watching Tony Soprano fixing a stereo amplifier.
You are one of the good ones mark. I can’t wait to see more of your channel.
You're a true artist, fella. Well done.
learn something in every film, thanks Mark.
Fantastic job as always Mark thanks for sharing your many talents 🦘
Great work, Mark!
I like that you don't just blindly replace caps; this has become too much of a disease among amateurs/dabblers (shows you're obviously not one of them). In fact, most of those pale blue Matsushita caps are of extremely high quality; it's just a small batch of them that leak and get corroded.
It's usually better to leave them in, because they were overbuilt (unlike modern ones that often are very near their tolerance limits).
I need to find Mark here in Australia. Bravo and talented.
Just incredible craftsmanship and a magnificent job. I can watch your videos nonstop. Great work, you're a Genius Mark.
Watching you work is an absolute joy and when those switches demoulded I WOL'd - Wow'd out loud 😄
Mark, I am a fan! I can't repear anything but I watch your channel! Such a nice guy! 😎🙂
MARK IS A LEGEND GREAT JOB WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Your motivation inspires, and your ability.
High there Mark, l been watching your youtube channel from day one and what you do is amazingly inspiring to watch. I love how you can resolve most issues if not all of them. Keep up the good work.
You're not from this world Mark... that was amazing.
love it very clever idea casting your own selector knobs i bet the owner is pleased
Feels so satisfying watching you clean and solder the components back in.
Very Thorough, a very patient and sometimes innovative and knowledgable Engineer . I would gladly give my systems for service and repair. However I stay in Bangalore, India.
I enjoy Mark's videos because so much of the equipment he has has been on my lab bench at one time or another. I especially miss the old HP stuff. Especially the HP 200 tube type oscillator.
Doing mostly SMD and IC repairs these days but I came up on discreet components. We're a dying breed and it's great to see you repairing them. You've got all the gear as well. Repair seemed bog standard but you went into beast mode on the cleaning. Well done, lad.
Best of British. Great job Mark.
Mark never stops wowing the audiences.
Brilliant as always, thanks Mark
Great work I cant believe how much work is in that 👍👍👍👍
It’s always amazed me every time I watched you doing your skills it is like learning a lesson from an electronics classes, but way more detailed. Loved every minute I am glued watching.
Mark Love Your Videos Shame You Dont Put One a Week I am 71 And Probably Your Greatest Fan All The Best To You And All Your Famiily
Just incredible stuff, such a joy to watch, keep mending mark 😁
The most amazing tech ever !
Absolutely Amazing. Mark is a one of a kind guy in the age of throw it away and buy new.
Hi Mark Got to say the moulding was impressive and looked pretty good once painted I can say I feared it would be pretty messy. Subscribed today it was good to see you bring that Amp back to life and it deserved it great Amp back in the day. Good work all the best Sean
Your craftsmanship knows no bounds. That was above and beyond, even for you.l
Great video - so interesting to see your ideas for fabricating missing parts. I really wanted you to fit a longer (and double insulated) mains lead though 😊
Man, you are a inexhaustible source of knowledge. A pleasure to see your videos
Mark is a foundry man.
Hey mark, wow you put a hell of alot of work into that. Hope who ever you repaired it for, paid you well.
Once again, a brilliant job. Nothing seems beyond Mark's ken, least of all the fabrication of switch covers. Brother, you are one of a kind!
C'est tout simplement passionnant, et très agréable à suivre même pour un français qui ne parle pas très bien votre langue. Merci pour votre joie de vivre !
You might find the LED on/off light goes. LED's have a low reverse V, a rectifier diode in reverse parallel is a good idea. thanks for another entertaining video.
Love the stuff you do, always look forward to the next project, keep it up Mark , excellent as usual
Best electronics repair shop in the world, no one is doing that kind of service.
Quite ingenious with those knobs, amazing.
What a joy to see this work done professionally rather than change all the components just for the sake of it. Nice one Mark, you always go the extra mile!
