The ponytail technique is excellent. I broke my elbow a month ago. Amazon has been great. I got a one-handed can opener, a one handed jar opener, and a button hook. I also got a pair of kitchen shears because I also found I couldn’t cut things like toast with a knife, but I could use scissors instead. Doing my hair is still hard. I can’t even close a barrette one-handed.
Came up with a sleeve idea that works for those that are $$$ challenged , or flat out resent buying a long piece of plastic for $15-20. Use a loaf of bread wrapper and a rubber band. It works for me. I cut 3 very slight slits on the end to stick my fingers through.
I have a wrist operation coming up in September and it’s my dominant hand, so I’ve been really nervous about how I’m going to deal with doing my hair/make up/showering etc. These hacks are soo useful, thank you so much (you don’t even think about things like using soap in pump bottles etc!) and has made me feel more positive about my operation. Hope you are all healed now, and thanks again! Xx
Thank you for the tips. They are really useful. I’m finding it doubly difficult because it’s my right arm that’s in a cast. My left thumb is painful too, so learning to use the dictate function on my phone has been a godsend. thank you again
Thank you Anne - I really feel for you with your right arm in a cast and sore left thumb too 🤕 hope you get well soon and I’m glad the tips are helping! Great idea re. Dictation too!!! X
Thank you for the tips, and i hope you've healed nicely! I also broke my wrist and had to have the same surgery. I find side ponytails and buns to be pretty easy to maneuver, along with using a small clip or two to just get some hair out of my face!
I broke wrist, my splint comes 1\2 way down my fingers so I can’t spread fingers at all or touch thumb to any finger. Between fingers started stinkin like feet.lol. So I use Q tips dipped in hand sanitizer to get in those tight spots , then a Q tip dipped in lavender body spray just cuz it smells nice. My tip for opening bottles.. which is impossible , when you buy it, ask the cashier to “please crack these open for me”. I only got pleasant helpful reactions. 😀. As for opening things like peanut butter… flip a rubber backed rug , set the peanut butter or whatever upside down on the rug. & push down n turn. I live alone and I’m still struggling w the hair thing, arrrgghh.
Thank you for the tips, they will be very helpful. I hope you heel quickly and with not too much pain. (Although it does hurt, doesn’t it? Yeah, me too.)
Thankyou for the tips,I've just broken my left arm in 2 places upper humerus. I prefer my hair up as its dry and frizzy.Ive tried a few things with no success. I will try this. Hoping you and your family are well..
I fractured my humerus also - about 4 wks ago. I've found that hair clips (the kind with teeth) can be used one-handed. Similar process. Gather all your hair together, twist and then cover the twist/bun with the clip. Good luck to you in healing!
Thank you so much, some very useful ideas, will be ordering the shower sleeve and phone holder - have dropped it so many times 😆 I broke my wrist 4 days ago so, probably be at least a couple of months in a cast, maybe operation soon, and need all the tips I can get 😀 Any ideas for opening tins or peeling veg?
I slipped on ice 2 days ago & broke my left arm (first ever broken bone) luckily I’m right handed. During the Plague, everywhere was closed including the laundrette & gym where I showered I live alone in a motor home, with no shower & I’m considering not showering for 6 wks - opting to flannel wash as I did during the above period 👀 I also have a dog & luckily she can be let off the lead for about 80% of the walk as I’m quite close to woodland walks - don’t won’t any sudden jolts, do we 😱 God help me if it’d been my right hand that had been broken - thinking of toilet routine’s 😱 although I’m sure I would of found a way to use my left hand 🤪
It's crazy how when you have an injury you suddenly have to buy a bunch of stuff to adapt to do normal ADLs. I'm in that boat right now. But Amazon is a godsend.
I fractured my humerus about 4 wks ago. Fortunately, my non-dominant arm. After showering, I used my good arm to flip the towel over my shoulder. I hold the tip with the fingers of the injured arm and use the good arm to move the towel up and down. You can also move up and down a wall once the towel is behind you.
@@staciabelove6097I’m six days post humerus fracture and haven’t showered yet. Honestly I haven’t even removed the tshirt they cut off my left arm in the ER. Did you just remove the brace and splint and hold your arm VERY carefully against you to shower? I’m not supposed to put my arm through a sleeve of any kind. I’ve been in so much pain I haven’t cared much but I think I’ve reached my limit! I MUST get clean and figure out what to do for a top.
I broke my humerus bone and can't use my hand. How are you able to button and zip your pants up with one hand? I have not been able to do that since I broke my arm.
Sorry to hear that, I hope you heal quickly. Before you put them on, you could try and loop an elastic band / small hair band through the button hole, through itself and then hook it over the button. At least that would keep the pants together whilst you pull them on and then pull the zipper up. Hope that helps. Good luck!
When will you have your cast removed? I was in a cast too. I broke my wrist and thumb playing soccer. I had my third cast removed months ago. Have a full and speedy recovery. Have a wonderful day.
Oh, wrist and thumb?! Ouch 😣! I actually didn’t have a cast fitted when I went back to the fracture clinic. The consultant said that because I had a metal plate fitted surgically they prefer to get the wrist moving. I just have a removable splint on at the moment. I hope you have recovered well and thank you so much for watching 😊!
I broke my upper humerus, just below the shoulder. I’m in a sling & swathe, which means my arm is immobilized against my body. As intended, it’s very restrictive. 😭
*Women are naturally wrist flexible in one hand hair twisting.......as I am just getting more and more pissed off with these fingerbanging manipulation hair tying!!!!*
I needed this video three weeks ago. Thank you for posting.

Pizza cutter to cut bread.....excellent idea.
I didn’t know about the arm cover ! I’ve been using a trash bag so it’s been difficult to wash that upper arm
Do you have any hacks for taking care of small children with one arm? Diaper changing, getting dressed, doing hair, car seat, etc.?

I injured my wrist a few days ago, had surgery yesterday. I hope your hacks will help me too.
Thank you so much for watching. I hope you are healing well and not in too much pain!
Good tips I was hoping for one on how to dry the back after Showering
