    Great video, very helpful too.
    Had to do this myself a couple of years back on my shared drain (I'm 3rd house of 4 on this system), with the help of two neighbours and 29 rods!!!
    The problem was caused not by grease, but by baby wipes that had clogged up a non-return valve in next door's (4th house) inspection chamber.
    Took us 5 hours and had to manually scoop out about 500 litres of Shoite which had been building up for some weeks.
    Things were further complicated by next door's inspection cover being helpfully buried under the patio by the previous owner !!
    The satisfaction of seeing the drain running freely again, knowing that we'd sorted it out ourselves was huge!
    Thanks for sharing!

    I had long term renters do this to one of my places one time. They also cooked greasy bacon on the stove and splatter, smell of grease, and slimy mess was everywhere. It was in the walls and the cieling. I ended up having to scrap the hvac because of it. It was truly terrible. Hate to see what their insides look like.
    I installed a t myself and cleaned out the drain for under 100 bucks after roto rooter came out and first said it was a broken pipe and would cost 2k and maybe more, then it went to clogged pipe and 1k dollars, then I told him where exactly the drain was and where you could dig 4 inches and get to it and it went to 300ish. I told him to walk anyhow.

      That is a nasty poopy mess digging a pipe out without breaking it, digging out under it too so to cut it open to sesect new pipe with couplers, they have poop backed uo behind the clog always, which floods the hole you have to work in! shop vac the sewer water out you still have poopy ass mud you need to bleach them blast with water hose and shop vac or trash pump out, depending on how you cut the pipe, you need to rent a chain cutter or sawzall etc there can be illnesses or injuries too that will cost you as homeowner! then there is city code and inspection!

      themorphman100 lol same here, we ended up helping a friend who cain't work due to his poor health. We tried to unclog it but it was no use, so we cut the pvc pipe and found alot of grease. Bought a new one(other was ugly and very old), installed it and refilled the hole and planted some plants/vegetables so it wouldn't look as ugly 😁 The only thing that pissed me off was one shit neighbor complaning of the smell and having no sympathy for the friend we helped.

      I always offered the customer an option on digging it themselves, t&m to cut the pipe and install a cleanout, then snake if needed..1st one i ever did the customers had 4 sons..i explained i need to be able to get in and work also..they did a great job..i cut out a 10foot section of cast iron, and from there i pulled the 6 or so pieces of 1x2x8's they shoved inside it trying to unclog their pipe themselves...
      Had they called with the clog before opening the cleanout in the basement i could have snaked the line for under $200, back then..but it all worked out nice..

    Grease.... soap scale.. vegetable matter (leaves etc) and material like baby wipes etc....
    I'd also say that there's a very shallow "fall" on these runs

    There are special hoses with a nozzle , you hook the hose on a pressure washer , turn it on ,push the hose ( semirigid) in the blocked pipe , the water pressure uncloggs and clean the drain at the same time .

    Is it good to twist the rods? I'm afraid that the head attachments might loosen and get lost in the pipes causing more problems! Thanks for your advice and the great video ( at least I know it can be done )
    I'm conerned that the pipe to the road ( going under the garden and joining a main manhole in neighbours house ( complicated situation ) is dropping / leaning towards our house which is causing the issue ( exactly like this video )

    Here's an idea that I do every month. Get the biggest pot you have in the house. Fill it up almost full of water. Boil the water. Put some DAWN dish washing liquid into the boiled water. You could also use a degreaser type of cleaner, but make sure to follow the instructions for use. Pour the boiled water down the drain along with the Dawn or degreasing liquid. If you are not satisfied with the results, repeat. You may have to do the same in other drains within the house until you are satisfied. If you live in an apartment, doing this monthly, or bi - monthly, will keep maintenance from intruding into your apartment unexpectedly.

    • @spencerwilton5831
      @spencerwilton5831 6 лет назад +1

      Samuel Chappell or just don't put fat down the drain. Have never had a blockage at my family home, and it's been owned by us for half a century.

    • @samuelchappell7280
      @samuelchappell7280 6 лет назад

      @@spencerwilton5831 You mean grease as in frying hamburger meat in order to cook some spaghetti sauce. I have been doing the boiling water and dawn trick for as long as I can remember, and regardless where I have lived, at no point did my pipes clog up. NOT ONCE. YOU CAN TAKE THAT TO THE BANK.

    • @spencerwilton5831
      @spencerwilton5831 6 лет назад +1

      Samuel Chappell Do your research. Google "fatberg". Putting oil or fat (or grease, as Americans like to call it) down the drain is a no no. Even if it doesn't cause problems in your own drains, it causes huge issues further down the sewer system. Accumulations of fat and other debris weighing 250 tons and more have been found in major sewers under London, and just this week in Southampton. The cost of removing these is astronomical, and is of course passed on to all of us through higher water bills. Then there is the environmental cost of using excess detergent which ends up in rivers etc as it cannot be removed by sewage treatment, plus the environmental cost of heating water to flush your waste down the drain, plus the waste of water during this entirely unnecessary procedure. Water companies have been telling us for years, fat doesn't belong in drains. Just tip it into a container then bin it, or better still if you have food waste collections where you are, addd it to a small pot by the sink, let it set, and once full scrape it into the food waste bin. From there it will go to produce biogas for heating and power generation, and end up as compost for agriculture. Just because you have been doing something for decades doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

    The fact the first man hole was sitting above the channel with water says its also blocked further down the line or the drain is badly laid. Been to many jobs and the customer says "oh i lost some rods down there as well" .

    SIMPLE CLEAN THROW ACID THEN HOT WATER WALA

    • @peteb2
      @peteb2 6 лет назад +11

      OK until the acid rots out a sealing ring at a junction in a wall cavity. Plumber told me that a men's urinal in a pub kept blocking up but owners just used acid. Eventually the seal began leaking piss out into the wall cavity. It went on for about two months until there was a terrible smell. He was called in to check. The wall had a bulge around the urinal. This was a warning. To check he drilled a very small hole but the wall was so rotten it fell down, 2 months worth of men's piss flooded out everywhere...

      peteb2 That will happen with just about any leak inside of a wall. Closest I got to your experience is hunting water leaks in walls and I got real good at it, usually getting a squirt in the eyes once when I estimated the leak perfectly at about 7’ above floor level stand on a ladder! Poked my finger where I thought the leak would be and get the leak right in the eye. Quickly got a towel on it with my other hand and leak repaired within 5 mins. Wall dry out and repair was another 4 days!

    I was going to say like Mundocious commented about Cholesterol but I was thinking does it rain grease there? Cause even the downspout had grease? Those are really cool drains btw...they look like they'll last and the catch basin with the grooves...

    People need to understand when you wash pots and pans make sure you don't have grease on it so it will not go on your drained pipes that's how you clogged up sewers

      Just because it's in your garden doesn't mean you're the only one that uses it, all of the shit in my street travels right under my garden so on the two occasions (in 15 years thankfully) that my drain has blocked local council workers were there within the hour with their bendy pipes and vacuum truck.
