I’m in this situation and I’m so nervous to do this alone. Thanks for sharing your experience
This was so cool it wasn’t boring at all! You did a great job of keeping us engaged! I wish you would’ve stopped and got food at a restaurant in Texas lol
Thank you so much! And you’re right, I should have stopped and gotten some BBQ or something haha
Solo trips are so therapeutic!!!😊
My wife and daughter did it 1,600 miles. Each of us driving a vehicle with me in the big 26' and my co-pilot cat. We still talk about the adventure it was.
This is so inspiring. Leaving my hometown Charlotte, NC In October for Jacksonville , FL. Thank you for sharing this journey with us 🖤
I live in Charlotte NC born and raised on my way to Texas at the end of March
Thank you for watching and good luck with your move!!
I want to rent a uhaul from North Carolina and drive down to Maryland and get my stuffs out the storage and come back down to North Carolina,I tried to get it from Maryland and return the truck to a destination here in NC but it's way so expensive , Someone actually told me to just get it from here, drive to MD and let u haul charge me later on based on the miles I used. What. Do u suggest ???
Great job! I made this same journey about 3 weeks ago, The only difference is I drove from Phoenix to right outside of Nashville. I also stopped in Elk City! I remember being blown away by all the windmills near Amarillo Texas and of course the vast expanse of nothingness through New Mexico and Arizona. Memorable trip.

@@lamerveille9186 renting a truck or van to drive over a long distance is going to cost quite a bit. Rent it from MD and drop it off in NC, make sure you have enough insurance on it because anything can happen on a long trip.
@@ChrisBanda Upon checking getting it from one location and dropping it at another location actually is way too expensive, than getting it from one location and dropping it back at the same location, I guess that's what I'll do.. Just pay my the miles
I loved every minute of it. Thank you for posting this. This is actually going help me a lot.
Thanks for watching! 😁
I’m actually moving from Las Vegas to Greensboro so this is cool to see someone doing the opposite trip I’ll be making. Good luck on your journey. Prepare for the heat
Thanks for watching and good luck with your move! 😁
Greensboro is nice. I went there a few times when I was in high school and enjoyed it a lot
I’m moving to Greensboro next week
How much did it cost?
Hii! I am about to do Vegas to Dallas, How was your experience exiting Vegas with all those hills, its whats scaring me the most
My Son and I did this last week. From San Antonio to Dallas to Phoenix. I drove the Uhaul towing his car and he followed behind me driving his girlfriend's car. Three days total but totally worth it. Amazing views!
This videos reminds me of moving from South Carolina to Indiana with 4 dogs and 4 cats in tow. And yes, people definitely overestimate how fun it will be moving out of statw will be 😂. Your main focus is getting where you are heading.
How did your cats do? We’re moving from SE Texas to Chattanooga with 4 cats and 4 birds 😖
@@deadanna they were a little upset but did fine. I'll be moving again in April to Oklahoma.
My wife and I are leaving Boston and heading to Houston in a couple of days and this has really helped out. Glad to know you were safe !
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching
Holy cow, my wife and I are also moving to Texas, Austin from NYC similar route
Exactly the video I was looking for; Making the move from Wisconsin to Oklahoma here, same size truck, also carrying a car. Thank you!
Thanks for watching and good luck with your move!
Getting ready to travel 1200 miles myself just like this. Thanks for sharing your journey. Making me excited for this new journey
Thanks for watching! Best of luck with your move
I really enjoyed watching your video. I am currently in the process of moving from Pennsylvania to New Mexico and you literally addressed the same worries I had but pushed through like a champ 🙌🏼 Thank you for giving me the motivation I needed.
Thank you so much! Good luck with your move!!
I'm moving from Texas to PA! Next week
Thank you for sharing this, man. Wonderful video. Gives me more faith that I can successfully do something similar very soon 💪🏾
Thanks for watching and good luck with your move!
I was a truck driver for 5 years the overnight parking situation really creates some bad problems. Sometimes forces people to drive tired when you literally can’t stop
Agreed, I really did not expect it to be so hard to find overnight parking.
Loved ever second of this. I was cheering when you saw the lights of Vegas. Live your dreams!
Thanks so much!!
Great riding along with you Grant . Enjoyed the video it was great , most of all you made it to Vegas safe. God Bless you, and good luck on your future endevours.
Thank you so much!!
So good! Thank you for sharing, I’m about to make a similar drive and this helped out a lot 🙏🏾
Thanks for watching and good luck with your drive!
This was so relaxing to watch ✨ thanks for sharing your journey!
Glad you enjoyed!
Glad you made it buddy and so glad you were blessed and watched over on your journey!
Thanks so much!
Thank you for the video man. Good information, and engaging all the way.
Thanks for watching!!
Earlier in the video you talked about the numerous new C8 Corvettes you've seen on your journey. Lo and behold...one shows up 12:40 in. 😃
Haha! I must've seen over 100 of them along the way
Can’t wait to see future content!!
Great video! Super excited to do this in a few months❤
Thank you! Good luck with your move!
Amazing video I smiled 😊 the whole time… loved every minute of the video. I was so happy when you made it to Vegas
Thanks so much!!
Insane content love this
I made a road trip to vegas once, I drove 3 or 4 days, and dropped into vegas on that same interstate you were on at night as well. The view is STUNNING after so many hours of dark desert.
Awesome video man it really puts everything into perspective. I’m doing the complete opposite drive right now (Phoenix to Connecticut) but funny enough, this morning I filled up at the exact same gas station in Arkansas as you did at 12:38 in the video.
I work for U-Haul, glad you made it safe! I hope you were satisficed with your U-Haul experience! Great video, enjoyed it
I was, and thank you so much!
I'm about to do this solo with my dog from Utah to Colorado. Any advice for going over the mountain? Should I take i70 or i 80??
15ft with auto carrier.
Don't be afraid to stay in the slow lane, especially heading up the mountains you'll be slower than the rest of traffic. Coming down, just feather the brakes and you'll be fine, the engine does a lot of the braking for you. I'm not familiar with the differences of those highways but you should be fine with either :)
I may be making a similar move real soon ta ta east coast!!!! Thanks for the video!!
Thanks for watching! and good luck with your move 😁😁
Good stuff man. Reminds when I make the drive between Chicago and Denver. Looking at fields most of the trip. I rent a fuel efficient car though and do it in about 15 hours. Safe travels!
This was enjoyable. Great job
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
This is amazing! Thank you. I am quite literally about to do the same drive / move from Charlotte to Las Vegas and am strongly considering towing my car with a UHaul. I’ll be alone. Your video is so so helpful. Thank you!
Thanks for watching and good luck with your move! Will be the exact same route haha
Once you got into the Kingman area i pointed at the screen like a child being like "ooh i know that place!"
Grrat video
Good job … and you did it alone!
Thank you for sharing this, doing the same thing with the UHAUL, I am moving from from Myrtle Beach South Carolina to Nashville Tennessee
Thanks for watching!! Good luck with your move!
i remember helping my sister move back to Oklahoma for her extended Christmas break from nursing school, went from Roanoke VA to OKC and other than Arkansas being flat as hell it was really fun I loved seeing all the mountains again in VA and Tennessee cause we don't really have those here in OK
Going from green to a desert must have been a huge change in scenery
Great video man hope you like Vegas
Thanks so much, i'm loving Vegas so far!
This was so fun to watch. I'll be relocating to Vegas from Dallas in 7 weeks and was quite nervous about driving. It's my first long road trip and first time NOT hiring movers. I've moved cross country three times. This should be interesting. Looking forward to the scenery though 🙂
You're driving alone ?
Thanks for watching and good luck with your move!!
Best of luck🙏🏿👏🏿

Thank you for sharing your journey with us!
I'm going on a life changing move myself soon, and this video of yours answered some questions for me!
Like, how exactly do you pull into a gas station when you're driving a U-Haul pulling a car trailer? So, thank you again!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and good luck with your move!!
From Delaware to Houston soon!!! I figured I’d save more money driving it ourselves and having movers pack the truck from the 3rd floor
Thats the way to do it! Good luck with your move!
Thanks, have to do a very similar move in two months with the same set😊
Thanks for watching and good luck with your move!
I’m moving from Michigan to Houston Texas with the same U-Haul and add on this year!!
great video!
Thank you!
I enjoyed your video. Your apartment you moved out of was REALLY nice.
Thank you!!
Nice editing on this video. Also "low key wana find a rattle snake"? Lol you wild my dude 😂
Hahah thank you!!
Omg great job on the drive. I currently live in Texas and will be relocating to the Bay Area in a few months. I would def take a drive there if I wasn’t making the move alone. But I’ll be hiring a moving company and flying there. I love how you said you were scared at the beginning of the video. Love the transparency. 😊 good luck on everything. Let me know if you need a traveling buddy on your next adventure 😅…no really 👀
Thank you so much!
Which company did you hire for moving? I couldn't find a good one. They either break your stuff or lose it. I'm terrified. Please give me some advice. Thank you
Very good video i enjoy watching it
Thank you very much
Omg I live in Wilmington nc and I’m moving to vegas in august… can’t wait
Good luck with your move! Vegas is awesome

I enjoyed this! I just drove a 20 foot U-Haul towing my car and all my possessions from Illinois to New Mexico with my pregnant fiancé. It was quite the adventure but worth it. All the best!
Thanks for watching and glad to hear your journey went well!!
Very nice apartment ❤️
Great job, thanks for posting. I'm moving from Los Angeles to Atlanta in a 26 footer with a car trailer attached. When you slept at truck stops, did you ever have to back up to exit?
Thanks! And yes, I had to reverse with the trailer a few times but it was easier to make the trailer go in the direction I wanted it to than I expected. Best of luck with your move!
Thank you for making this video! I'm planning to move from Seattle, WA down to Ventura, CA in a few months. Did you have to stop at weigh stations?
Thanks for watching! I didn't stop at any weigh stations- don't think my load was heavy enough for me to be required to.
Informative and entertaining. Would be interested to know how much you spent on gas for your trip.
Thank you! Gas costed me a little over $1,200 for the whole trip
Very good information, I'll be making a similar drive soon while towing. Not sure jf you still aee comments on your video but di you remember approx how many miles per day you drove? But more importantly did you just use Waze? Only thing I saw with theae trucks (in Northeast at least) is the restrictions of driving them on parkways (CT & NYC area) so looking for ways to avoid that. Thanks in advance
It was over 500 miles per day. And I just used apple maps!
Thanks. I'm about to do the exact same thing except I'm a female. Gonna drive alone towing and sleep at stops. All for the same reasons you gave.
Thanks for watching and good luck with your move!!
Hello, can you please tell me your experience? Im a female as well. I'm thinking drive uhual from sf to NJ. I'm really worrying. How did you rest during evening? Please give me some advice. I really need some help. Thank you
Great video, really eased my mind a lot. I'm doing the same move from NC to Las Vegas on the same route in a 16 ft with car tow. Did they provide the car straps or did you have to get your own and any recommendations ?
Thank you!! The trailer has straps for attaching the car, but they will make you tie it down by yourself so that they are not liable if it's done incorrectly. I followed a RUclips tutorial to show me where to attach the straps and how to make sure the car was secure. Good luck with your move to Vegas!
I’ll be making my move this week from Florida to Texas and this video got me super excited and nervous. Lol.
Hope everything went well!!
Made it safe on Friday and it was an awesome experience.
@@francinealmestica2528do you mind if I ask how did you rest during the night while keeping your uhaul safe please ? I want to move from sf to nj with my mom. We are both woman. I'm really scared and nervous.
driving from vegas to texas man so this def was a good video to see lol
Thanks for watching and good luck with your drive!
I move from Minnesota to Ohio and got a uhaul and i tow my 02 f150 lol. And now Im moving back to Minnesota by the end of March of 2024!
Awesome video dude. My only question is why did you leave the brights on?
Thanks! And it wasn’t intentionally haha- didn’t realize I had them on because they were so dim
@@GrantClouser I hear you man, I went cross country in a 15ft uhaul last month but thankfully I had practice with my 03 durangos bad lights
Great video. Did you disconnect the trailer while loading and then reconnect afterwords?
Thanks! I loaded the truck then connected the trailer after, and then returned the trailer to uhaul a day before the truck so I could unload without it getting in the way.
Great adventure!!! I am moving from Virginia Beach to LA, wondering the cost of gas?????
Thanks for watching! Total gas cost was about $1210
I took the same route 2 years ago in July. From San Diego to Nashville. Opposite way and after the trip, I wanted to do it again. Glad you made it safe
It's a beautiful drive. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for sharing? I'm moving to another city in a few months- did you have to avoid tunnels along the way?
Thanks for watching! I don't recall having to go through any, but the uhauls aren't as tall as a tractor trailer- you shouldn't have to worry about tunnels.
Phoenix to Boise starting tomorrow morning!!
Best of luck!!
Cool video. You said the same thing i did. The turning radius in gas stations is such shit. So annoying. They should make them diesel engines so you can go to truck stops and fuel up. Plenty of space in truck stops. Got myself in a jam having to back out of a hotel because people were not parked in proper parking spaces when i woke up. Nightmare sweating bullets lol. Don't do what i did.
Thanks for watching! And yea they definitely should
I hope you used a spotter. Don't try backing up on your own. Not worth the risk, or insurance issues.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm moving from Northern Missouri to Arizona and super nervous driving a 15ft with an Acura suv attached. How were the turns? I'm a good driver but nervous about not turning wide enough.
On the highway it is much easier to drive with the trailer than you're probably expecting. Off the highway just take your turns really wide, and try not to get yourself stuck in a tight gas station or somewhere where you will need to reverse because that can be tricky. Thanks for watching and good luck with your move!!
How did you get over the Rockies with that setup? Same suv and truck as you. I have a stop in Denver and Durango. I’m worried about the weather.
@@JetsMakeWoosh We're delaying our move until March or whenever it stops snowing. I'm taking the Kansas expressway then taking the 40 to Arizona. I'm originally from L.A. so I'm most definitely not used to driving in mountains let alone the Rockies. I'm too chicken for that lol
Fell sorry for you, must've been a hell! I did the exact same thing but drove only about 880 miles, took me forever, had to get off the highway every 95 miles to fill up the gas, never again!!!
This was a fun watch! I plan on doing something similar, but the opposite way. Outta curiosity, what was the cost breakdown for your move?
It cost just over $1,500 for the one way rental of both the truck and trailer. And gas costs were just over $1,200 for the whole trip. Good luck with your move and let me know if you have any other questions!
How do you feel about the nature difference between NV and NC after being there a year? I'm a desert native looking to move toward green parts soon.
The desert is beautiful in its own way but I much prefer the greenery and forests of the east coast
Thanks for the helpful video! I’m planning to tow my car with a U-Haul truck from Michigan to Colorado. Any idea what the fuel economy was with your trip?
If i'm remembering correctly, I was getting between 12-15mpg.
Hi! Really great video! Watched from start to finish (I don't usually do that so you managed to impress me) and I am wondering some small questions. Was wondering, that was a 20' truck? Do you know if it was a 450 or 550 engine? Getting gas never seemed to be a problem for you? Was there ever a time you got stuck getting gas? Or was it always relatively easy? I've towed some big things before, but never for an extended distance. I never had to gas up or park overnight with a trailer of any kind attached. It's got me a little nervous. You managed to relax me some. I'll only be doing it in a 10 foot truck hauling a vehicle, but I am nervous about going through metro Vancouver in my case, onto a ferry, and then into Victoria. Both are crowded urban centers, with people who drive really fast. Was the truck smooth? Like an extension of your own body after a while?
Thank you so much! Yes, this was a 20 footer. I'm sorry, i'm not sure which engine this one had. Fortunately I didn't run into any issues getting gas- I made sure to stick to the large stations right off the highway whenever possible; most are designed for trucks and trailers. There were one or two times where I was a bit stuck and had to reverse and do some navigating to get myself out of spots but the trailer generally goes the direction you want it to go- it was easier than I expected. Driving in heavy traffic was manageable, I just stayed in the slow lane. I wouldn't say the truck was smooth by any means, but I definitely got used to driving it after the first day and a few gas stops. Good luck with your move and let me know if you have any other questions!
Epic
Bro would you please turn your high beams off
I didn't realize they were on 😭
About to make the haul from Alabama to Seattle!
Good luck!!
How was driving the truck with the trailer attached? I will need to tow my car when I drive, I have never done it before and am a little nervous about it. ANy tips for a 1st-time trailer tower?
It was much easier than expected! Just be careful when pulling into tight gas stations or parking lots, as reversing can be quite tricky, look for places you can pull in and out without backing up.
Moving from springfield mo to raleigh nc soon. Somehow gotta figure out how to get all 3 of my cars over there. Guess I'll be towing one of them, might have to sell one before the move. Kind of afraid to drive the uhaul towing a corvette through the mountains in the middle of winter! Also lots of people in the comments mentioning they are leaving nc makes me concerned with my choice of raleigh lol
I would look into shipping them- you can probably get a pretty good rate if you’re shipping 3 cars at a time. And don’t worry about Raleigh, it’s a nice area!
Relocating from Georgia to Wyoming tomorrow!
Hope everything went smoothly!
@@GrantClouser It did. Thanks for checking in.
hey -the max prescribed speed limit is 55 mph with the auto trolley trailer on the back of the truck. how was your experience getting used to the truck and the trailer with obvious blind spots while leaving and merging on the freeways?
i have a long road trip planned with a 15 feet or 20 feet Uhaul truck and my car being towed in the auto trolley behind so any guidance would be useful
There is a huge mirror with a lower fisheye mirror which actually gives you a good perspective of if someone is in your lane. It was much easier to merge than I was expecting!
Best of luck with your move and let me know if you have any questions!
Whats the maximum speed you went with the trailer? I'm towing mine across country aswell and noticed they recommend going 55mph at the max. I feel like this would be impossible in 70mph zones.
I went around 55-65 MPH for most of the drive. Anything over 75 felt really sketchy. A lot of the higher speed limit states, even the trucks would pass me, but better to go slower and be safe. Good luck with your move!
@@GrantClouser Thank you so much for the advice! I definitely agree that going slower and feeling safe will be much better than something bad happening. We'll see how it goes, thanks!
Thanks for video. I am a female, and drove my SUV by myself from Ohio to Houston, and did RT to Houston to Ohio. Soon I will be returning back to Ohio permanently, and debating whether to rent Penske cargo van or using PODS to transport household items. I dread paying almost $3000 to use PODS considering I do not have much to move...that is why I am considering driving myself, but I have never driven a cargo van. If someone out there has driven a cargo van, and can give me some info on how difficult it is to drive, please share. My other concern is the weather (floods a lot in Texas).. nervous about not knowing how the weather be should I decide to drive...hate highway driving if raining hard. So much to think about. Other than that, I love a good road trip, but it is more enjoyable if not having to do solo.
I definitely don't drive during nighttime...I always shutdown before dark.
You guys are so brave. I am a women and dread having to end up taking a 20+ hour trip alone 😭
Thanks for watching! Which did you decide on?
A cargo van? Like a 2500 or 3500 engine? No problem at all. It's really not very different from a regular car. I usually park mine further out in parking lots as they're a bit long like a limousine, and you'll have to make like 5 or 6 point turns if you get in too tight. And if you don't use your mirrors, you absolutely have to in a cargo van. No more shoulder checks.
Wow, your amazing courageous young man, many blessings to you 🙏. Video was so cool to watch.
Thank you so much!!
how many times did you have fuel up? what is top speed when towing? And could you give an estimate on how much the whole trip cost you? Thank you. I'm having to travel +1600 miles with my son and pets.
I believe I stopped for gas 10 or 11 times. I went around 55-65 MPH for most of the drive. Anything over 75 felt really sketchy with the trailer. It cost just over $1,500 for the one way rental of both the truck and trailer. And gas costs were just over $1,200 for the whole trip. Good luck with your move and let me know if you have any other questions!
@@GrantClouser thank you
I'm about to move from Vegas to Hampton Virginia. Any tips for the trip. Was renting the truck and trailer on the expensive side?
My best tip is to try not to get yourself in any situations where you need to reverse as it can be quite tricky. It was just over $1500 for the one way rental of both the truck and trailer. Good luck with your move and let me know if you have any more questions!
@@kettlecookedjalapenochips been here since Feb 8th. Love it so far. Neighborhood is nice and quiet. I'm probably 4 minutes from buckroe beach.
What route did you take over the Rockies ?
@@JetsMakeWoosh I was the genius who decided to go thru AZ and NM instead of going the Colorado route.....the pot holes in AZ and NM.....I should have had at least 4 blown tires. Thank goodness UHAUL put new everything on the truck and trailer before I left.
I made it! Learning how to downshift the truck was trick crawled up the mountains no snow when I went through too got lucky
I never drove a uhaul before and ill be having a 15' with a trailer with my camaro from michigan to texas. Any advice for me? Im terrified
Don't worry, it's easier than you think. Just be extra careful to make wide turns with the trailer, and to not go into any gas stations that are crowded or won't have enough room for you to turn around in, as reversing with the trailer can be a little tricky.
What did this cost you? Ill need your exact setup from uhaul from Los Angeles to Orlando, FL and I'm trying to figure out whats best to move my car too
I spent about $1200 on gas for the entire trip, and the one way uhaul + trailer rental cost me $1500.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for that Uhaul 20 ft truck and the gas you spent for the whole 2,500 miles trip? I'm asking because we are also moving from Bay Area to Tennessee that is also about 2,500 miles and also towing our car. Thanks!
It cost $1500 for the one way uhaul + trailer rental, and total cost of gas was just over $1200.
@@GrantClouser ok, thanks!
Hey Grant, I'm getting ready to make a haul with a uhaul and car trailer like you did from Missouri to Florida and I wanted to see what your experience was like driving over the mountains with that car trailer. Any sketch at all? This is going to be my first time doing this.
Its a bit sketchy going downhill, but the truck will go into a lower gear on its own which helps to slow you down a lot. On a steep uphill it will feel like you're flooring it and you'll still be going slow, just use your hazards if you're under the speedlimit.
@@GrantClouser Thanks for the reply homie. Much appreciated. Definitely glad I only have to do this once.
No problem man, good luck with the drive!
Is it hard to make turns with the car transport on the back?
Yes, it was difficult driving off highway, just have to watch your mirrors closely and take turns extra wide with the trailer.
I’m Moving from Virginia to Texas and I’m so nervous about driving this uhaul across states like this
Don't be nervous, just take it slow! It's much easier than you're anticipating
I think a one way rental would be more expensive, you can try to rent and return to the same place.
@@GrantClouser Thank you, that's what I thought , I've been trying to do the one way rent since December and the prices are insane,
