- Nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, "The Square" just won the Goya Award for Best European Film, the lion's share of U.S. Critics' awards in the category, and the Palme D'Or. "The Square" stars Claes Bang as Christian, the respected chief curator of a prestigious contemporary art museum. His next show is "The Square", an installation which invites passersby to altruism, reminding them of their role as responsible fellow human beings. But sometimes, it is difficult to live up to your own ideals: Christian's foolish response to the theft of his phone drags him into shameful situations. Meanwhile, the museum's PR agency has created an unexpected campaign for "The Square." The response is overblown and sends Christian, as well as the museum, into an existential crisis. Join BUILD as we sit down with director Ruben Östlund to discuss the film.

The director doing a excellent job for explaining and talk about the film he made, it's a rare to see.
Thankyou for making your films Ruben
I just saw the square. I have discovered another favorite director.
This interview is like watching another movie... 🖤🖤🖤🖤
I've seen it yesterday and it's one of my favourites already.
Great movie - loved it. Made me think and realize dualities I live in Western society
Palm D'or is the highest successful for this movie... It was already briliant when the movie won. And the host mention about nominating Oscar despite the winning in Cannes? The heck?
Look up the channel platform produktion on youtube
Yanks
Amazing interviewer, insightful questions, let the director talk.
Its a fantastic film.
Anxiety is the logical response to our world....
Very good interview and Östlund seems very intelligent and well spoken. I'm Finnish and I just can't stand domestic films, Swedish are much better in film making.
excellent movie
Hey Ruben Ostlund - I love RUclips too! Heehee
This great interview should come with a major spoiler warning
Haha a 40 Minutes Interview with the filmmaker talking about his film needs a spoiler warning? Made me laugh
@@antoniusblock3316 Ha, fair call!
He wasn’t a cab driver, the guy was there for a job interview
The people who lets the voltages rip in that experiment and the people who don't aren't 'the good people' and 'the bad people'.
The people who lets the voltages rip are the people who doesn't really understand what it means to do so, and the people that do.
People are not good or bad - that shit is from "The Lord of the Rings"...
Pretty much everybody are trying to be as good a person as they can, and pretty much everybody regularly fail horribly at this.
The idea that there is this clean divide between 'the good people' and 'the bad people' is just childishly ridiculous.
If you really believe that's how it is I think you'd have to be actively trying not to see anything but that comfortably neat, tidy and naïve view..
Grow up?

There are points I did not understand:
He mentioned that he is the person who created the theme, when I believe it was created by the artistry of Lola Arias!
Upon answering why the movie is located in a museum, Ruben says that it is because he was invited to show the film in a museum (?). How come? The film was already done. I don't get him.
he was invited to the museum for the actual square thing, not the film, if I understand correctly.
No. Lola Arias had nothing to do with it, Ruben used her name but the piece is fictional.
Tayyab Mahmood he came up with the square before he made the film

Excuse me, but the Oscar goes to A FANTASTIC WOMAN FROM CHILE!!! 👏 👏 👏 🎉 🎉 🎉
